We Must Endure High Bills. Proud

AIBU to be proud of Boris Johnstone-in this matter-when said, while visiting Ukraine on their Independence Day, that we must endure high bills as remember that Ukraine are paying in blood.

I was worried about the soaring cost of bills-power/food but this made me stop and pause.

Aibu to think that we should all write down what he said and put it on the fridge to remind ourselves that it will be worth it. We're doing it for Ukraine and it is worse for them.

I agree, and propose to start up a gofundme to buy him and cazzers some new wallpaper. He's a hard-working committed individual who has lead this country with dignity.

How are we helping Ukraine, by having people have to choose between eating and heating their homes? Genuinely, how is this helping Ukraine @MissHavershamJoinsTinder ?

AllFreeOwls · 26/08/2022 08:06

Agree that the energy companies should be taking most of the burden in their enormous profits. Not the public
Absolutely this. The energy companies are announcing record profits whilst people are struggling. That isn't making me proud.

Only here for the deletion message

Giveronyoursausage · 26/08/2022 08:06

Are you on glue Carrie?

stravagante · 26/08/2022 08:08

Anyone who claims they're proud of "Boris" is either his doting, demented mother or has so tenuous a grasp on reality as to make their points entirely redundant.

MissHavershamJoinsTinder · 26/08/2022 08:09

@SleeplessInEngland

What faux outrage!

It's a bit much to be called a pisstaker for something that was all over the news and a bit much to be called a pisstaker for agreeing with him.

The fact is war in Ukraine is shooting up the prices. Do we think it's worth it?Boris does and so do I. Most of the press seemed to agree with him too.

If you don't, fine. I was asking for opinions on AIBU after all-I was expecting a mixture of opinions-but not people laughing because they think it's a pisstake when, @SleeplessInEngland -you can look it up for yourself. It's not difficult.

Anyway, 16% agree. Bit low but that might change

@Giveronyoursausage 🤣

Omg though- batshit thread of the year though. I might write what Boris said on my fridge though to remind me, in the unlikely event that I forget at the next election, what an absolute c**t he is 😬

Ah yes, I love being told by wealthy, Eton educated politicians how we must all do our bit to help Ukraine by feathering the already extremely fucking well-feathered nests of the energy companies. So much to be "proud" of.

Because no-one will buy power from Russia in order to support Ukraine.
This means that there is less power to go around so prices rise.

That's how it helps Ukraine who are-you might have noticed-fighting Russia and paying in blood.

So proud to be struggling financially, worried about day to day costs, whilst energy producers laugh all the way to the banks.

Oh yes, stiff upper lip, and revelling in British pride about this...!

henni85 · 26/08/2022 08:13

No, it doesn’t make me proud or bring me comfort. People in this country will probably be paying in blood when they can’t afford to heat their homes, or eat. Especially those who are disabled and have higher than average energy bills and lower than average incomes. Meanwhile, the energy companies rake in record profits, and the poorest get cost of living payments that are a drop in the ocean.

Zebedee55 · 26/08/2022 08:15

He did say it, just before giving them another £54 million for arms.:

www.lbc.co.uk/news/boris-johnson-makes-final-visit-to-kyiv-before-leaving-no10/

Perhaps someone should have asked us if we wanted to put up with it, in support of Ukraine.🙄

ReeseWitherfork · 26/08/2022 08:15

It’s not that people don’t believe what BJ has said, it’s that pride is such an inappropriate response. Why would you feel proud?! You’re not bank rolling some innovative initiative which stops Ukrainian people suffering. Anyone who claims to take pride from this either has to be a troll or is a tad confused.

But I’ve taken your advice, my fridge now says: “Live. Laugh. Love. Don’t worry about high energy prices as long as you’re not being bombed.”

ThreeLocusts · 26/08/2022 08:15

Well I'd like to see energy company bosses endure some loss in profits and bonuses. How about that for a change?

ShelfyMcShelfface · 26/08/2022 08:16

Mountainatmygates · 26/08/2022 07:52

What the actual fuck?

funny how BlowJo isn’t asking the energy companies to take a hit on their profits for Ukraine 🙄

This.

Just the little people.

GuyFawkesDay · 26/08/2022 08:17

i haven't dream read this
Dear God, is this what we are reduced to?

I am hugely sympathetic towards Ukraine. However, the energy firms are taking it in, making immorally high profits on the back of the suffering of their own customers.

That is unacceptable by anyone's standards. Well anyone except out government it seems, who hand wrong, pass the buck and do nothing.

Shameful.

The reason we have high prices is because insufficient investment was given to making alternative sources of energy efficient and workable. Germany relied, stupidly on Russian gas. Covid lockdowns pushed up demand when they finished. It’s not Ukraine it’s lack of EU and U.K. planning and a total lack of understanding of Putins game plan. I’m pro Europe but on this they got it really wrong.

MarshaBradyo · 26/08/2022 08:19

I wouldn't object to that either but it doesn't cancel out agreeing with Boris and 'yes' feeling proud that as a country, we will endure to help another country find freedom.

Or do we just support Ukraine as long as it doesn't hit us in our pockets? You know, wave a flag or something!

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 26/08/2022 08:21

We'll be paying in blood when brits die from the cold and starvation this winter. I'd rather send my money straight to Ukraine than to line the pockets of energy companies for the sake of a war
