Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

sickofthisshite000 · 14/08/2022 15:09

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

My daughter (15) and I did nothing yesterday and my 4 pm she was saying she didn’t feel well. Curtains were shut and windows open and she was in shorts and a t shirt. It was 34 degrees and I took one look at her and took her temperature and stripped her off in the coolish bath for an hour I said, made her sip through over a litre of black current in that time. Cold towel out of the fridge / freezer on her neck and head and then rotated them over every 30 minutes and gave her paracetamol and crushed ice. I was seriously worried about her.

@Hopeandlove

that sounds like she was unwell with a bug or virus or something rather than a result of the heat.

It’s not been that hot to make people ill.

How do you think people in the med, or the Caribbean or South Africa manage?

3peassuit · 14/08/2022 16:47

I’ve just noticed it’s a wee bit overcast outside (Kent). Farmers are really desperate for rain, here’s hoping.

While not a lover of this heat drying the washing outside within hours has been a blessing.
I've made the most of washing anything that's suitable to go in the machine....anything fabric that's not pinned down has had a darn good freshen up before the autumn and long dark nights set in....

Yep the washing is a bonus. All the winter duvets have been washed and line dried, sleeping bags, throws, pillows, cushions. Basically if I could squash it up and hoof it into the washing machine, it went in.

whatshouldIdo2022 · 14/08/2022 16:48

Yep fed up to the back teeth with it, spent 3 days racing round after my 2 year old sweating my tits off, none of us are sleeping well, barely been anywhere because my car is parked in the sun with no shade option and its too hot to put DD in. Sympathies to all.

sickofthisshite000 · 14/08/2022 16:48

@LuckySantangelo35 When I start thinking about how it has barely rained for the last six weeks or so my anxiety levels start to rise. I think the heat and humidity make me feel a bit claustrophobic and trapped, so that could be why. Also concerns about climate change and feeling that the heat will never end (although logically I know that it has to at some point)

YANBU at all! I would be thrilled to have a cool, grey, rainy day!

sick to death of the moaning about the heat, its ridiculous. There are ways and means of making yourself cooler without fuss

wet a sarong and pop round you and stand or sit in front of a fan for a while

pop flannels in the freezer, wet and then drape round your neck

trap the cool air in the house in the morning before 8am and close the windows and curtains to keep the cooler air

Do you not think it possible that people who are really struggling with this aren't doing all those things and more? There are also some of us with health conditions exacerbated by it.

Bit patronising, really.

Alwaystheplusone · 14/08/2022 16:51

It’s absolutely vile. Currently 34 degrees in south London. Everything is dry and crispy, the leaves are dropping from the trees and the streets stink. It feels like this will never, ever end 😫

Whitehorsegirl · 14/08/2022 16:52

Yes. I am literally counting the hours until the weather cools off...

I am in London and it has been horrendous.

That helped me to make the decision to move North. I am not sticking around to go through this every summer.

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 14/08/2022 16:52

I'm in central Scotland and it has been boiling here (although not as hot as England). Today is supposed to be the last day though.

I can take the heat during the day, although I prefer it a bit cooler. It's nice to sit outside and get the paddling pool out for the DC.

At night though I cannot handle it at all. I had a panic the other night as I woke up and felt that I couldn't breathe there was just no air. My house holds heat really well (great in winter) so even when it gets cooler outside and night and we open the windows it just will not cool down. We are putting sheets in the freezer and it has been bliss but only for a short time until they heat up again.

Feel really sorry for all you pregnant posters. I did two summers heavily pregnant and nowhere near this hot and it was hellish. Can only imagine how you all are feeling.

BunsyGirl · 14/08/2022 16:53

Yes, I have just looked up the cost of getting a pool installed; £80k. Seriously, £80 bloody thousand. I know people that have paid not much more than that for a whole bloody house with a pool in Spain.

Timeturnerplease · 14/08/2022 16:54

Pre children me would be spending a good chunk of the summer holidays (teacher) relaxing in the garden doing planning or swimming in this weather.

Now, with children, the heatwave can quite frankly get in the bin. Too hot for the slides at the park so 3.5yo is grumpy, and the just turned 1yo can walk but refuses to, so any time in the nice shady garden results in her wailing because she’s tried to crawl across the roasting hot patio.

I moan in the winter about spending hours in the park in the rain but seriously, I honestly wasn’t asking for this instead.

Tangled123 · 14/08/2022 16:57

I used to love the heat but I’m really not feeling it this year. I’m not eating properly, which is destroying my energy levels, which is making it impossible to study for my exams in October, which is making me feel 10 times worse, and that is making me want to eat even less. It’s a very horrible cycle to be in, and the worst part is that I’m in Northern Ireland and, while hot for us, isn’t as bad as it is elsewhere.

reesewithoutaspoon · 14/08/2022 16:58

ooh clouds just appeared and a faint rumble of thunder in the distance. Fingers crossed

petshihtzu · 14/08/2022 16:59

yes I'm so tired I can't sleep properly

earsup · 14/08/2022 17:00

i dont mind it as now retired and enjoy being outside...also our air con runs off a huge solar panel system in the garden so its costing nothing to run at present..!!

neverbeenskiing · 14/08/2022 17:02

I've had enough. I've been put into drug induced menopause (endometriosis) so was having hot flushes and night sweats anyway, but this heat has made it unbearable. I don't have the energy to run around after two small children in this heat, I just want to lie on the sofa but they're too young to understand. I have to clean the house from top to bottom tomorrow (we've got guests coming) and it's going to be miserable in this heat. I'm sick to the back teeth of being sweaty and uncomfortable all the time.

Cornettoninja · 14/08/2022 17:04

sick to death of the moaning about the heat, its ridiculous

Uhuh.

So you thought adding a moan about moaning would add something to the conversation how exactly? If you can’t relate why not find a thread that does actually interest you? There’s no need to masochistic about it, no one was upset you hadn’t put your two pence worth in.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 14/08/2022 17:04

I haven't been outside since 6th August. My food is delivered fortnightly. If I did go out, it would be with a side trip to my local mccolls purely for the aircon.
Aside from that I sit in my bedroom, in the semi dark, occasionally switching my fan on, with the window open (top and bottom - sash window), either loom knitting or faffing on my tablet.
My bedroom is just under 25°, my front room is 27°.
I hate it.

@Caramelsmadfuzzytail

youve not been out 6th aug?

I hope you’re exaggerating

RedRosie · 14/08/2022 17:05

Humidity is waaaay lower than a couple of weeks ago, so I'm definitely finding it easier. Sorry for people in some jobs though (outdoor workers, emergency services, bus drivers, NHS) and in particular I have sympathy for shift workers. Very difficult to sleep in the day when it's so hot.

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 14/08/2022 17:06

I am fucking sick of it. We've got a new puppy so I feel ridiculously trapped as well as worrying loads about him. Teen DSs bored out of their heads and grouchy too. Oh and I've maybe got lupus (currently very rashy) so can't sit in the sun. Meant to rain here from 4pm BRING IT ON.

Nope. Don't need to, plus I'm agoraphobic so going out is a nightmare.
