Neighbours Dog

I'v name changed for this. But am at the end of my tether and need advice. I recently bought a flat, its lovely and I'm really happy with it, but my neighbour has an absolutely huge dog and I'm allergic. She insists on taking it out for a walk three times a day through the communal hallway and I find it quite intimidating and it is making me sneeze.

I wasnt told about the dog when I bought the flat, and it doesnt make any noise. Apparently she has permission for it and permission can only be removed if it is making a noise or fouling - but not for any other nuisance. What can I do?

Wow OP you are one bonkers entitled brat!!!
Hoover the hallway yourself seeing as this is your problem.

Mollymalone123 · 27/08/2022 00:00

There are quite a few antihistamines that don’t make you drowsy.so that’s a non argument to start with.my DD has a rare allergy to which she takes a combination of two different antihistamines and she has never felt drowsy. That poor dog owner having an entitled human like you living near her!

Orangello · 27/08/2022 07:21

How the hell do you think k hayfever sufferers go on every spring/summer. These of us worse effected are miserable for 6 months of the year. Antihistamines always make me drowsy

well obviously you should just demand that all trees, flowers and grass is eliminated. I mean they didn't tell you people will be allowed to have trees..

We gave our neighbour the option of cutting down all the offending trees and plants or hoovering them free of pollen every morning. She was happy to agree to hoover.

Where do you live that vacuuming a handful of trees would make the slightest bit of difference. This is utterly ridiculous, and I say that as a lifelong hayfever sufferer.

I can't work out whether you've had a complete sense of humour failure or not though.

😂 thank you for the giggle. I can imagine a scene with Margot Ledbetter insisting on Tom and Barbara hoovering their trees....

This thread just keeps on giving 😁

Just to echo what others have said; you're being ridiculous. The dog is none of your business as long as it isn't being a nuisance or fowling. If you want the hall hoovered, you bloody do it.

I’m gonna put the boot in even more.

How, OP, do you not know if the dog isn’t allergic to you?!

AntiHop · 27/08/2022 10:01

You can get non drowsy antihistamines. I take them daily and have done for years.

How wide is the hallway? Could you somehow seal off your doorway with some kind of clear plastic construction with a zip up door or similar?

@Rustpail any thoughts on my idea? You could make almost a greenhouse type porch around your door

purdypuma · 27/08/2022 10:55

You can buy anti-histamines that are non drowsy. Tbh I think you would be unreasonable if you were to expect her to get rid of her dog. It's your issue not hers & they were there before you moved in.

ExcaliburBaby · 27/08/2022 10:56

ridiculous. Move.

Daisylou1986 · 27/08/2022 15:52

Did you ask if there were dogs in the building? Maybe they thought that what happens in a neighbours flat isn't your business?

Daisylou1986 · 27/08/2022 15:54

The dog isn't being a nuisance though, you are .
If its in the lease about dogs, then that's down to you to check it out

Youre being selfish and self centred

Daisylou1986 · 27/08/2022 16:07

How do you know the dog isn't a service dog ?
Sneezing isnt a serious allergy. She says she doesn't take anti histamines so how serious can it be ?

Daisylou1986 · 27/08/2022 16:21

You said it was 3 times a day ( I presume you work from home or you're a SAHM to know that) then you say its all day .
Did you start sneezing when you viewed rhe flat? I mean,if your allergies are that bad ,you would have wouldn't you? Maybe you should have asked about dogs then ?
Why would the management let you know other tenants private business?
Theres been plenty of suggestions on here. The best one is the anti histamine ( non drowsy ) I would have thought if you had bad allergies ,you would be taking them already

One day you'll realise ,the world doesn't dance to your tune

lobsterkiller · 27/08/2022 16:21

I'm looking forward to the neighbours AIBU about the whiny, entitled neighbour who insists on the dog being removed without good reason.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 27/08/2022 16:30

Aaaaannnnd the ridiculousness made the Daily Mirror....

ItsJustASimpleLine · 26/08/2022 20:38

I don't understand what you want to achieve. Do you want her to get rid of her dog?

Exactly!

The dog obeys the rules, but still has to go!

PeachyPoppedBack · 27/08/2022 17:11

I’m nature everything else has been said but I’m just going to add my experience as a long term rescue volunteer for a major charity.

there are no rescue spaces available. The days of just rehome a pet are gone.

we used to get maybe ten calls a day, it is many times that now but even the waiting list is closed. If a dog was at risk we never, ever turned it away but that isn’t the case now even though we know PTS is likely for some and it breaks our hearts. So many people cannot feed their pets or pay their bills and in the other side nobody is taking in another mouth to feed or able to free up time to foster either.

it is the same for every rescue in our area, even the old reliable independent will take any animal ones.

I keep seeing posts on Facebook etc saying ‘I’m reporting your dog so you you’d better rehome it’ and know full well it’s a death sentence if they carry out the threat and the owner is in a LHA home as most are here.
