I know, I am in the wrong because I parked wrong. For 2 minutes only, but nonetheless- wrong.

I was getting back into my car and this lady starts charging at me- I had both my Babies in the car. She starts screaming at me ' you can't park here, you can't park here. ' I put my hands up and say ' I know I'm sorry I'm sorry. ' She continues charging at my car. At this point I got scared and again said 'I am sorry and it won't happen again. '

I jumped into my car and locked the doors and she starts banging on my window, at which point - I again say ' look I understand and I won't park here again'.

Only then did she finally let off and I drove away.

Isn't that a bit of an extreme reaction ? I would never do that. Fair enough if I had got angry back, but I immediately apologised and backed down and she just kept going. She really scared me.

A blue badge holder can park for up to 3 hours on a double yellow provided there are no loading restrictions and their badge is prominently displayed.

Not quite true actually. There are restrictions which include not parking within a meter of a corner/junction and also across a dropped kerb. They think they can just park anywhere but they have rules to stick by too or they are also committing an offence. So if they shout when called out, they are completely out of order.

She's mental. No one's perfect, you were going to move anyway. She is batshit

WiddlinDiddlin · 19/08/2022 22:38

You were done and trying to move, she kept you there longer with her aggressive behaviour.

Also, she didn't check you didn't have a blue badge before she accosted you, so she's wronger than you are!

Nobetterthansheoughttobe · 20/08/2022 07:50

well put, @LuftBalloons

Lookingforbargains · 20/08/2022 08:07

There is a type of poster on AIBU who literally cannot see past the first action and will keep returning to it - ie “but you were in the wrong for parking there in the first place” and will use that to justify whatever madness the other party then dishes out.

OP clearly acknowledged she was wrong to stop there, so she’s not arguing about that! She’s suggesting that the response was OTT. Which it clearly was. It seems as if some posters can’t compute that two actions can be wrong! So, given that the OP parked badly, would the woman be justified if she punched OP? Murdered her? Where is the line? Or does bad parking justify literally any response?!

Blantw · 20/08/2022 08:30

What a ridiculous post.

Blantw · 20/08/2022 08:30

Served you right, you won't park there again.

Mollymoostoo · 20/08/2022 09:12

That's what is affectionately known qs a Karen in America. I would love to see someone like that in my city, we have pockets where people park on double yellows during certain festivals to go in shops. Even traffic wardens are not a deterrent.

TrashPandas · 20/08/2022 10:14

That isn't remotely what a Karen is.

Angelinflipflops · 20/08/2022 10:23

Karen is a horrible term

Lunar270 · 20/08/2022 10:26

Angelinflipflops · 20/08/2022 10:23

Karen is a horrible term

Hijacked by white people to mean something completely different to the original. The term was fine until it got ruined.

A bit like woke, which was originally a positive term but again hijacked.

Angelinflipflops · 20/08/2022 10:29

Another pejorative term for women, not sure it was ever fine

Londoncallingme · 20/08/2022 10:31

She’s lucky she got you and not me.
Some very perfect people on here op - she sounds mad and would have got as good as she gave from me.

rainbowmilk · 20/08/2022 10:34

I don't want to ever go back to a time when you couldn't speak your mind about religion, so when someone asks, even nicely, to stop offending their religious beliefs, and follows it up by talking about the respect they believe their religious characters are due, I think about how much of that expectation of respect is a hangover from a time when they could force me

@ClumpingBambooIsALie You’ve articulated something I’ve felt my entire life, but never known how to express. Thank you.

Baldieheid · 20/08/2022 10:36

I'd personally say the only reason to stop on double yellows is a true emergency. Babies crying aren't an emergency, just drive a few hundred metres to another street and stop safely when you can. Double yellows indicate you've stopped somewhere unsafe, not just for other road users but for you. You're in the boot and back of your car, OP, and another driver not expecting to meet a parked car (cos double yellows) could easily have ploughed right into the back of you.

Other person's reaction seems a tad ott, but your decision to stop there was stupid. Not just wrong. Stupid. You put yourself and your kids in danger for the sake of not driving a few more minutes with a howling baby. I know you won't do it again, you've said so, but seriously, double yellows are there for good reasons, not cos they look pretty.

Angelinflipflops · 20/08/2022 10:39

Delivery drivers stop on double yellow lines all.the time. A mother tending to her baby for 2 minutes is not a catastrophe

Iamamoleandiliveinahole22 · 19/08/2022 22:24

This. You weren't parking as you remained in your vehicle - you were stopping temporarily to tend to your baby. I'd have told her where to go, awful response by her.

Buttonjugs · 20/08/2022 12:27

If there were more like her people wouldn’t abuse parking rules. You say you won’t do it again, her mission was successful.

Lunar270 · 20/08/2022 12:33

You say you won’t do it again, her mission was successful.

By being a complete dick.

Blossomtoes · 20/08/2022 12:53

Quite.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 18/08/2022 20:51

People like you boil my piss. Don’t break the law.

Completely agree. Pisses me right off that we all have to obey the road rules but some people think they're above it. Hopefully this will make OP think twice.

It's as bad as school mums parking on the pavement making pedestrians walk in the road to get around them. Entitled af.

JudgeJ · 20/08/2022 15:10

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 18/08/2022 20:41

She was over the top, but you aren't special. You shouldn't have parked there. Just don't in future.

Of course the OP shouldn't have parked there and having babies in the car isn't a free parking card but the screecher was wrong too. I find that it's best to ignore anyone like her, totally ignore her, don't even look at her, the more you ignore her the madder and battier she'll get and if someone comes close enogh to my car to be banging on the window I find that very quickly slamming the door open stops them.

pollymere · 20/08/2022 16:41

You are legally allowed to stop on double yellow lines for loading etc. And if you've a Blue Badge you can park there for three hours. None of her business and no right to scare you. I'd have greatly enjoyed getting out the Blue Badge and looking smug.

Broadhillbaby · 20/08/2022 21:24

What gives her the right to correct you for parking there. OK it is wrong but she does not own the road or make the rules. I would gave told her that. A policeman or traffic warden would simply ask you to move on. You have no reason to apologise to HER

sue20 · 21/08/2022 00:03

Whattodoaboutworknow · 18/08/2022 20:45

Could be a really tight street so no parking allowed? Could be known for accidents? Cars opposite might get damaged because no room to get through because cats opposite are parked on double yellows. Could be blocking access. Loads of reasons.

OP says she was there for 2 minutes. Yes double yellow everyone knows that’s forbidden but If you are stressed and just really feel the need to briefly stop the car ? Doesn’t sound like any damage done. Woman sounds crazy no excuse for that level of reaction. Especially with the apologetic response.
