moljam, BIG BIG difference in calling someone a name in virtual reality than making a loud comment in a public place whie said fat person is walking past!

OP posts:
captainmummy · 22/01/2008 18:01

Actually smee I agree with moljam - ok so the boney wife laughed but it was the knobhead husband who made the rude jibe! The poor wife didn't do anything (excpet laugh) and she is the one getting called names too.
Having siad that there is no excuse for rudeness, and i'm for you.

Knowing that there are so many people who think they're entitled to make nasty comments on others appearances makes me very sad indeed.

smeeinit · 22/01/2008 18:09

captainmummy "The poor wife didn't do anything (excpet laugh) and she is the one getting called names too" have you actually read the whole thread?

and just to clarify i havent actually called the woman boney.

OP posts:
smeeinit · 22/01/2008 18:11

well said chequers, to me her laughing along was as bad as what he said.
their poor children are being taught that this is the way to behave.

OP posts:
smeeinit · 22/01/2008 18:14

that i read captainmummys post as "shes the only one being called names" sorry!

OP posts:
MicrowaveOnly · 22/01/2008 18:14

agree with everyone about poor OP and idiots who say nasty things, and so seeing as everyone is being so nice and agreeing for once .....I feel forced to say something mildly controversial. You know the phrase that REALLY winds me up as a skinny....

....OP ",im overweight because i have an eating disorder "

WTF OP you do not have a 'disorder' say it like it is, you like eating!!!!!

Why is everything turned into an illness or medical condition these days. If you eat you get fat. full stop....sigh

captainmummy · 22/01/2008 18:14

Smee - I have read the whole thread and I am shocked on your behalf, and I know that you haven't called her bony, but my point is that she didn't actually do anything (yes other than encourage a bully..) and she is also getting flamed. She might have to put up with it, maybe he is also a wife-beater....Maybe that's why she's so thin?Nervous maybe? Anyway, I am not defending her, just pointing out that calling you names for your weight and calling her names for her weight are no different.

shabster · 22/01/2008 18:15

I am often likened to Dawn French. It has taken me many years to get to the point where I think ' you dear shabster are ok.'On holiday in Rhodes this drunken bloke came up to me at the bar and said 'I've watched you swimming for hours and i dont know how you manage to do all that with the weight you are carrying.' I turned to him and said 'in 14 days I will be going home to Manchester having had a wonderful time. You are going to have a crap holiday if you worry about my fat arse all the time.' I got a round of applause from the staff and other customers. x

microwave
i have an eating disorder, ive been bullimic and anorexic(and close to death) and now im obese.
i can only assume you have come on this thread to "pick a fight" with your childish uneducated comments..........

OP posts:
MicrowaveOnly · 22/01/2008 18:45

no, not to pick a fight...to redress the balance, yabu to moan about someone being rude and then laughingly comment:

"saff, yes wifey was a sad salad eater, said wankery bloke was a bald ugly twat"

and yabu to say

CAN I JUST ADD THAT THE BONY WIFE DID ACTUALLY LAUGH AT WANKY MANS COMMENT......

AnneMayesR · 22/01/2008 18:49

I would not have dignified Microwaveonly's comment with a response but here I go anyway.

Lots of anorexics and bulimics develop obesity because their eating disorder screws up their metabolism so bad. This is not easily reversed without the help of dieticians, nutrionists etc.

When you don't eat properly your body goes into startvation mode and stores EVERYTHING as fat. Everything. So instead of having energy as a result of the calories you consume like a normal person does every think gets stored by the body. It is a defense mechanism that the body does to help cope if their is future famine or self inflicted starvation.

This is why extreme crash dieters put on so much weight and get fat once they start eating 3 small healthy meals a day, once again, instead of nothing but lettuce once a day.

MicrowaveOnly · 22/01/2008 18:51

it seems ok to slag off skinny people and then get upset and self righteous about being insulted for being overweight.

why does being pc only work one way?

Are you overweight in a way that people would/might/but shouldn't comment because I don't remember so.

MicrowaveOnly · 22/01/2008 19:05

"to accuse somebody of suffering from an imaginary mental illness."

No, I did not...in fact the opposite. I asked Why being fat and enjoying food and eating is an 'eating disorder'.

you are being rather agressive and rude chequers.

the fact is plenty of overweight people say they have eating disorders as they feel they have to 'excuse' their situation. In fact I am 'educated' enough to know far more people claim they have 'big bones', 'fat genes' or some other medical explanation when they do not. In fact the majority.
Now we cannot all tiptoe around mumsnet terrified that the person we are posting to has a mental illness, its not realistic.

I thought AnneMay explained it well.
