To wonder why some people really enjoy this heat?

I’m sweating, I feel anxious, I’ve got a headache and I feel sick. This is what this kind of heat does to me. It’s like torture. There’s no way to cool down properly, unlike in the winter when you can warm up with a blanket and hot water bottle.

I’m actually wondering if it’s a genetic thing. Feels like some people actually enjoy laying in this heat out in the sunshine.

Thanks @SunscreenCentral that's a good idea.

I’m off work this week so I’m enjoying it but it’s hard going when have to work long days in the heat. It does make a change to have nice
weather for most of the summer holidays. I’m having a clear out and it’s handy to be able to leave things in the garden without risk of rain. That said my poor garden is desperate for some rain.

I don't understand when people say they can't cool down tbh. If you have access to a fridge then you have ice cold water, rathe than the hot water I've been having to drink while on the road.

@YesJess Maybe you could take a flask of chilled water with ice in with you? That will stay cool for ages. On holiday we will often put a bottle of water in the freezer and take the frozen bottle out with us. It gradually melts and is gloriously cold while it does.

I don't want to take a Thermos on holiday but it works out the same. It tides us over until we can buy more cold water at a taverna/shop.

I'd like the heat a lot more if I wasn't pale freckly and flabby.

I work with dogs so more often than not,y jobs are cancelled when it's hot.

Not great financially but it does mean I get to relax without doing too much rushing about!

I am loving the sun and the light evenings but wouldn’t mind it hovering around 26 rather than 30. A warm spring or autumn is my favourite time rather than summer but it is nice to not have things rained off at the moment . I would take the heat over rain and grey. January is my absolute worst month. I also don’t like it once the clocks change in October and you know the nights are drawing in. I find it feels a bit depressing picking up my children from after school club in the dark knowing they’ve had to stay inside whereas in summer they are just playing freely.

Who isn't finding darkness at 5pm depressing?

I don't! I love the dark, it's so exciting.

Yeah, me too - I love it.

I'm definitely a night owl though.

Bring on the cosy evenings & hot water bottles!

I also love the dark evenings and the nights drawing in.

At the moment the only thing keeping me going is checking the sunrise and sunset times each day on my BBC weather app and seeing them change to later sunrise and earlier sunset! Grin

I do this too 😊

Too hot! Toooo hoooooot. 🥵

waterlego · 13/08/2022 00:01

Ooooh, I didn’t really realise people enjoyed short daylight hours! I like winter weather but not the loss of daylight.

I don’t like the heat at all. Max 25 degrees is my comfort zone. But I love the long days! I live 5 mins from the beach and can usually be found sitting there with my dog most summer evenings till 9-10pm watching the sun set and the moon rise. I love summer evenings but not these sweltering hot days. Maybe I should move to Scandinavia?

waterlego · 13/08/2022 00:01

Couldn’t cope with all the darknesses in winter though!

waterlego · 13/08/2022 00:02

Ignore extra *ess. I’ve had a few ales. (On the beach) 😬
