Have you watched this video by Neil Oliver

AIBU to start believing he actually has a valid point. I am not normally part of the tin foil hat brigade but I most definitely have been starting to question what's been going on recently

I'd be interested to hear other people views on this subject.

Thanks

oops, link fail.

I thought it was all rumour, conspiracy and myth but here you are, GB New's viewer.

CornishGem1975 · 21/08/2022 09:08

I don't generally believe in conspiracies but fuck me, the further we go into this shit show I'm starting to hope this is all part of a bigger plan and not just the fact that we continually elect shambolic people to manage the country.

Usually cockup rather than conspiracy.

foliageeverywhere · 21/08/2022 09:56

Indoctro · 21/08/2022 09:54

So people are focusing too much on who the video is by

Forget Neil my point is I was already starting to question what is happening in the world and then I came across his video and he basically is also questioning what is going on

Is anyone starting to ask / think why .? That is what I meant.

See above @Indoctro

I didn't outright dismiss because it was Neil, I read through the entire transcript.

Yes he is still talking bollocks.

With the classic "OPEN YOUR EYES" line at the end. CBA with this nonsense.

Riverlee · 21/08/2022 09:56

Is Neil Oliver trying to take us for fools.

These theories on youtube can be a nice little earner.

More and more people coming round

At what point does a conspiracy theory become mainstream?

When it has a robust evidence basis.

Which none of the things he was rambling about do @lightand

MsRosley · 21/08/2022 09:59

goshy · 21/08/2022 09:32

@MsRosley what do you think the solution is?

@goshy I honestly don't know, but if you look at the statistics for the massive decline in insect and animal numbers over the last 50 years, the natural world is clearly in crisis. Globally humans are using resources at a rate that would require there to be at least two planets unless we cut down. None of this is sustainable, even without taking climate change into account.

I'd suggest you "open your eyes" to how much money someone can make from posting these kinds of articles & videos. And how posting rational but boring explanations gets you barely any clicks.

There are certainly people being taken for fools here.

So we have shadowy forces that are powerful enough to be secretly doing whatever it is the likes of NO think they are doing.

Why aren't these all powerful shadowy forces shutting down the people shouting about their dastardly secret plans on YouTube and Mumsnet etc? Perhaps they are not so powerful after all...

Trump, Jordan Peterson, Tony Heller and many more have all been banned on twitter for speaking out against the mainstream narrative.

Until you actually try to speak about these things you won’t understand the censorship you will face.

I know someone who has run a profitable website for the past four years, but because it goes against the narrative it has been repeatedly de-monitised by Google, his social media was all ‘shadow banned’ where he would get thousands of followers removed daily, people would message him and say that they repeatedly follow him but then the next day they have been removed. Now some of his social media have just been outright banned.

This site isn’t ‘tin foil hat’ stuff, it’s weather, it uses scientific studies and all facts are backed up, but again it just doesn’t fit the narrative so it just gets banned.

Youtubers get ads removed ALL THE TIME for the same reason.

If you are not part of the fight you don’t see the censorship that is everywhere- and therefore are part of the problem.

And the fight being literally just free speech, whichever side of the debate you may be on.

ZandathePanda · 21/08/2022 10:00

OP watch The Undeclared War.

I think there’s more than a few Russians trying to stir up conspiracy theories on twitter to get people freaked out. Just look at how they are controlling the narrative on Ukraine to their own country. Look at the Cambridge Analytica scandal too. Data harvesting to try and manipulate votes.

Every so often they will ‘get’ a more persuadable person. They use data to profile you in order to create more unrest. The aim is to destabilise.

The question is, are you the one trying to cause chaos or the suggestible person who spouts it forward? 😉Or is the Russian theory a conspiracy too?!😁

goshy · 21/08/2022 10:01

But there is no point lamenting the situation in my eyes without a solution.

