Was just after some moral support am on holiday with my daughter in a shit all inclusive in turkey horrible place and horrible hotel. We are here until Monday 😭honestly been in tears and just want to come home. Any words of wisdom to keep us going. They want £650 for an earlier flight home that I just can’t afford.

I find it hard to believe the hotel staff don't speak English. You may have to point and show them, or explain yourself a bit but they will understand things like a complaint that the room isn't clean or if you show them uncooked food, so either you are not explaining yourself well, or they are not helping you.

Your options are either to complain hard today to ask to be moved hotel/suck it up and take trips out and just sleep and breakfast at the hotel/hire a car and go on an adventure, you have another 6 days until your flight just go and see some of the country for a few days and stay in little bnbs. You may enjoy it more than hanging around a big hotel.

Hi OP. have you actually READ and UNDERSTOOD very good advice given by a couple of PPs who actually work for tour operators? Have you taken in good advice by other travellers about how to make your trip better? I have read the whole thread and I get the feeling that 6 pages on, it is an utter waste of time for everyone.
So good luck with your email and sitting in a corner with a woe is me look. Or take the bull by the horns and actively make your lot better.

MintyGreenDreams · 06/09/2022 10:22

We know loads of people that go to Antalya and have loved it.It definitely sounds like it's the hotel that's the problem.

balalake · 06/09/2022 10:25

Sorry to read of your experience. I don't have any constructive suggestions unfortunately.

As for Turkish men, maybe the good ones stay in Turkey, the bad ones come and live in the UK.

Turkey has well-documented problems with misogynistic behaviour including femicide and high rates of domestic abuse within the country. It comes from the top and is state-sanctioned.

@JubileeTissues with regards to my comment about a lot of Disneystyle hotels and all inclusives. I'm not saying that's all there is, and I totally accept many people love them , what I am trying to say is that if OP is in something similar it may just not be her kind of thing and it's easy for it to be more boisterous than you expect depending on what parties are staying there. I know when I've looked online before places like Turkey and Playa in Tenerife did seem to have more than an odd one. Personally I enjoyed Turkey a lot- but holidays are a really individual thing- I for one can give as good as I get if I get any hassle.

Im wondering if OP is somewhere big scale like this? Although this looks a very nice palatial version maybe!

Ilovemycatalot · 05/09/2022 18:43

@honkeytonkwoman38 yes booking turkey was a mistake.

Booking Turkey is not a mistake, booking a shite hotel is. I’ve been to Turkey many times and have a wonderful time. Did you go as cheap as possible ? You usually get what you pay for.

Linnette49 · 06/09/2022 18:13

So sorry to hear this. Unless you book the ‘English’ side of Turkey, you risk horrible hotels, horrible food and leery men. We suffered this some years ago. Booked thru Booking.com and thought this would be ok. We ended up in the ‘Russian’ side at a hotel being ‘renovated’. It was awful. It was full board but after the first day we only had breakfast there. The food was disgusting. It was actually a Russian lady who asked us why were we there and told us that we wouldn’t get a decent hotel there. The beddings were never changed or the rooms cleaned. Rooms were in desperate need of renovation and the beds were old and unsafe. Swimming pool dirty and unsafe. Waiters were seen drinking out of bottles of pop and alcohol and not using glasses. Booking.com refused to help. They believed the hotel even though we sent photos of everything we claimed. We made the most of it by going on excursions although of course that cost us more money. Have been to Turkey before and everything was ok but we certainly got caught on this one.

LovelyLisa2 · 06/09/2022 18:22

You’ll be fine. I always take mine on my own and have never had an issue. X

Jack80 · 06/09/2022 18:39

I would call your travel company and complain if no rep.

JubileeTissues · 06/09/2022 18:43

@Crikeyalmighty they might look similar online but there's nothing on the scale of the Turkish resorts and hotels. Even in Playa de las Americas.

I think the photos must be deceiving. Not sure how I got dragged into someone's rant about racism and all inclusives though Grin

Blue03 · 06/09/2022 18:47

Look on the bright side. You’ve not mentioned being ill. I was ever so poorly in Egypt a few years ago. The rep patronisingly told us “it’s 5 but it’s a 5 in Egypt, what do you expect?” I didn’t expect to feel like death.

Just trying to help you feel a tiny bit better about your situation. It’ll all be in the past soon enough 💐

Blue03 · 06/09/2022 18:49

Prev should have had “*” ie stars, I didn’t meant to put the wording in bold. Oops. 5 star hotel 🙄

patch6153 · 06/09/2022 19:00

are you at eftalia village at all

Lullab · 06/09/2022 19:03

First thing to do is find your hotel rep and see if you can be moved. I'm not sure what you can do about the food. Is it that you don't like Turkish food or is the food really disgusting? I found lots of salads, dips, kebabs and breads when I was there and the little pastries were delicious!
It may be that your expectations of Turkey are a little different from reality. Try and pal up with some other guests and stay in groups that will make you feel less vulnerable.

So sorry. It's awful when a holiday is horrific. You don't have too much longer to go and hopefully the travel company can help you before you get home. Definitely keep records of the awfulness so that you can make a formal complaint once home and hopefully compensation will result. Please spend as much time away from the hotel as you can. It really isn't great here in the UK - lots of rain, storms and a new prime minister so try to focus on finding a little happiness in the sunshine before returning.

PonyPatter44 · 06/09/2022 19:10

Don't think the OP is coming back, somehow....

JubileeTissues · 06/09/2022 19:11

"It really isn't great here in the UK - lots of rain, storms and a new prime minister"

You trying to cheer her up? 😂

Kentucky83 · 06/09/2022 19:20

My advice there would be to spend as much time away from the hotel as you can and try and stay near families. If there any other English speaking people in the resort, try and strike up a conversation. They may feel the same and safety in numbers is good. Good luck!

Jaxinthebox · 06/09/2022 19:22

the fact the OP won't even say what hotel she is in speaks volumes. I see someone said about Antalya - lovely area, depending on where you are, same as every city.

Turkey is lovely, has its issues - but usually it is geared up for English, German, Russian and Turkish tourism. And the staff can speak each language...

as for paying extra, not sure how that happens, the word NO works wonders!

Notmrsfitz · 06/09/2022 19:22

When we went to Antalya it was a bit of a shock but - you’re there it’s all
An experience, you can just button up your cardigan and ignore them - go on the bus and go up to cleopatras beach I think it’s called….. practice some self care and relax and enjoy the sun and just isolate yourself and chill out

What occurs to me is many young who message MN lack assertiveness.
A tip I was given to deter unwanted attention is to hold up your palm ✋
with fingers closed with angry face.
Turkish men and other nationalities try it on with Brits because we are believed to have loose morals. They don’t try it on with Turkish females or other nationalities

Ifrozethehoumous · 06/09/2022 19:36

I feel really sorry and understand how awful it is when a holiday doesn’t match up. You might ‘settle in’ after a couple of days but unless you can curtail it through illness, just try to be gentle on yourself and pass the time as best you can. A week will go quite quickly and anyway it’ll soon be Wednesday! Take care.

Breezyy · 06/09/2022 19:37

@Isinglass20 have to agree with this. Went on holiday with a friend who is british and very much offered herself on a plate. One of the workers ended up coming to her room at night. And then she made another british friend there who did the same.
