DH went back to college & studied a field related to his career... He recieved a job in his new field but the salary is 100 quid less per week that we can't afford!! He says that the salary will increase & also that he will have greater earning potential I the future... Aibu to feel uneasy about this? It feels risky.. His old salary was 80k per year & I am a sahm as I don't want to pay a fortune in childcare & we have no family support...

He earned 80k and is now taking £400 leas a month. So around £4800 a year. Still a wage of around 75k. And you can't manage on this?!

If you're massively concerned about this pay cut I'd suggest going back to work yourself OP to help out

@polka6 There's a great deal of truth to that. All the men and women I know who earn in that bracket are in relationships with people cut from a similar cloth. I wonder where the men who are happily willing to carry a partner through life are. Unless of course these decisions are made when they have a child and decide they can take the financial hit but it's pretty rare especially among high earning partnerships.

A really easy way to earn money would be to offer babysitting services. If you know your husband's shifts a little in advance this could work quite nicely for you, a lot of people would prefer an adult babysitter than a not far off child one, you have experience of looking after children (your own) and wouldn't involve any child care costs for you, so months you could pick up more than other months. new years eve you could easily cover your shortfall for 2 months in just one night.

At work the only men I can think of who have SAHW rather than wives with equivalent professional jobs have wives with long term health issues. They are noticably less well off than the couples where both work.

Is this a stealth brag? He earns £80k not 30k
Get a smaller car and save on the petrol
