We Must Endure High Bills. Proud

AIBU to be proud of Boris Johnstone-in this matter-when said, while visiting Ukraine on their Independence Day, that we must endure high bills as remember that Ukraine are paying in blood.

I was worried about the soaring cost of bills-power/food but this made me stop and pause.

Aibu to think that we should all write down what he said and put it on the fridge to remind ourselves that it will be worth it. We're doing it for Ukraine and it is worse for them.

hashtag. Proud to Pay for Ukraine

I am proud that, as a country, we are prepared to endure hardship, in order to help Ukraine win a war against Russia.

The point is that our enduring hardship is, in the first instance, primarily helping suppliers make fatter profits. Take that element out and there might be more buy-in to your stance, OP.

although I have appreciated the points about France's cap.

You keep saying this, OP, but you don't address it. Given that France has managed to keep its cap so much lower, why can't our government? And, as they haven't, why should we listen to the useless head of the government when he suggests we should just put up with their incompetence and be proud of the results.

I doubt very much people who are struggling because of the hardship will feel a sense of pride when they look at their children who are cold and hungry.
They will feel fear and despair as they are unable to provide for them.
Watching your family family suffer and feeling helpless will put a huge strain on any parents mental health and drive them into the darkest place imaginable!
The fact that idiot even said such a thing shows how totally disconnected from ordinary people he is. Im sure hes very proud considering he won't have to worry if his children will have full stomachs or are shaking from cold!

This.

Watching people you love, particularly your children, suffer is horrible - much worse than experiencing hardship and suffering yourself.

Parents, especially mothers, are already going without food so that their children can eat. Soon they'll be having to steal to feed them (and they will - I know I would!). The govt is making peaceful protest more and more difficult. When peaceful protest is stopped, then the only recourse people have is violent protest, and it will come.

How does paying high bills help Ukrainians on the ground exactly?

“Because not buying from Russia means Russia has less money to pay for a long war.

I know we don't buy directly from Russia but other countries do, so less to go around which means higher bills.

That's the thought behind what Boris said and it's a thought I agree with.

That said, energy companies should also be doing something but you can agree with both. It's doesn't have to be one or the other.”

so what do you make of the report on radio 4 news today that Russia is currently burning off $10 million per day of its oil reserves?
It (Putin) would rather do that than sell it to “the West”.
In that context, why do you think despot Putin gives a damn whether Russia sells its oil or not?

Seeing all that fuel being burnt in Russia on the news today is just criminal.

Alexandra2001 · 26/08/2022 22:00

Its also extremely harmful to the environment, the soot from this burn will land on artic ice, leading to more ice melt.

Its been going on for 2 months.

This has made me extremely angry.

And puzzled. What the hell is he DOING? Why does he want Europe to hate him so much? So he can claim victimhood status? Russia has always only been interested in Russia but this is another level. Is he "simply" mentally ill?

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2022 22:17

Putin is clearly mentally unstable.
Why can't they store the fuel for their own people ? Their homes must need supplies too

Thedogscollar · 26/08/2022 22:40

@MissHavershamJoinsTinder
Yabu to be proud of Boris Johnson (correct spelling) for anything he says or does!!

Yabu to type hashtag. Infact you are just unreasonable for thinking this.

Being proud of knowing the deprivation, starvation and deaths this will cause is quite depraved imo.

Political posturing. Putin very clearly doesn’t care about Russian people, either. It’s a great big up yours to “the west”, regardless of the consequences.
The man’s clearly insane.

Or behaving with evil

I think there is always debate about whether evil means mentally unstable.
fwiw, I dont think it necessarily does.

I may have said here, or elsewhere, it is my opinion, that even if the war stopped, put in could still carry on doing the same thing.

So when this lady or Boris stay, carry on suffering for Ukraine, by enduring high bills, she would still be wide of the mark.
