Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

Yeah, I just have a sheet and a light fleece blanket in case it gets colder in the night.

MonkeyDoodles · 16/08/2022 22:22

Another heatwave can seriously do one. I mean it, this is ridiculous now.
Had a substantial downpour earlier but not as much as I was hoping. Still very humid and unpleasant.

😞

In my bit of East Anglia we haven't had a drop yet and it's so muggy. I'm almost certain I heard thunder earlier but the map lightening map wasn't showing anything so I may be hallucinating from excess heat.

Suetwo · 17/08/2022 11:56

Ugghh. We were promised a lovely lightening storm last night (Essex). Nothing. We were also promised rain today, but not a drop. And now they’re saying it’s 50/50 we’ll get any at all. Still horrible and muggy. God, I would hand over £50 cash for a week of sun and crunchy frost.

Cornettoninja · 17/08/2022 12:00

Essex/herts - dd had a nosebleed. She does sometimes in the summer but now I’m eyeing the skies for the promised thunder and lightening in the hope it was high pressure that caused it!

The mugginess/pressure seems far more intense since yesterday evening.

Cornettoninja · 17/08/2022 12:26

There are amber/yellow alerts for flooding covering the whole of southern England. If we don’t see a drop I’m declaring my town as the gateway to hell.

Same here (North East Essex). Went to be with weather app showing rain from the very early hours and throughout today. Not a single drop (though a friend, 2 miles away, had a bout of heavy rain earlier).

Am beginning to think there’s an invisible dome over my little patch!

CPL593H · 17/08/2022 12:51

NE Suffolk. We've had about the equivalent of a wrung out flannel this morning but my delivery driver said town about ten miles away has water running down the streets. It is marginally cooler though so suspending judgement on whether this is another East Anglian Hellmouth!

MarsupiIami · 17/08/2022 12:59

It's definitely cooler up here in Yorkshire this afternoon. I've put a jumper on. I didn't really need it but I'm dressing for the weather I want.

Suetwo · 17/08/2022 13:13

Just had a lovely downpour in Essex. Bliss. It’s also cooler.

These last six weeks have been horrible. I used to love the summer. Next year, I will be dreading it. Never thought I’d live to see 40 degrees in this island. And never thought I’d experience heat stroke in rural Essex! So looking forward to Autumn - chilly air, the smell of bonfires, cool sunshine shining through brown leaves, etc. There is nowhere in the world I would rather be than Oxford or Cambridge on a bright Autumnal day.

Dressing for the weather you want...lol😄

Big downpour here in this corner of SW London

the80sweregreat · 17/08/2022 17:51

I love this, dressing for the weather you want!
I know exactly what you mean

TheLostNights · 17/08/2022 18:59

Cooled down quite a bit in the early hours so managed to sleep pretty well for first time in ages.
Had quite a lot of rain today which was very much needed. Still not getting my hopes up that this is the end of the heat though.

tobee · 17/08/2022 21:16

It's at least ten degrees cooler, 18.8 degrees, here but it's deceptive because the rain has just made it sweaty; which I find worse. You just do a tiny bit of tidying up or whatever, and start to feel clammy. 😬

Furries · 18/08/2022 01:16

It’s been quite surreal looking at the pictures of torrential rain in London and parts of the south east. Am not dismissing anywhere else, but am obviously looking at areas nearer to me.

Hardly a drop here, Had about 10 minutes around 5pm and that was it. Seeing the photos seems crazy - hope not too many on here we’re affected by any deluges.

CrunchyCarrot · 18/08/2022 08:12

We had around an inch of rain night before last. Blissful cool air! Garden and surrounding rural areas really needed it. Still damp here today, foggy earlier on. I'm in the W.Midlands, west of Worcs, we got stuck under a rain band for some hours.

I impulse-bought a gorgeous cashmere cardi from Turtle Doves yesterday (sale on plus I had a 10% off voucher) - I must be craving the cold! 😂

The Mirror are reporting another heatwave next week. Kill. Me. Now.

Yay another holiday! 🧚🏻‍♀️

LittleBearPad · 18/08/2022 18:49

High of 27 here next week. I can cope with that!

Me too, as long as the forecasted showers and cloud cover materialises.

LittleBearPad · 18/08/2022 18:58

Yes it definitely needs to rain more frequently

tobee · 19/08/2022 19:42

We need useful rain. A big thunderstorm to clear the air. Then just early to mid 20s

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 19/08/2022 22:55

Had a big rainfall here yesterday
Been a lot more bearable since! Cooler at least

TheLostNights · 19/08/2022 23:21

Was 25C here and felt really muggy earlier. Thankfully the nights are cooler.
Moving into September soon and it will be a relief as extreme high temperatures become less and less likely as we get nearer to Autumn