Anothernamechangeplease · 21/08/2022 10:01

I really fear for our democracy when I read threads like this. How can we possibly expect anything other than corrupt, incompetent government when people lack critical thinking skills to the extent that they believe shit like this.

FOJN · 21/08/2022 10:02

DogInATent

My you got a good long post out of a cherry picked quote. Well done you.
I'd have more respect if you had included the final sentence in that paragraph but I suspect it would have denied you the opportunity to present yourself as clever and well informed whilst you told the rest of us what we us all already know.

Big Neil Oliver fan here. He is one of my heros and I enjoy his GB News monologues. I suppose that makes me a bit of a loony on MN.

This is full of suppositions about motivations and very little actual facts. I think never attribute to malice what could be sheer incompetence.
I think I'll stick with the guardian for now. They do a much better job of exposing important facts (if you look at the right sections of the web site)

NotMyDust · 21/08/2022 07:52

@knittingaddict ooh do you think someone is posting this stuff on Mumsnet for a reason?

interesting.... although it's ironically that's
a bit conspiracy theory itself

There was definitely orchestrated posting during COVID-19. Lots of fake looking accounts e.g., "SueLodon73" etc, generally late at night. All posting around the idea that vaccines were a plot to kill people and COVID wasn't real.

There have been leaked chats from various disinformation groups about how posting on forums like MN was a good idea, so definitely not just a CT.

Was fascinating and worrying, and it wouldn't suprise me if it was a ploy used to disseminate other types of misinfo.

Have you read the transcript of his latest interview, and do you think he is providing credible arguments for the things he is claiming?

Neil O said: the powers that be fully intend that we should have less heat and less fuel and that in the planned future only the rich will have cars anyway

He is so nearly right, but so, so wrong.

In the future, we (the non-rich) will have less heat and less fuel and only the rich will have reliable cars.

But this is not due to any conspiracy. 'The powers that be' are not one single organised group, they don't act collectively, and don't 'intend' anything except to keep themselves and their families as protected and rich as possible (and don't we all do the same?).

The reason we will have less fuel and will struggle to keep clapped-out old cars on the road is that the world will have less and less oil every year, forever.
This is also the reason that the economy is nose-diving and global economic growth is over for good. It is also part of the reason that global food security is a massive issue (the other part of the reason is climate change of course).

Oil is everything. It is the uber-resource. In about 2008 the world had the most oil ever. And we have had less every year since. And will continue to have less every year - apart from those wealthy and powerful enough to secure the lion's share of dwindling supplies.

If you want to know more, google 'peak oil'. But keep a critical mind and watch out for rabbit holes.

Have you not heard of electric cars? Peak oil was in the 1970's . I think you need a rest.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 21/08/2022 10:11

He’s always been a bit of a nobber, but he’s gone full-on crackers. The fact he’s been disowned by his profession tells you a lot.

Unfortunately those in the realm of the unwell have better means than ever to reach out to others and gather an echo chamber around them, thanks to the internet. Just because you recognise someone’s face doesn’t make them a person whose utterings are trustworthy, or should be respected.

Please take a more critical look at what you hear and read, and remember that those offering a platform to people like him have financial backers, political views and other motivations that it’s important to understand before you can evaluate their content in context. As an historian, it’s what he would have wanted, before he fell of the edge of the world.

GrabbyGabby · 21/08/2022 10:12

There is no great mystery here. Its called capitalism. Of course the mega rich want to stay that way and will do everything in their power to increase the amount of the worlds resources in their hands. Of course they own governments, way more than the people do. Just look at how contracts were doled out like sweeties ti their mates throughout the pandemic. And how the power companies get rich as families go under. This is what capitalism looks like.

Only the most recent batch of leaders are so inept and corrupt that this is so nakedly obvious to anyone with half a brain cell.

So, now, to distract the proles from focusing on the real targets, of which Trump would be right up there, they throw in the anti vax and climate change bollocks.

Conspiracies aren't required to explain why we are where we are.
