Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

sickofthisshite000 · 14/08/2022 15:09

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

I am so sick of this heat too. It’s about 32 here today. I’ve got loads of washing done and I’m happy that I can dry so many loads quickly outside but I can’t actually do anything else.

I feel sorry for people working in hospitals - and the patients- as they are always hot but it really must be unbearable now.

We also haven’t done as much as usual these holidays as it’s too hot.

I am looking forward to it being a pleasant 22 degrees.

Neverendingdust · 14/08/2022 15:40

It’s awful, literally wasting days off because it’s too hot to do anything. The beauty of cold weather is you can control your temperature, with this shite you can’t do anything except be sedentary.

My head seems to sweat a lot too - I woke up this morning with a damp pillow from sweating so much overnight. Horrible.

I got a microfibre cap, soaked it in cold water, wrung it out and went to bed in it. It really was helpful.

Crunchymum · 14/08/2022 15:45

I've been trying to make the best of it but I am reaching my end point now.

I was also off this week with the kids. We are in London and had to revise most of our plans as it just wasn't the weather for it. We had planned although thankfully not booked London Zoo. We also planned to hit some of the bigger parks and have a long walk along the Thames and doing the NHM. We've ended up staying much closer to home. We've had daily swimming and the park/s before lunch and then a canal walk or the splash park or the other swing parks in the evening.

Last night and today have been utterly unbearable. It's like my blood has been cooked from the inside. I am close to telling everyone to fuck off and locking myself in a dark, fanned room.

(I obviously wouldn't tell my young kids to fuck off but I am done with the moaning and whinging and whining!! We're all just too hot and tired and fed up)

Twawmyarse · 14/08/2022 15:46

I'm trying not to moan too much as it's so rare for us to get a properly hot summer - I'm actually getting to enjoy sitting in the garden for once and using our bar/paddling pool etc.

But I think one of the key things is how much you have to do - I get term time off so have been able to largely sit about doing sod all - to have to work/commute/run around after little ones in it would be hellish. And there's always this pressure to "get out and enjoy it" - people who live in hot climates think we brits are crazy the way we sit roasting in the sun. I remember being on holiday in Florida years back when it was similar temps to what were getting now and I fainted in one of the theme parks - the native Floridians who worked back at the hotel thought we were off our rockers for going out in it in the first place - they said they just move from one air conditioned place to the next!

Allschoolsareartschools · 14/08/2022 15:47

I'm enjoying it but I'm off work & can get out & about early then spend the afternoons in the shade in my garden.
Yes it's very hot but I'm really enjoying the blue skies, summery clothes & a proper summer for once.
I love Autumn too & think we're in for a lovely late summer first.
We're all different though, dsis suffers so much in the heat so I do sympathise.

avocadotofu · 14/08/2022 15:47

Yes absolutely! It's utterly awful!

Gardeningismythingwithawine · 14/08/2022 15:49

I’m in Scotland so it’s been bearable. Cooler than lots of places. My partner has been on a Training course in Liverpool and he says it was boiling last week. He ended up having a panic attack during the night because of the heat.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/08/2022 15:49

Me. I’ve done sod all for the past few days* except lie on the sofa with a book. Had ready meals for dinner the past 2 days although we rarely have them and I usually cook from scratch. Just couldn’t be arsed to cook in the heat.
Also haven’t been for my usual proper walk for ages.

Positively longing to lie in bed with cold air coming through the window, and the sound of lashing rain!

*Before that had Gdcs for 3 days and nights, out and about, so still recovering!

Nidan2Sandan · 14/08/2022 15:50

I'm trying to be grateful knowing what we face this winter with energy prices but fuck me I'm done!

Wasting my weekends as I'm too hot to do anything, and having three very pale, ginger children I'm constantly worried about them burning. Then sat all week behind a desk wishing I was off work.

Drought conditions are worrying me too, we'll need an incredibly wet autumn and winter to try to recover some of the reservoir losses..

honkeytonkwoman38 · 14/08/2022 15:50

Just left Pamplona. It was registering 42.5! 30 would be wonderful!

MarsupiIami · 14/08/2022 15:51

There was a bbc news article about some medication making it worse. One of mine is on there, which somewhat explains how miserable this heat has been.

Hope to god it’s not a “lovely late summer”. Roll on autumn.

ManateeFair · 14/08/2022 15:53

I’m not normally keen on the heat but I’ve quite enjoyed this weekend. I’ve been sitting outside in the shade and it’s been nice. It was a lot less enjoyable during the week when I was working though.

Badger1970 · 14/08/2022 15:56

We went to see Coldplay last night at Wembley. I ballsed up with the tickets and realised that I'd booked pitch standing (usually it's unreserved seating as well on the lower tiers) so we stood for nearly 5 hours in 35c heat surrounded by 50,000+ others. I love love love Coldplay and it cost us a fortune but I'd be lying if i said that I enjoyed it as much as I normally would have done ........... Sad we booked the tickets so long ago and have looked forward to it for ages.

My two dogs are miserable, I'm miserable and grumpy and overtired with a banging headache from not drinking enough yesterday.

Sunnyqueen · 14/08/2022 15:58

It's 37 in my back garden and long may it last. I do have a nice big pool though to dip in regularly. If I lived in a flat I'd probably be less happy.

AmberGer · 14/08/2022 15:59

What I can't understand is some of the people at work, when it's break time, go and sit in their car that's been sat in baking sun all day rather than sit in the staff room that has air con.
Bonkers!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/08/2022 16:00

@Topseyt123 , someone the other day said their lawn looked like Weetabix - that’s ours, too.

This has just solidified our plans to love to the north of scotland

I live in the north of Scotland and it's averaged 25 to 27 most days and omg it's humid. The bonus is we have great beaches and lochs to go too on days like that.

flumposie · 14/08/2022 16:01

Normally love this type of weather when I'm abroad ...with air conditioning, a pool or the sea. Absolutely fed up of it now since I have none of the above at home.

lollipoprainbow · 14/08/2022 16:04

Yes I'm fed up with having a dripping wet face and frizzy hair !!

Mississipi71 · 14/08/2022 16:05

Lucky to have air con. Me and two dogs are going nowhere.

InFiveMins · 14/08/2022 16:07

Yeah I am done with it now. I'm more of an autumn and winter kind of person anyway, but this is just too hot!

NotAnEmmit · 14/08/2022 16:08

Yep, completely fed up!

im not able to cope in hot weather at all, summer is my least favourite season. I’m longing for autumn.

mumofthemonsters808 · 14/08/2022 16:09

Yeap I’ve had enough, I’m even looking forward to the rain returning.

Rosscameasdoody · 14/08/2022 16:09

TeddyTonks · 14/08/2022 15:16

9 months pregnant. Fuck this shit. The worst of it is I know I'm better to stay pregnant than try to birth, breastfeed and keep cool a newborn in this heat. Also still suffering the after effects of a really bad bout of covid and have 2 other DC to chase 🥵 #pityparty

Definitely justified though. Hope you feel better soon and that all goes well.💐
