To wonder why some people really enjoy this heat?

I’m sweating, I feel anxious, I’ve got a headache and I feel sick. This is what this kind of heat does to me. It’s like torture. There’s no way to cool down properly, unlike in the winter when you can warm up with a blanket and hot water bottle.

I’m actually wondering if it’s a genetic thing. Feels like some people actually enjoy laying in this heat out in the sunshine.

I’m another that thinks it’s fabulous. I’m comfortable for once, instead of being permanently cold.

StaunchMomma · 11/08/2022 22:51

I'm the same, OP. I hate it and cannot wait for it to be COLD!!

I never take holidays in the sun and will be spending the heatwave indoors with all of the curtains drawn.

I realise I'm in the minority though and try not to moan about it. I suppose it's no different to how people who hate xmas feel? Like, you look like a right grinchy git if you complain about something everyone loves?

It is well and truly hideous though, isn't it?!! 😂

stillherenow · 11/08/2022 22:54

Wow I didn't think anyone was enjoying it !

stillherenow · 11/08/2022 22:55

I've barely been outside all summer 🥵. Am with you OP.

20 years ago I'd have loved it , but now, it appears I dislike summer.

stillherenow · 11/08/2022 22:56

I'm not overweight either, just 50!

springisaroundthecorner · 11/08/2022 19:47

I have SAD in summer. The heat and bright sunlight really makes me feel depressed

THIS!

I literally feel miserable the second I open the curtains and see sunshine. I just want to close them again and get back into bed.

Maybe I'm just too British? 😁

MyBrilliantFriend · 11/08/2022 23:01

Well we’re all different.

I love it. But I don’t really feel overheated or sweaty. It’s just comfortable and I love love love knowing I will wake up in the morning and the sun will still be there. My ds is the same. We are both very happy atm.

On the other hand my dh & dd both find the heat more challenging and would prefer it to be a few degrees cooler.

TinaTeaspoons · 11/08/2022 23:03

Well maybe I am a freak of nature then for finding 33C london heat unbearable. @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/08/2022 23:08

I didn't say that, @TinaTeaspoons, but those of us who enjoy it aren't "freaks" either. We just find different things pleasurable! Your previous post implied that we're either lying or deluded if we say we enjoy the heat!!

Lapland123 · 11/08/2022 23:09

I’m sure I’d enjoy it more if I lost 3 stone

ridemesideway · 11/08/2022 23:10

I like the heat. I love throwing on a light dress or shorts and a pair of flip flops. No need for socks or layers like in winter. It’s just so much easier, can have a line of laundry dry in an hour.
Slap on the SPF50 and a hat and I’m good to go. I’m lucky to live near a beach too so I fling myself into the waves. It’s great.

I don’t mind sweating, a shower and a change of clothes sorts that.

Goldencarp · 11/08/2022 23:10

I’m the opposite. I absolutely love the heat. If it was like this every day I’d be happy. I wish the nights were a bit cooler though.

i absolutely hate the cold weather. My mood dips dramatically and I just feel like crap all the time.

Lapland123 · 11/08/2022 23:11

I understand the posters that say they get SAD in summer! I don’t feel that extreme, but am quite fed up at the moment and the heat and light aren’t helping matters! I’m longing for some dark evenings and rainfall

Legomania · 11/08/2022 23:13

I'm always the one shivering in a jacket when everyone else is in shorts and a tshirt. Bloody love getting my summer dresses out!

Don’t worry, there’ll be around 8 months of that.😂

Cats23 · 11/08/2022 23:21

Hate it!

avamiah · 11/08/2022 23:35

I personally cannot stand this heatwave we are having and I’m in London and it’s extremely hot and very uncomfortable.

Yes, I know when we go on holidays we love the hot weather but that’s because we don’t have work to go to and can wake up at lunchtime and put on a kaftan and drink wine and sit on the balcony or by the pool and our bedroom would would usually ( hopefully) be air conditioned.

Thats the difference for me .😥

PicturesOfDogs · 11/08/2022 23:38

On top of the hot baths in winter, I’ve also been known to slather on the tiger balm/deep heat when the cold gets in me. Nothing shifts it.
I’m loving life right now!
I get SAD in the winter, nothing more depressing to me than leaving the house and it’s black, and by the time you leave it’s black again.
Especially when it was dark at school pick up 😩
Give me long summer evenings, and not having to wear a coat or even a jumper. Bliss

Changemaname1 · 11/08/2022 23:49

It’s not that hot where I am 28 ish I think today ?! Been lovely been out and about with work today then to a beer garden with friends so yes I’m enjoying it ! Nice days with the dc while off work earlier this week enjoying the garden and park etc . Nice to actually have a summer with some reliable weather

I am not someone who lays about in the sun though ! I Always wear SPF, don’t tan and always seek the shade but it’s just nice to feel the warmth and look out at clear blue skies !!

the 40 degree heatwave the other week however was utter torture without aircon 😢🤣

CatLadyDrinksGin · 11/08/2022 23:57

Im a human prawn, my skin goes from grey to red with nothing in between. Hate sitting in direct
sunlight most of the year, it hurts and I know I’ll burn instantly. Neighbour who’s parents and before are from warmer countries hates the cold and says she isn’t built for British winters. I do wonder if heat/sun tolerance is partly a skin tone/genetic heritage thing, if you have some natural melatonin presumably your skin doesn’t hurt in the sunlight as much as mine and you can sunbathe in a recliner without actually sizzling like a vampire.

I don’t mind warmth if I’m inside or in deep shade- it’s the sunlight I can’t tolerate. Would love to be one of those people lying back in a bikini in full sun, paperback in hand….

TheOGCCL · 12/08/2022 00:04

I don’t tend to sweat, and in the winter am always freezing. I realise how much lower my baseline temperature is compared to many people when there’s all this complaining about hot it is.

middleager · 12/08/2022 00:05

I'm with you OP. I absolutely hate it. Anything over 25 is too much. I just can't tolerate more than 10 mins in the sun. Never have been able to.

I holiday in this country in the summer, but if I didn't have kids, I'd stay at home with the curtains drawn instead!

Roll on Autumn, my favourite time.

diamondpony80 · 12/08/2022 00:06

I love it when I’m on holidays and have nothing else to think about. I don’t enjoy it right now though as I have work & kids to keep entertained. The heat is stressing me out!

SunscreenCentral · 12/08/2022 00:14

MotherofPearl · 11/08/2022 15:44

Don't worry OP, you're not alone. I'm really struggling too. No matter how much water I drink I can't shift my low level headache, and I dread having to leave the comfort of my relatively cool house. I am counting the days until the end of the heatwave.

Try taking some Diorltye (sorry spelling- the chemist will know) or similar rehydration.

SunscreenCentral · 12/08/2022 00:32

It's glorious 🙌🏼🌞

the endless dark grey windy wet will be back soon just re-fold your jumpers and scarves til then
