To still live my best life even though I’m fat

Whatyagonnadokatie · 03/09/2022 22:26

Many mnetters hate fat people. They dress it up as concern for health. But I think it’s something deeper than that. Something about us letting ourselves lose self discipline or something. Some people even seem to think that we shouldn’t have nice clothes (let me tell you, no one purposely gains weight to wear some lovely plus size clothes).

reading some threads on here break my heart when women dread going to social events because they are fat.

aibu to say, fuck that, get on with your life and be happy even if you are fat. Wear the nice clothes, go to all the social events. And hey, eat the biscuit if you really want to

I’m more baffled by @forgotoldusername ’s financial situation that she is the MD of a bank and yet doesn’t earn enough to regard herself as “wealthy”!

I actually read that as 'bank manager'. Ooops!

Doingprettywellthanks · 06/09/2022 18:31

Perhaps @forgotoldusername meant bank manager rather than MD??

forgotoldusername · 06/09/2022 18:33

I mean MD and bonuses are not what they used to be. My IB has messed up in some things so we got lots of shares whose value has decreased substantially

MD of a bank?? You wouldn’t On less than £150k basic

forgotoldusername · 06/09/2022 18:36

@Doingprettywellthanks that doesn't take you far if you factor in private schools, mortgages and the various trips. And the cash portion of the bonus is not big these days, most is in shares

Doingprettywellthanks · 06/09/2022 18:37

In fact underestimate.
my ex is head of HR at a bank and on £170k

Doingprettywellthanks · 06/09/2022 18:38

You’re spending your wealth
Does not mean you’re not wealthy

forgotoldusername · 06/09/2022 18:39

@Doingprettywellthanks correct it's £175k I didn't want to say it, people lifestyle are very different. And some people might think it's unfair or all that. Thing is I worked bloody hard to get my very very advanced degree. And life hasn't been easy in other aspects so it's swings and roundabouts

I don’t give a hoot whether you’ve worked hard or not

but if md on same as head of hr at a bank… you need a pay rise?

and do you see the distinction between not being wealthy and… spending your wealth?

Congratulations. A high achieving woman is to be admired and celebrated, even if not always on MN.

forgotoldusername · 06/09/2022 19:01

@Doingprettywellthanks and remember school fees are £33k a year including some random 1k "voluntary "" donation that they add on to the bill and I don't feel I can challenge. Multiply that by the number of children and there you see where all the money goes

KimberleyClark · 06/09/2022 19:17

This thread has taken a strange turn.

You said you aren’t wealthy.

The fact you don’t have substantial money left over after paying school fees, holidays and mortgage etc does not mean you’re not wealthy. You are spending your wealth. There’s a crucial difference there!

And of course you should challenge the £1k . My children attend private school and never in a month of Sunday would this be added on without consultation and if it was…. I wouldn’t hesitate to say…. Please remove.

Doingprettywellthanks · 06/09/2022 19:20

And if you’re being paid £175 as MD bank you are being wholly underpaid compared with your colleagues. Ask you should be on upwards of £225k

If I could kindly direct you to the person who originally said it bashing skinny Minnie's, that would be great...

Tell her to rethink it. Ta.

@dottiedodah
And the added advantage of not feeling the cold like the skinny Minnie's.how much warmer we will be!

I'm hot all the time, when I was fat I thought losing weight would help. It didn't. 11 stone down and still baking all the fucking time

forgotoldusername · 06/09/2022 19:30

@Doingprettywellthanks that doesn't matter now. This thread has derailed. I was just saying that I prefer to have some money and be slim to having lots and lots and lots of money and being fat. Personal preference and I exercise a lot to achieve that (and watch what I eat, normally big dinners when I go out but otherwise I really try to eat little). And that's that !

Doingprettywellthanks · 06/09/2022 19:34

While you are nothing like me (I’m a wee fattie and also not wealthy). I can see your point of view..

my point of view is that I’m already fat. It is what it is, and I’m still going to enjoy life and not hide away regardless

tillytoodles1 · 06/09/2022 20:34

I'm size 18/20. Some of my friends think being a size 12 is fat, but that's fine, it's their choice and never comment on my size or choice of clothes unless it's to say the they like what I'm wearing and I look nice.

What’s sad? I love exercise and I love eating proper food. Why would I be sad?

Many people are a size 12 and fat. It depends on height, frame and where you carry the fat for a lot of people.
