Have you watched this video by Neil Oliver

AIBU to start believing he actually has a valid point. I am not normally part of the tin foil hat brigade but I most definitely have been starting to question what's been going on recently

I'd be interested to hear other people views on this subject.

Thanks

Also just look at what happened to the trucker protests in Canada - Trudeau froze their bank accounts. Something a dictator would do - not something in a free democratic country were people should have the right to free assembly.

WEF ‘young leader’

Well talk about stating the obvious.
I don’t listen to anyone who doesn’t practise what they preach. I don’t buy records from millionaires in the guise of “Help save the poor!” No you be save the poor by actually doing something useful not getting poor folks to buy your crap and make you richer.
Plebs do not go on holiday. Instead work 365 days a year for a crap wage and just stay at home whilst I cruise around the entire world cos I’m special me. Stop buying stuff in plastic but buy the crap I endorse which is polluting the planet.
Don’t buy a car. Walk 6 miles to work instead carrying your home made packed lunch, plastic free of course. Whilst I own several gas guzzling vehicles and drive/fly everywhere.
Seriously shut up.

mondaytosunday · 21/08/2022 10:43

Goodness. I've always had a bit of a thing for him when he did Coast, but what a hypocrite.

@EmmaH2022 Thank you. I thought his voice sounded very familiar. He has a very soothing voice

MercurialMonday · 21/08/2022 10:46

But this is not due to any conspiracy. 'The powers that be' are not one single organised group, they don't act collectively, and don't 'intend' anything except to keep themselves and their families as protected and rich as possible (and don't we all do the same?).

This.

I do think there an issue not just in UK but wider of a lack of proper leadership or long term planning.

We need to invest in infrastructure - though here new big solar farm got blocked, tidal project blocked wind farm expansion blocked - a lot of time under environmental concerns, government plans for small nuclear satiation not popular - but according to welsh government were not having gas boilers after a certain date but no idea what to replace with - heat pumps have issue which always get dismissed but I don't think we have the land and we don't have the money for one at current prices.

I like vaccinations - I also like as much science in my medicine as possible.

I have recently heard media question cap on medical school places - there are students who want to study and don't get places and universities who'd take more if they got paid for them- I know it will be at least 5 year + before they came useful but were still going to have an aging population then so will need them. Government response we'll get them from abroad - I think it's more a concern we''ll be losing one we've trained to other countries - sort of example about short term thinking we get a lot of.

@knittingaddict so aren't you even remotely questioning what's has happened is last 3 years and the tripe that Klaus Schwab has been spouting about what the future hold for us all.

Again @Indoctro : what power does Schwab and the WEF have over the world's governments? Please answer this time.

Numbat2022 · 21/08/2022 06:30

I managed three minutes.

You are being unreasonable to watch Neil Oliver. The man is a deluded conspiracy theorist who makes a living off scaring people.

However, there is no doubt we have the worst government we've ever had, run by people who have absolutely no interest in helping or improving things for the people of this country. They are corrupt, they use their power to help their friends and Tory party donors make money, and they only want to stay in power to continue the gravy train.

Schemes like net zero are not the problem. We need a government who will invest huge amounts of money in renewable energy - wind farms, solar farms, solar panels on every new house, etc etc. We need a government who will think long term and do the best thing for the country in 50+ years, not just think about their term in government.

The problem is the Tory party, and the imbeciles who are currently running it (who have always been there, just better hidden).

Totally agree with this.

I do think that life as we know it will have to change. There are too many people in the world, too many cars in the world. We live in a throw away society where it's more convenient to throw a TV away for example, rather than going through the hassle of ringing someone and then waiting a few days to see if they can come out and repair it. We don't want that, how can we survive without a TV for longer than a few hours? This is how we are, we want everything now and to hell with the consequences for the planet.

Bluebellsunderthetrees · 21/08/2022 10:52

@ClaudineClare " Do you understand what the WEF actually is and what power it has (or more importantly doesn't have) over the world's governments? Do you think the WEF has the power to reduce the population?"

I don't know about reducing the population but to say WEF has no influence on world govts is naïve. Devi Sridhar who sprung to prominence advising the Scottish Govt during Covid (and who we seemed to never hear the end of up here) has a position on the WEF Global Agenda Council for Health Industry.
She also co wrote a book with Chelsea Clinton. Here's Chelsea's bio on WEF www.weforum.org/people/chelsea-clinton
You think the Clintons or their Foundation have no influence? Or any of the other powerful people on the WEF?
I recently read an excellent article about the exact problem of the influence of the very rich and powerful on global decisions down to things like their choice on what actually gets researched because they fund it . This narrows everything because of the huge disproportionate concentration of wealth and power globally amongst relatively few people who also happen to be on the WEF. It isn't a good thing and globalisation continues to concentrate that power and wealth.

but it's about partnerships surely? They have influence in every country, like WHO.

one example

if you read the old Schwab book, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, you can see what their vision of the future was in 2016. Of course some people love it - we're all entitled to a view. My goddaughter is hoping to work on a lot of that tech.

Yes, the problem is hospitals are already struggling to train the FY1/FY2 doctors that enter after completing their studies. So it's more complex than just increasing medical school places @MercurialMonday

I believe there were some students (newly qualified doctors) last year who couldn't actually get onto FY1 placements, which is outrageous.

ClaudineClare · 21/08/2022 10:55

Honestly, there is some bonkers shite on this thread.

All that is happening is that we have had several crises snowball at the same time as us being cursed with Johnson and his corrupt government. No conspiracy, no all powerful WEF or whatever plotting to kill us all or steal everything from us. Just several shitstorms hitting at the same time.

