To wonder why some people really enjoy this heat?

I’m sweating, I feel anxious, I’ve got a headache and I feel sick. This is what this kind of heat does to me. It’s like torture. There’s no way to cool down properly, unlike in the winter when you can warm up with a blanket and hot water bottle.

I’m actually wondering if it’s a genetic thing. Feels like some people actually enjoy laying in this heat out in the sunshine.

YANBU- I find it difficult to find the motivation to do anything when it's like this.
Roll on Autumn!

Does anyone who loves it live in London? I grew up up north and don't remember ever feeling the horrible sweaty oppressive heat of a London summer. Could not understand how anyone could possibly enjoy it when I moved here and still don't, though I love almost everything else about London.

I'm in London and can't say I'm loving it. I love bright sunny days but not extreme heat. Although I will say I'm slowly acclimatising to very hot weather. I used to think late twenties was warm...now I only struggle once it gets to well over 30. I do think it's terrifying. Temperatures hitting nearly 40 in the UK is so weird.

I hate not being able to look nice. I can't bear wearing my hair down so it's up all the time. Make up just melts off. Can't wear loads of my clothes. Look a mess.

Comedycook · 11/08/2022 21:18

My house is also a disgusting tip as I struggle to get chores done in the hot weather.

lljkk · 11/08/2022 21:23

I am :( about crops, animals, environment suffering. But on personal level, I can revel in the heat. I "feel" the cold quite bad 8 months of the year.

Laiste · 11/08/2022 21:27

Love it.
Love wearing little when out, even less indoors and wandering about in flip flops or nothing. Just taking everything a little slower - there seems to be more time.

i love that everything is clean and dry.
No mud, no damp, no mess, no piles of bloody coats and shoes in the hall.
I love the blue sky. The light. The long days. The windows open. The smell of the air. Light food. Light apatite. Woken up naturally by a slow sunrise and bird song instead of a bloody alarm in the pitch dark feeling as if it's the middle of the night.

I DETEST the winter. The grey. The damp. The same miserable half light from morning to dusk. The cold. The dark. Pale blotchy skin. Loads more clothes to clean and put away. Short days with no motivation beyond keeping warm or eating. Freezing hands. Frost on the cars. Slippery ice. Muddy shoes. Cold cold cold.

I've felt like this my whole life. When i went to see an acupuncturist a few years ago the guy told me according to his teachings i was a person who must never let the cold and damp 'in'. I need heat!

@MeridasMum I suppose I just can’t understand how people enjoy sweating and feeling hugely overheated.

I guess that like with many other aspects of existence we are all different. That doesn't minimise your right to dislike it but we're all different.

Friars23 · 11/08/2022 21:32

On one level I don’t like it, I sweat, burn and don’t do great in the heat, but on the other hand I enjoy the change as it’s still only a few days a year the U.K. gets this hot. If I was by water I would like it a lot more! If I had the choice of a grey, low temp summer and more heat like now I would take this.

Florenz · 11/08/2022 21:33

I love it in the daytime, not so much at night. But I'd love it if it was this hot all the time instead of being cold and rainy.

LaughingCat · 11/08/2022 21:34

I don’t feel sweated and overheated, just nicely warm. I don’t really feel cold either in winter. Maybe I’m a lizard person and forgot. 🤔

Yes.

The thing is it is too hot, and I enjoy the fact it's too hot. Finding successful ways to cool yourself down is up there as one of life's pleasures like wrapping yourself in a duvet when it's freezing and getting warm is. The difference with the heat joy is that it's super fleeing in this country.

I'd rather live in the country I'm from tbh, the weather in this country is shite by and large but it's not that simple unfortunately. Where my sister lives it's 32 most of the year, summer or winter

Pruella · 11/08/2022 21:37

I love sunshine but I’m in London, have to get the tube to the office and don’t have air conditioning. So it’s too hot for me at the moment. 25 is perfect for me.

Saturday I really need to go to the shops (20 mins walk) and I’m dreading it. So that’s an inconvenience too.

FrasierCraneDay · 11/08/2022 21:40

Adore it during the day, night times are pretty uncomfortable. I live in a mid terrace, my garden and all the windows are south facing. If only there was a way to store the heat for the winter, it's currently 29 degrees in my living room

balalake · 11/08/2022 21:52

It's not the heat its the humidity I don't like.

PoolSquid · 11/08/2022 21:56

But I do think at least in winter there's the option to wrap up if you are cold in the summer there's nothing you can do to escape the heat

Only people who don't like the heat think this. I find it much harder to warm up if I'm cold, like a pp said, sometimes only a hot bath seems to work. I can cope fine up to around 40 degrees though, no issue keeping cool at all.

OneTC · 11/08/2022 21:58

Yeah that's been the unusual thing for this year hasn't it, super low humidity for a UK summer. Funnily enough it's been the mid 20s days that have been more typical, humidity wise

Dalaidramailama · 11/08/2022 22:00

@OneTC

Super low humidity? Someone needs to tell my tits that.

I do like a nice long hot summer, but it has really got to me this year. Too hot, too humid, not enough rain, (drought/hosepipe ban etc,) too many animals and birds and fish and crops suffering, and I just feel so listless!

CBA to do anything. I do like the sun and the warmth in summer, but these 30 C+ temperatures can get tae fuck now. 24-25 C will do ta muchly Mother Nature, and 12 C or so at night with 3 or 4 hours rain.

YANBU @Reflectionson

OneTC · 11/08/2022 22:04

Yeah summers are normally stickier than this though, where I am in England anyway, if it was humid we'd be having regular rain breaks wouldn't we? I don't know tbh, off to Google Grin

TinaTeaspoons · 11/08/2022 22:07

Whoever said they think the people struggling are just obese. No.
I'm 8 stone so just don't even try that one. It's just unbearably hot and uncomfortable whatever some people want to say here.

YouLookinSusBro · 11/08/2022 22:15

Because I don’t feel sweaty and overheated. I feel good.

In cooler temperatures, my hands turn blue, my joints hurt like hell and I sit hunched over shivering and miserable. In this weather I feel comfortable with very little pain and no goosebumps. I’m not having to resort to layers of blankets and scalding baths to warm up. Right now I’m outside in the shade in a t-shirt and cotton skirt, feeling like I’m finally at a comfortable temperature - which happens very rarely!.

Totally this, thanks @TeaStory , summed it up well. The cold plays havoc with my physical and mental health. I'm loving this weather so much.

hyperspacebug · 11/08/2022 22:19

Not sure if anyone here mentioned- glorious summer evenings with sunlight still on. Who isn't finding darkness at 5pm depressing?

As long as indoors is around 25C, I am good.
Slow pace, having appetite for light and fresh food instead of cooking fatty food, happy kids splashing around with water, not worrying they are underdressed for the weather.

It does seem like I am another one who finds too hot more bearable than too cold. I know people who are feeling the opposite though!

But it's not unbearable or uncomfortable for some of us, why is that so hard to understand?

And it really isn't humid, it's a dry heat.

Feetache · 11/08/2022 22:26

I love it except the upstairs in our house... but climate change is terrifying for our kids

BaileySharp · 11/08/2022 22:32

Yes it's too hot to be comfortable for me. I used to manage these temps on holiday but then there's usually a nice cool swimming pool and air conditioning. Our house gets so hot it's just not nice
