Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

Heat - yes fed up totally but I'm sick of BBQ smoke (it's a huge outside oven with chimney) by the neighbour 5 days in a row.

User639921 · 14/08/2022 16:31

@Badger1970 what a shame, I struggle with pitch standing at the best of times, I don't think I would have coped in the heat with all the people and you have to be there way before they come on stage as well and its difficult to drink enough as well, hope you managed to enjoy it a bit though. Usually I worry about it raining at these outdoor things but I think that would have been far better, at least you can just wear a mac.

Yes a million times. I had the week off work and I’m furious as I’ve wasted it because I’ve done literally nothing but sit in front of fans and feel miserable. I’m moving up north, I’ve had enough!

It's getting hotter here too I'm afraid.

ivykaty44 · 14/08/2022 16:33

sick to death of the moaning about the heat, its ridiculous. There are ways and means of making yourself cooler without fuss

wet a sarong and pop round you and stand or sit in front of a fan for a while

pop flannels in the freezer, wet and then drape round your neck

trap the cool air in the house in the morning before 8am and close the windows and curtains to keep the cooler air

Jellywobblescobbles · 14/08/2022 16:34

I’m in the North and will be glad when it cools off tomorrow. It’s been nice getting washing dry in no time but working and sleeping in it has been difficult. It’s not like being abroad near the sea/pool and aircon! House needs a clean too…🤔

maddiemookins16mum · 14/08/2022 16:35

I don’t like the heat but part of me is thinking that in 3 weeks the wains will back at School, you can already see the evenings are well dark by 9pm and soon it will be months of cold, dank, grey days. It’s more the not sleeping I hate. Today we went down the coast, lovely breeze, sunshine, mini golf, ice-cream and a poke of chips. Happy days, I’m enjoying it while we can.

krustykittens · 14/08/2022 16:35

It's the lack of water that has me stressed. We are keep ponies on a small holding on a private water supply that is now dangerously low. Grass is burnt and not growing, automatic water troughs are not refilling. Thank God we filled a couple of IBC tanks before this started in case of emergencies. It's a bad year to need to buy in extra hay as the price of fertiliser has gone through the roof and many farmers were not taking second cuts to sell as a result, so less hay available and it is a lot more expensive. Crops are failing, for humans and animals and we are being told, thanks to climate change, this is our new normal. Very scary.

DontKeepTheFaith · 14/08/2022 16:35

It’s awful today, I live near the sea but not a breath of wind. It feels horrendous.

Beach is too busy, can’t face the crowds just for a quick dip.

Can only hope for rain soon.

You didn’t have to click on this thread, you could clearly see the title.

Nasty superior attitude

amatsip · 14/08/2022 16:36

That was too @ivykaty44

I live in the SE, been in the NW all weekend. I think it's worse!

sickofthisshite000 · 14/08/2022 16:39

That's the other thing - I had a big list of chores I needed to do today. I've achieved sod all because it's just too hot to move. Very annoying.

While not a lover of this heat drying the washing outside within hours has been a blessing.
I've made the most of washing anything that's suitable to go in the machine....anything fabric that's not pinned down has had a darn good freshen up before the autumn and long dark nights set in....

Hopeandlove · 14/08/2022 16:42

My daughter (15) and I did nothing yesterday and my 4 pm she was saying she didn’t feel well. Curtains were shut and windows open and she was in shorts and a t shirt. It was 34 degrees and I took one look at her and took her temperature and stripped her off in the coolish bath for an hour I said, made her sip through over a litre of black current in that time. Cold towel out of the fridge / freezer on her neck and head and then rotated them over every 30 minutes and gave her paracetamol and crushed ice. I was seriously worried about her.

Lipsandlashes · 14/08/2022 16:42

We went to Tesco earlier - just to get out of the oven we’re calling a house. Even just walking from the air conditioned car to the air conditioned store, I felt sick and dizzy. It’s absolutely awful and I’m not sure how much more I can take. I haven’t slept properly for days and dread going to bed and just laying there getting hotter and hotter.

Passanotherjaffacake · 14/08/2022 16:43

Yep, just joining this one. Home with a very young baby and cluster feeding in the heat is relentless. Have a tired, bored and hot two year old with a nasty cut to her foot so she doesn’t fancy paddling pool today. Have totally run out of energy and activities for her. Husband hates the heat but has decided he must make some flat pack today. Has been a struggle just to keep the house ok. So done and can’t wait until tomorrow.

HumptyDumpling · 14/08/2022 16:43

I love it. The heat gives me energy. Have done loads of gardening and also some DIY bits we’ve been putting off. I painted a whole bedroom today and I’ve also emptied all the washing baskets (which is rare!) as clothes are drying so fast that I’ve been getting through the loads quickly.

Have been sleeping with windows wide open also - which would always be my preference anyway, but DH isn’t usually keen.

LuckySantangelo35 · 14/08/2022 16:44

I love it and wish it could stay like this forever and ever

sickofthisshite000 · 14/08/2022 16:44

It's saying torrential rain is possible tomorrow - seeing is believing though, because the last few times rain was forecast it hasn't materalised.

The lack of rain has actually started to make me feel a bit anxious.

@sickofthisshite000

why?

Twopandemicpregnancies · 14/08/2022 16:44

We got air conditioning fitted in the master bedroom at the start of the summer which has been a game changer. Planning to install one in the open plan kitchen / living area for next summer. Highly recommend

It's hot up north too!

Beepbeepenergy · 14/08/2022 16:46

It’s was like this when I was 9month pregs too 3 year ago so feel for you pregnant ladies

sickofthisshite000 · 14/08/2022 16:46

@Passanotherjaffacake not proud of it but my toddler has been stuck in front of the TV all afternoon because I've also run out of energy.

People are saying they can't wait until tomorrow, but it's still forecast to be 29C where I am (with possible showers in the afternoon but I won't hold my breath).

Totally with you...if you gave me the option of autumnal temperatures or a night with all three Hemsworth brothers right now it would be no contest.

I'm on the South Coast and spent a blissful week in Yorkshire immediately after the week we had the red warnings down here.

As soon as DD is through uni and settled in her adult life, I'm off. Have been considering it for a while anyway but I think climate change will be the clincher.