If you want to worry about something, worry about what Truss, Braverman and the rest of the Tories will do to the poor and vulnerable over the next couple of years.

bolleauxnouveau · 21/08/2022 10:58

I don't think he's wrong but I figure the choice is between making your life infinitely harder working outside the easy options, or conserving your resources whilst taking a watching brief.

Ironically I just searched up Naomi Klein's book on Amazon but like most people I probably won't make time to read it, too busy rambling through mumsnet.

Scepticalwotsits · 21/08/2022 10:58

Also just look at what happened to the trucker protests in Canada - Trudeau froze their bank accounts. Something a dictator would do - not something in a free democratic country were people should have the right to free assembly.

People have the right to peaceful free assembly. They do not have the right to obstruct or break laws of that country. This month long blockade was an unlawful demonstration that created chaos for ordinary Canadians and was leading to loss of jobs and income for many ordinary workers.

The anti-vaccination protest blockade was condemned by the Canadian Trucking Alliance and Canada’s Teamsters Union as about 90% of Canadian truck drivers were already vaccinated and relatively few of those protesting were actually professional truck drivers. Moreover, this protest took place in Canada yet strangely protesters wore Trump and MAGA hats and donations to the protesters flooded in internationally, particularly from Florida.

Trudeau had to act. Freezing bank accounts was actually strategic and clever because it didn’t use overt force that could have so easily escalated. So I was glad that Trudeau finally stepped in and took action… after a month. Do you think if this protest took place in China or Russia it would last any longer than an hour? With military involved? So they were bloody lucky to be in a democratic country like Canada.

goshy · 21/08/2022 11:02

Yes let's be more like China & Russia 🙄

LemonSwan · 21/08/2022 11:02

Well have to say the man has a point if he what he’s saying about the farmers is true.

Why are we not having a dig for victory style push. Why are farmers being encouraged to sell? I would have thought after Brexit it would have been an ideal time to invest in more food infrastructure. Why do we not have banks of glass houses at the ports like they do in Netherlands.

Its strange. Have to agree with him about that tbh.

Perhaps it’s not a nefarious conspiracy and instead some kind of culture problem? Gov think farmings beneath our economy 🤷‍♀️

Asurvivor · 21/08/2022 11:02

I think the problem is how polarised our thinking has become in the west. Why does everyone need to be fervently for or against something, no middle ground. The left is forever looking for the purest causes and to take the moral high ground - no room for discussion or seeing the other’s point of view. The right seems to be looking for conspiracy theories in everything - again no room for discussion or a difference of opinions. Was it always like this? I thought that the centre was where most people were, where did the possibility of reasoned debate weighing up the pros and cons go to? What happened to finding common ground?

An example is covid vaccines - I am fully vaccinated, accept the risk of any side effects is worth the upside of protecting the most vulnerable etc.

Last year I met with a male colleague mid 40s who was really healthy, ran marathons etc. He suffered an extreme reaction to the vaccine (think it was called myocarditis), was to do with his heart. He had to be hospitalised and it has had a lasting impact as he can no longer run as before and he needs to be monitored regularly etc. I was pretty shocked when he told me that this side effect was more common than had been reported, I was not even aware it had ever been reported on.

I think it is detrimental to the roll out and acceptance of vaccines if side effects are hushed up and the view is pushed that the vaccine is only good. And having geniuine comcerns about the vaccination is only bad. It just gives ammunition to anti-vaxxers that there is a conspiracy going on if the full facts are not presented for people to make up their own minds. And we should be allowed to make up our own minds and not forced to abide by the left wing morally-right groupthink.

We used to be able to have this kind of centre-ground discussion - there are plenty of other examples I could give, so what has happened? I really don’t understand.

Oh I have no idea. i read the Fourth Ind Rev when it came out in 2016-17.

I suppose certain things became more obvious in 2020, like the HSBC ads, my neighbour told me it was a deep fake when I was surrounded by the ads every time I went through Euston!

If you look at our gov website, you can see how many speeches etc UK govt give at WEF. I'm not sure I get your question. It's like the WHO. Are you going to say they have no influence?

they might seem like a talking shop but all countries at least listen to them. The want a global pandemic response written up now as well - I suspect they will get this. Do you see all international orgs as having no influence?

LondonWolf · 21/08/2022 11:06

Of course! I admire the passion of the man to say what he believes. He will not be seen as PC by many people but thank God for the likes of him, Calvin Robinson, Laurence Fox etc. who are standing up against MSM. Not a popular MN belief, I know but I am entitled to my opinions.

Agree. I don't have to agree with everything they say to be glad they have the right to say it.

Have you actually read the transcript of his latest interview, and do you think he is providing credible arguments for the things he is claiming?

I've read it and I don't know so I will go find out more. What I dislike is the immediate dismissal of his being a crackpot conspiracy theorist without any addressing of what he's actually saying, which makes me suspect that those going that probably know as little as I do.

foliageeverywhere · 21/08/2022 11:06

@Asurvivor

Side effects aren't being hushed up. It is widely known that vaccines can cause myo/pericarditis, and people are encouraged to report this and anything else on the surveillance system used in their country.

Many research groups worldwide have bene looking into, and publishing articles on prevalence, mechanism and prognosis of side effects. It's ridiculous to say otherwise.

It remains the case that it is safer to be vaccinated than not, which is why people get so frustrated with people trying to push cherry picked "statistics" to imply they are not safe.

LondonWolf · 21/08/2022 11:06

Doing that not going that.
