To think that at some point people will have to say that Brexit was never a good idea

We are sinking as a country and only a very few people are better off since Brexit. It seems to me like an experiment that hasn't worked. AIBU to think that it's odd that it's hardly mentioned as one of the reasons why everything is so bleak right now? Even Liz Truss thought it was a bad idea at the time.

We used to be able to live work and study in 20 something countries free.
We used to have free healthcare all over Europe.
We used to have cheap and plentiful food.
Our human rights and employment laws were protected by the checks and balances of the European Union.

Now we are just becoming little America without the style or charisma (but thankfully no guns)

Yanbu.

heatissweet · 07/09/2022 17:54

aliceinshackles there must be a fair few in this situation. I feel sorry for people who voted it and now regret it, especially if they believed there would be all this money for the NHS Sad

Why do people think it is stupid not to want your country to be part of an economic and political union? I can understand why people want to be part of such an organisation, but I genuinely can't see why not wanting that is seen as a lack of intelligence? Anyone?

Pound falls to lowest level since 1985 against the dollar:

And as for being European...

I hate to break this to leavers but you ARE European. You live on the continent of Europe 🇪🇺

heatissweet · 07/09/2022 17:55

I think the 'laws' we will end up being 'free of' is things like annual leave and sick pay and maternity rights

Ignorance and stupidity? Oh how lovely you are!

The fact it is true must really bite you. Is that the real reason you are ignoring it?

I’m up for hearing from leave voters

Just over half of voters voted for it but these threads don’t reflect that

I think people must be put off posting

The pound is falling due to inflation and quantitative easing. It has nothing to do with leaving the EU.

And of course we know we are European!

One day, you’ll thank us, and see we’ve done what’s best for this country.

Probably given age ranges though it's not going to be as many of MN-ing age

Used to work in retail, and the amount of people who complained about food price rises (before Russia and Ukraine conflict). My response was always 'don't blame me, I voted remain'.
I also believe that if other countries voted leave, it could have given more room for better terms and conditions

When's the 'one day' though?

Answer my question.

What laws are we now free from?

How are we better off?

C'mon, if you are so bold to call out remainers for only wanting easy access to the EU, do explain what we have gained by losing what we have lost.

Quite a large number of leaver voters are now dead (old age/covid)

The demographic of leave voters/voting areas was very clear;
Poor educational attainment
Over 65
In areas with little or no immigration

But if you point that out, leavers get quite shirty 🤷‍♀️

@Chevyimpala67

LOL what a load of rubbish. 😂 You can't just make stuff up to suit your agenda you know! I am actually embarrassed for you!

Also @heatissweet NO-ONE can say the results of Brexit were shit because we had a massive worldwide pandemic directly after we left, and a massive WORLDWIDE cost of living crisis, so the actual result of Brexit/the aftermath has been massively skewed.

I know it suits the remainers to say it's a shit show, but the truth is, there has barely been any affect from it. The only shit that has happened/is happening, is because of WORLDWIDE issues, and is fuck-all to do with Brexit.

I don't regret voting to leave by the way, and don't know anyone else who does. I am sure you - and the other remainers know THOUSANDS of people who do though. YAWN... 🙄

Oh and despite the laughable comments from some about brexit supporters being thick/badly educated, most people I know who voted for brexit are very intelligent, well educated, successful people - myself included. Also, many of them are WAY younger than 65, and DO live in areas with a sizeable sum of ethnic minorities. I also know some people who are in an ethnic minority group who voted for brexit too. I know, shocking right?! Shock

The bitterness and anger from SOME remainers is NEVER going away is it? Wink
I know it really sucks being a LOSER. Time to get over it though kids. The constant angry, bitter attitude, and all the vitriol spouted by the sore remainers is really not healthy, and some people are looking very VERY silly.

When's the 'one day' though?

When you’re mature enough to understand. That’s a personal thing.

MonkNun · 07/09/2022 18:00

At some point? I think it’s already been said.

midgetastic · 07/09/2022 18:02

Compared to our peers we have been hit hardest by all the international crisis

Probably because of brexit but hey ho once we are all dead things might be better but no one really knows what else might go wrong in the meantime either

However being in research I can say that it's damaged science research significantly and lead to fewer good jobs

heatissweet · 07/09/2022 18:03

When you’re mature enough to understand. That’s a personal thing.

So we can only see these magical benefits by being mature! Okaaay

Also @heatissweet NO-ONE can say the results of Brexit were shit because we had a massive worldwide pandemic directly after we left, and a massive WORLDWIDE cost of living crisis, so the actual result of Brexit/the aftermath has been massively skewed

It's an added factor towards making things shit. I do 100 percent think that so far at least the results of Brexit have been shit, and there's no evidence that any good will come of it.

Because the values of the EU aligned with our better interests as citizens. The main reason the elites wanted us to leave is so they could have more control over its citizenry, not less.

Give over now.

They have nothing.

Thread after thread after fucking thread and it becomes pitiful.

Please point me in the direction of where Brexit benefits the UK.

I am desperate to find hope.

When you first meet up with French people here in France, after finding out your name it is the first thing they ask you. For Brexit or against? They judge you on how you voted. And probably always will.

LO, no they don't. Seriously!!! 😂 The French don't give a shit that the Brits left the EU.

Sigh.

As a historian I find comments like this so depressing.

Do a tiny amount of research and look at how the UK was in the 1970s.

I lived it and it was grim. It was Thatcher who ruined UK manufacturing and business (at least any businesses that she and her ilk weren't on the Board of...)

We were called "the sick man of europe" with very, very good reason.

We are there again.

The largest trading bloc in the world is only a few miles from our southern shores. Huge buying power and bargaining power as evidenced by things like free roaming charges for EU residents.

We only produce 40% of the food we need.

But don't worry! We have a great deal with Australia that will leave our own farmers worse off.

How utterly, utterly ironic that our own Royal family - so lauded by brexshitters - are Greek/German.

How interesting that the ruling elite of the UK (the nobility and those that go to Eton, Harrow, oxbrodge, and then into politics...) are still the same names that came over with the Conqueror.

Study the past to understand the future.
There is nothing new under the sun, although I'd hoped I wouldn't see War in Europe in my lifetime.

feedyourheed · 07/09/2022 18:06

See on this thread someone called me ignorant and stupid. In retaliation I said they weren't very nice (in other words but not very offensive compared to the original ).
