Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

Yes. Thoroughly fed up with it now! I’ve had a free day for the first time in ages and could have done 101 things with it if the weather was cooler. Instead I’ve spent the day flopping around being grumpy and drinking water.

We were in Regents Park this weekend in the evenings - it’s totally bizarre - all the leaves are brown and many have fallen so crispy under foot. Blisteringly hot - so like autumn in the summer.

I find the monotony of it difficult. Day after day, night after night of waiting for it to break. Feeling lethargic and not sleeping (and having meno night sweats and hot flushes on top of it).

This isn’t “weather” which we are used to checking in on a couple of times a day / week to negotiate, work around and prepare for - it’s monotonous “Scortio, Scortio, Scortio” day and night for weeks on end.

That’s a large part of our normal removed.

Its also grim not to be able to do anything between 11-4 … feels unproductive and very restrictive - if it was pissing down for 5 hours every day at least you could put on a coat or put up an umbrella and go for a walk. You can’t even walk in the heat.

Def revising my plans to retire to the south coast - can’t hack it this at 55 - not possible at 85 - I am also a ginger Celt - not only am I not physically / genetically evolved / adapted to survive in this climate - I don’t think I can do it mentally or emotionally either.

A few weeks ago a cinema chain gave out free tickets to us gingers as we are at high risk of turning to a crisp!!

Sorry to tell you but it's hot in Scotland too. It's exhausting

quicklybeendrivenmad · 14/08/2022 16:13

Sorry loving the heat, sitting in the garden, dip in cool tub, bbq with salad for tea like being on holiday but without the cost

Nadal · 14/08/2022 16:13

I long for my duvet back

tobee · 14/08/2022 16:15

I don't mind it! Much prefer it to rainy, chilly summers. And it's less humid than the other week in the 40 degree heat. Had to turn the heating in August on holidays in Britain before.

It's not going to last much longer I don't think. Probably be rain every day when I go on holiday to Wales beginning of September. Not much I can do about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

thesunwillout · 14/08/2022 16:15

I got in my oven car and drove to Costa for the Aircon followed by supermarket.

feellikeanalien · 14/08/2022 16:16

I actually feel like this has been generally not that great a summer.

The last week has been lovely and then there were the two unbearably hot days. Other than that it seems to have been unrelenting grey mildness and it's going to return to that next week according to the weather forecast (I'm in the NE of England).

I know that the country has been quite split on this and my family near Birmingham have had it a lot worse but I'm just sitting in the garden now enjoying the last of the sun and blue sky.

I'm also pissed off that nettles seem to thrive in the heat!!

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 14/08/2022 16:17

When I was younger I loved the heat - remember buying jars of coconut oil from the chemist to get a tan ( absolutely no protection). Now I find it so hard to regulate my temperature. Thank you menopause! I have felt quite sick at times, had very little energy & slept badly. Work is really tough as we don’t have air con, only fans on the tills. Lucky enough to live near the sea but I haven’t been to the beach much as they get rammed. Hoping to go more in September when some of the tourists bugger off! Sympathy to anyone else struggling.

rainbowdaz · 14/08/2022 16:18

Arghh can't stand it anymore.

It's either sticky, sweaty days out. Exhausting. Baby crying, running after the other one, Ice melts in our water bottles, sun bearing on our faces. Smelly congested roads and baked tarmac.

Or it's stay indoors with the curtains closed, watching life go by. Driving each other mad.

Some tolerable weather please!!

Crotonifolia · 14/08/2022 16:18

I'm in the central belt of Scotland, and it's still too warm for me. Thoughts and prayers with everyone getting the high high temps. It's saying it's 25 here today (feels warmer) but so humid, looking forward to rain later.

NinaBalatka · 14/08/2022 16:18

I love the heat and will be very, very sorry when it ends. It's my dream summer.

DangerouslyBored · 14/08/2022 16:19

I’m built for the winter. My inner thermometer runs much hotter than other people. I absolutely loathe this awful, oppressive weather. Fortunate to have air con and we have a decent paddling pool yet I still cannot bear this horrible heat. The dogs look fed up it’s too hot to play, too hot for lovely long walks. I’m 8 months pregnant so can’t even drink rose in the sun to make me feel a bit better.

Roll on Halloween 🎃 I absolutely love autumn. I don’t even care if it rains loads. At least we can get outside in the right clothes. Can’t do anything in this shitty weather.

girlfriend44 · 14/08/2022 16:19

Love it. Favourite Season.

rainbowdaz · 14/08/2022 16:19

I also noticed some trees having crispy leaves. My potted flowers dried up but mature leaves crisping over like autumn, running out of groundwater, is quite bad, isn't it?

123sunshine · 14/08/2022 16:22

I’ve spent the weekend packing and cleaning to move home next week. It’s really not fun In this heat but have no option but to keep ploughing on.

Love it. Favourite Season.

Me too. I loathe Autumn and Winter. Jumpers, wet leaves, dark nights and Halloween can fuck right off.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 14/08/2022 16:26

Yep. Haven't slept properly for days. In a flat so no shady garden to enjoy and can't be bothered to go and find somewhere today to sit out in.

I've been watching some scaffolders out the window working away and just don't understand how they can do it but hats off to them!! (Hats on would be more sensible obvs). They seem happy as Larry singing along to the radio though - you either love it or hate it I guess

Bubbafly · 14/08/2022 16:26

Bring on the Winter, cannot wait! I love the dark evenings and a roaring fire.

reesewithoutaspoon · 14/08/2022 16:27

Spent the day in a damp t shirt. rewetting and wringing it out each time it dries. only way I could stay cool

BellePeppa · 14/08/2022 16:28

I’d rather have this than the freezing, wet and windy weather of our long, dark winters. I have no energy but at least my face isn’t it’s usual screwed up, aged look it gets when I’m freezing.

HesterShaw1 · 14/08/2022 16:28

We've been warned about this for years. Most people shrugged.

DoubleGauze · 14/08/2022 16:29

We're feeling it too. Our flat is on the 11th floor , in the middle of a big city and it's ridiculously hot. We adults don't cope well , but our main concern is for our youngest . He's autistic and non verbal and gets so frustrated that he starts to run around and make himself even hotter. He also cannot sleep in this weather which makes him more irritable. We're constantly getting him drinks and cold snacks and he's having 2 cool baths per day. I slept in the living room with him last night (it's cooler and more open) and he managed just 5 hours.

BellaLab · 14/08/2022 16:29

I’m loving it, the hotter the better for me. I’m soaking up every last second as I loathe winter. I much prefer long hot sunny days wearing flip flops and summer dresses than shitty dark nights, having to wrap up when you go out and the cold.

BellaLab · 14/08/2022 16:30
