To not want neighbours touching my parcels

AIBU to not want neighbours touching my parcels.

I live in a big converted town house. There is a flat on each floor. I live on the second floor.

My neighbour who lives in the attic (5th floor) always seems to touch my parcels.

All post is delivered by the main entrance way on the ground floor. When he walks past to collect his parcels, he picks up any other ones that belong to other flats, and drops them off outside their front doors on the way up to his.

Yes different threads get totally different responses - it’s absolutely not okay for someone who you don’t know who lives in a totally separate building to run out and intercept a courier and stop them delivering to my address when I’m sat there waiting for a parcel.

Obviously all parcels are handled by a multitude of people you don’t know and will never meet, and the actual courier whose job it is to deliver the parcel (& who I imagine has a variety of “interesting” deliveries every day). That doesn’t mean you automatically want an acquaintance to get involved as well!

It is illegal for a reason so I’m not going to suddenly think “that’s okay then” when it’s causing loads of issues eg if he’s not in my parcels have been delivered to random shops as they are so used to him taking all the parcels that I get sent a picture of his empty driveway to prove no one is there, when I’m wfh and fully able to receive all parcels myself.

It’s the fact when you ask someone to stop as it’s unnecessary and causing issues, and they don’t stop but keep doing it like a power trip (in my case he still did it but would sneak them outside my door until I spoke to the courier and he told me that “the man” was requesting all my parcels ongoing so they’d never even attempt to knock my door as he already took them) - that’s when they become an unreasonable actor in the situation as it’s just disrespect and ignoring a basic request to not intercept mail.

And parcels were being handed over to me half ripped open so it’s ceases to be altruistic when it’s not wanted or needed and instead is all about them keeping their role as some kind of parcel disseminator. I actually love getting deliveries from courier as they’re like Father Christmas and no one else needs to be involved by default.

What a bastard he is

What a selfish man to put peoples parcels 📦 outside their doors!

Hawkins001 · 31/08/2022 15:35

It's a nice gesture and even if the parcels are from mi5/6 they are still wrapped etc

JustSortYoursefOut · 31/08/2022 15:37

Good grief how dare he be a great and thoughtful neighbour - at least in this respect? what a debbie downer you are.

purplecorkheart · 31/08/2022 15:51

I wonder does she not realise that her parcels are handled by multiple people before they are delivered.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 31/08/2022 15:52

@Meraas I'm always late to any party!😄

Starpeople · 31/08/2022 15:53

He sounds lovely and it is so kind of him to help out others. I wish my neighbours were like that, they huff and puff if have the take in their own parcel 😂let alone drop somebody else's off!

Starpeople · 31/08/2022 15:54

Cruisebabe1 · 31/08/2022 15:57

Marvellousmadness · 31/08/2022 15:57

So the whole vote thing says 99% yabu
And all of a sudden op says :its a reverse

Yeah. Sure..
😅

ddl1 · 31/08/2022 15:58

YABU- surely it's helpful rather than the reverse if he brings your parcels to the door? And it prevents the entrance from getting all clogged up with people's parcels.

Is this a hangover from the time when people thought that Covid was mainly spread by touch, and 'quarantined' their post?

Some people are the bossy self-appointed prefects of the world. It is a tad annoying, but if it's not over stepping, then meh.

economicervix · 31/08/2022 17:16

Reverse threads are pointless, you’re just scamming people in to massaging your ego.

Butchyrestingface · 31/08/2022 18:51

Estemonponche · 31/08/2022 14:16

Yes, this was a reverse. Glad being kind is not considered strange by 99% of the public.

I've changed my vote and my allegiance. Totally on your neighbour's side now. Leave their deliveries alone, you reversing twat.
