Time for the Queen to abdicate?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 06/09/2022 14:08

If the first day of our new 'Prime Minister' is spent having to do a 1,000 mile round trip to Balmoral and back, rather than sorting out immediate problems, then is it time for the Queen to abdicate and let Charles take over?

Most jobs aren't hacking away at the coal face' though, are they? Many are not physically demanding at all, but they're still real.

but most of us don't get gushing praise for sitting at our desks for 8 hours a day. Or teaching kids, or cooking, or emptying bins etc. But gushing about someone opening things, signing things, and whatever it is the Queen does? pathetic.
Yes she's Queen. She has a lovely life, and it's been lovely and long. She is slowing down, which is great for her, but really, the fawning and gushing is just not needed.

The Queen will be Queen until she dies

Long may she live

Do you know anyone else who is still working in their 90s ?

I think she looks remarkable for her age.

A life of privilege has enabled her to look good for her age. It is still clear that she has not got long left.

You do if you're 96 or so - people who are still working, or rattling a collection tin, get press attention.

As do those who are simply alive a decade or so older

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 11:41

By this stage her work is simply short meetings. It will be no more taxing than your very elderly grandparent having a new visitor pop in.

What's a "1000 mile round trip and back"?

Confused

justagirlstandinginfrontofcake · 08/09/2022 11:43

Yes, Queenie and her health is the problem, not the revolving door that is the PM position in this country

@sparepantsandtoothbrush

I actually said

a 1,000 mile round trip to Balmoral and back

Forgive me for not including the extra 32 miles.

Pedantic, much?

You are totally missing the point OP!! WinkWink

What a horrible thing to say. None of us knows that - about ourselves or anyone else.

She does...for her age. She is 96 years old.

She looks fine. I wonder how you and the rest of the prophets of doom look like right now, far less when you are elderly. 😆

Three trips?

greenhousegal · 08/09/2022 12:19

I think she'd like Charles to "pre abdicate" lol. Then she'd be fine for another few years. The relief!

I do not look like in am 96 years old. Just as well as I am in my fifties.
I will not look as good as her at 96 if I live that long as I will not receive the best private healthcare avaialble.

I don't think she would - she'd see it as a dereliction of duty on Charles's behalf. The speech she made to mark her jubilee last February made it very clear she endorses King Charles and Queen Camilla taking their place when the time comes.

My mum looked exactly like that at 96, the pictures this week hit me hard because the resemblance is so strong. She didn’t have a minute of private healthcare. It’s all in the genes.

I agree with this. Sick of over privileged folk preaching about how we should live our lives.

You mean like the Conservatives do..?

LampLighter414 · 08/09/2022 12:39

The speaker in House of Commons just announced doctors have said her condition is poor

PaddleBoardingMomma · 08/09/2022 12:40

Yes BBC have just announced she’s under medical supervision as doctors are concerned

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 12:42

It doesn't sound that promising for the Queen does it? She is 96, but it's still sad when you see people looking so frail and can't walk.

SleeplessInEngland · 08/09/2022 12:42

Not sure why Truss and Starmer had to leave parliament for this, unless they know something we don't. Is it a matter of hours?

She looks fine? have you compared her now to 12 months ago? Did you see the bruising on her hand? Oh and she is now 'under medical supervision' at Balmoral. I assumed she wouldn't make Christmas but it's not looking like she'll be around as long as that.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 12:46

My dad was 98 when he died from covid and he was walking around a week before hand.
It is weird that the two leaders had to leave like that , but then we haven't had this situation before in most people's lifetimes , so maybe it's just a protocol thing.
Could be a state funeral soon then and a coronation next year maybe?
I hope they have some money set aside for it!

CaveMum · 08/09/2022 12:48

“Comfortable” is a very deliberate choice of words.

They’re generally very vague about health issues pertaining to any member of the Royal Family, so to put out a statement in this way suggests it’s significant.

Antarcticant · 08/09/2022 12:48

Yes, breaking news on the BBC so it must be serious.

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 12:48

If they are saying officially Drs are concerned, then it does not look good.
