Neighbours Dog

I'v name changed for this. But am at the end of my tether and need advice. I recently bought a flat, its lovely and I'm really happy with it, but my neighbour has an absolutely huge dog and I'm allergic. She insists on taking it out for a walk three times a day through the communal hallway and I find it quite intimidating and it is making me sneeze.

I wasnt told about the dog when I bought the flat, and it doesnt make any noise. Apparently she has permission for it and permission can only be removed if it is making a noise or fouling - but not for any other nuisance. What can I do?

You’re going to ask your neighbour to hoover daily rather than try the myriad antihistamine options available? YABU.

dawngreen · 27/08/2022 18:31

I think your dog phobia is the real issue here not a allergy. You need to sell up, and move to a flat that don't allow dogs.

You always ask if dogs and/or other pets are allowed before you buy a place.

Soubriquet · 27/08/2022 19:32

It’s made the news! And all the opinions are the same as ours.

You’re a bit much OP. And a bit of a knob.

I’m sorry you can’t see that it is really your problem, and I’m sorry because you’re going to be isolated over this when you might have been able to make new friends. I certainly wouldn’t take any notice of a neighbour who told me I MUST hoover once a day, because it’s none of your business. Take ownership of the problem and you might just be a happier person because of it. .

Oo you’re famous. Can I have an autograph? Grin

Battyfumworts · 27/08/2022 20:04

Bordesleyhills · 25/08/2022 13:32

It could be an assistant dog

Seeing as OP’s entitlement knows no bounds, It wouldn’t surprise me if it is. The 3 walks a day are probably just her poor neighbour trying to do normal things like going to and from the shops/work/meeting friends. Probably offended about seeing a disabled person out in public

Well, my husband was impressed 😂

Treaclepud13 · 27/08/2022 20:39

The fact that you’ve changed your user name to post this says you already know you’re in the wrong! You’re being completely unreasonable, the dog is well cared for and well behaved- if you don’t like it then it’s your issue to deal with not your neighbours.
wear a mask, take antihistamine, move house - whatever, but stop expecting the world to change for your benefit!! Your reaction is completely unreasonable and OTT

PeachyPoppedBack · 27/08/2022 20:45

Another thought- what happens if someone moves in who has a guide dog or other assistance animal? Would you want them barred? Won’t happen, equality act.
My son takes the non drowsy anti histamines, the pharmacist helped him find the right ones. He can’t avoid his trigger either (pollen) so it makes life easier.

I know you mean well but she was probably referring to the op who’s first sentence was that she has name changed for this

That makes more sense Blush

FlockOfTwats · 27/08/2022 21:30

Oh. My. God. I’ve never heard anything so entitled in my life. Who do you actually think you are duck???

happygertie · 27/08/2022 21:37

Rustpail · 25/08/2022 12:18

@SolasAnla unfortunately the lease just says that dogs are allowed with permission, and that permission will be revoked for noise nuisance or fouling, which I find weirdly specific. This dog is a nuisance, just not in the ways listed.

For those asking I think it is a labrador, but I dont know that that matters.

I'm just so upset, I can't afford to move again, and I am so miserable. I just wished they'd told me.

The facemasks are a good idea- I might try that, then at least the owner might get the picture that i am not happy

I'm sure she won't give a shit that you're not happy. What do you expect her to do? Do you seriously expect her to get rid of the dog? Move out? You have a you issue!

eyeroll78 · 27/08/2022 22:17

Yeah, there are plenty of one a day allergy meds that are non-drowsy, so that excuse is out. Sounds like you just don't like dogs, and are being an EK

Coffeelotsofcoffee · 28/08/2022 06:20

Fu(£ing hell is this post for real?

I'm allergic to entitled brats like you but sadly I have to put up with them every day of my life.

I'm with the dog.

Galwaygirl1 · 28/08/2022 06:43

I actually joined Mumsnet today to call out this fruitcake.

You are being totally unreasonable. Sounds like this dog has a very responsible owner, and is very well behaved.

You are a moaner, and moaners always find something to moan about.

Coffeelotsofcoffee · 28/08/2022 06:58

PS if you start causing this woman problems and making up malicious lies about her dog and asking her to hoover twice a day etc YOU are the one who will get done for harassment and anti social behaviour.
So have a think about that.

Also a dopey labrador is hardly an intimating breed

Treaclepud13 · 28/08/2022 08:08

Snap Galwaygirl1, so did I! I can’t believe this woman, her sense of entitlement is unreal. Imagine having a neighbour like her…… can’t imagine she’s going to have tons of friends in her community after the way she’s acted

Meche75 · 28/08/2022 11:10

Imagine having to live next door to someone so entitled, it’s actually the dog I feel for having you as a neighbour. 🙄

DixonD · 26/08/2022 13:07

You’re a bit much OP. And a bit of a knob.

Seriously? When there are actual ill people who can't get a doctor's appointment, you would seriously go to to the doctor with this total bullshit?

HesterShaw1 · 28/08/2022 12:15

Wrong quote! Sorry

Thanks for those who actually were helpful. Hoovering more is a good shout, the management company hoovers once a month, and I know my neighbour hoovers inbetween, but I am going to write her a note saying that she needs to hoover every day, she obviously knows its a problem because she is already doing it a bit but weekly is just not enough.

I'm going to get a mask and see what the GP says and then see where we can go from there.

I'm not going to check this anymore because some of the comments are a bit much

You seem to be the one with the issue therefore you should be the one to hoover daily.
