To not want neighbours touching my parcels

Estemonponche · 31/08/2022 12:01

AIBU to not want neighbours touching my parcels.

I live in a big converted town house. There is a flat on each floor. I live on the second floor.

My neighbour who lives in the attic (5th floor) always seems to touch my parcels.

All post is delivered by the main entrance way on the ground floor. When he walks past to collect his parcels, he picks up any other ones that belong to other flats, and drops them off outside their front doors on the way up to his.

What an absolute wanker! Lodge an official complaint with the police and the building management! How dare he! Some people really are CFs!!! 😆

He sounds lovely. You sound like a knob.

Same in my building... Top floor thinks they own the whole place, kind of. I find it absolutely annoying BUT I'm super glad they bother taking care of my parcels when I'm not home! So there's a silver lining to the otherwise very annoying situation!

DancingBudgie · 31/08/2022 13:33

Is it still the school holidays?

Rainbowdrops2021 · 31/08/2022 13:33

Argh please don’t ask him to stop and crush another persons kind spirit just because you’ve decided to be a butt head and take issue with it. There won’t be anyone willing to do nice things soon for fear of offending people.

Call Women's Aid
Log it with 111
Get a friend to stay over
Install CCTV
Insist he wears a hazmat suit
Speak to HR

or
Just say 'thanks'.

Well D'uh!!!! You forgot

Put out some naice ham and Pom bears for the bloke
Cancel the cheque
Punch a lemon drizzle cake

but most importantly....if you're going to snap like this....you simply must fart!

Unless there's a massive dripfeed that parcels have gone missing because he has repeatedly put them at the wrong flat and caused a logistical nightmare for everyone trying to find the correct parcels as they were shown as delivered but nowhere to be found then YABVU

What difference does it make whether your parcel is in the communal entrance hall or outside your door? Surely it's safer to leave parcel out of the way at your flat door than in your communal hallway where anyone could see/take it?

I used to live in a block of 4 flats, one on each floor where the entrance door opened directly on to stairs and then my flat was the first one at the top of the stairs. If a parcel didn't fit in a residents post box then posties would often either leave it blocking the stairs or leave it near my front door. One of the neighbours would often leave the door on the latch a massively unreasonable behaviour for another thread so yhe door wasnt secure. This meant anyone could walk in off the street and could see/take those parcels. If I came home and there were parcels for the neighbours at the very least I would move them to the second staircase, if not take them to the actual flat (depending on how heavy/unweildy they were), so they were not blocking the entrance door, my door or the stairs and were also out of sight (my door was visible from the entrance but the stairs up to the next floor were round a corner so not visible) so slightly safer.

I think Bullshire Police might be interested.
You will find them over on Facebook…

What an awful neighbour you have, if only he knew trying to help and be nice is so wrong.

I've seen quite a few Aibu threads which went 100% in one direction.

NotQuiteHere · 31/08/2022 13:49

I personally would not probably mind, but I understand that some people might not like it. Before you decide to do someone a favour, think if they would want it.

If you don't like it, you don't need a reason, and I can name a few: your parcel going through extra hands unnecessarily, you don't like the neighbour, you don't want to feel like you should be grateful, the neighbour is just nosey pretending to be helpful etc.

adhdforme · 31/08/2022 13:51

@Estemonponche (OP) come back and explain yourself. Why is this such a problem?

Send some heavies round. That will learn him.

Helpyou · 31/08/2022 13:52

That is such a lovely thing for your neighbour to do. Why would you object to this. Strange.

Choconut · 31/08/2022 13:52

Stop being mean to the OP, she may be concerned that he might have cooties.

Justcallmebebes · 31/08/2022 13:53

You need to call the police, log it with 111 as a back up and then move

Does he lick them on the way up?
or
Knock on your door wearing only a grin and your package to cover his modesty?
etc...

Otherwise I just cant see why someone doing you a favor would make you mad but surely if he was doing something else creepy then you would lead with that.

MarsupiIami · 31/08/2022 13:55

That’s really kind of him. Just wash your hands after you open them?

economicervix · 31/08/2022 13:56

Why are people quoting multiple paragraphs? You know you don’t need to do that?

ThinkingForEveryone · 31/08/2022 13:56

What a shocker, the OP has disappeared 🙄
I worry about us as a society if this has become such a problem OP has posted about it on mumsnet.
Either OP is unnecessarily worried about covid (the parcel will have been handled by plenty of people before Nice Neighbour touches it) or she's just a complete loon.

Unfortunately though none of them really stack up as the parcel will already have been through a lot of hands at the depot/delivery driver, there's nothing to suggest she doesn't like the neighbour or that they've done anything wrong, no one is asking her to feel grateful and if the neighbour was just being nosey they could just have examined all the parcels and left them at the main entrance.

Batshit crazy, honestly it's the only explanation.
