He deconstructed my knitting pile.

I am sure I am not being unreasonable here. But here goes.

My partner does a hobby which involves him being out late alot. I asked him a few nights ago if he could skip one so as to spend some more time with him.

He wasnt happy and expressed that I had my hobby that I do every night! (Knitting) but I do this in house. I don't go out to any groups etc. He stayed home. We watched a movie. All good. Went to bed.

Got up this morning and my entire knitting pile (was knitting a cardi and socks for a friend) had been unwound and was sitting in neat balls of wool! I'm absolutely astounded. AIBU to think there is no need for this behaviour for the sake of a night off.

Yes I have so far untuned his guitar, hidden the picks and thrown his music in the outdoor compost bin and am currently packing his bags whilst he has gone to work. It's my house thank god. He's gone.

I would change the locks too.

Well done for standing up to him and getting rid, this would have been the beginning of much worse.

SleepingAgent · 05/08/2022 10:35

I’ve read so many threads on mumsnet about crap partners but weirdly this is one of the worst. It wasn’t something done or shouted in the heat of the moment- he calmly sat there and unwound it all neatly to punish you. He wanted to punish you because he thought you deserved it.

Yes this. Screams controlling and nasty nasty nasty!!! Heading towards sociopathic frankly.

One of my very few LTB awards.

LindaEllen · 05/08/2022 10:36

Sorry but that would be it for me. I don't need or want to live with someone with such a mean streak.

HogwartsForever11 · 05/08/2022 10:36

I’d be tempted to deconstruct his face I think

Thornethorn · 05/08/2022 10:38

He's come unravelled, hasn't he.

You're better off apart.

mumda · 05/08/2022 10:38

So what is his hobby?
What on earth can be that important!

Ah cross post as I was typing - well done you OP!!

And I hope every single woman he ever meets from now on is on here and reads this so when he talks about his "psycho ex" who chucked him out over "some knitting" knows exactly who he is and dumps the fucker on the first date too.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 05/08/2022 10:38

I'd be de-constructing his clothes with a stitch cutter: a sleeve here, trouser seam there and buttons off shirts. Then pack them nicely.

OnaBegonia · 05/08/2022 10:38

That's beyond horrible, LTB

SarahSissions · 05/08/2022 10:39

That he has “punished you” is wrong and bizarre. But that he has doled out this punishment because you wanted to spend time with him is just fucking horrible.
What an absolute bastard

Thatswhyimacat · 05/08/2022 10:40

Wow. Just wow. I was reading the OP critically like OK, I wonder how often he goes to his hobby, how long OP sits knitting etc etc...

Then just...wow. I've never read anything like that. That is bordering sociopathic and I'm glad you are getting him GONE.

Nugg · 05/08/2022 10:40

He unwound your knitting!? Wow. That's another level of petty malicious abusiveness!!

AluckyEllie · 05/08/2022 10:40

Hurrah that’s satisfying. Definitely change the locks. Where will he go, does he have a house? What age is he? It’s bizarre! Have you been together or living together long?

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 05/08/2022 10:40

It’s like something that you’d expect to find in a really tense thriller about a relationship with a psychotic man. One of the early on scenes that lead up to the trying to murder her and the desperate attempt to escape.

rightonthyme · 05/08/2022 10:40

This has made me really sad OP. What a spiteful thing for him to do to you. As someone who likes crafting, if someone undid my work I'd be furious.

torquewench · 05/08/2022 10:40

Does his hobby require equipment? If so, what?

TaffyToffee · 05/08/2022 10:40

This is awful! I came to this thread expecting you to say it had been tidied by someone trying and failing to be helpful.

It really is time to leave this relationship.

Musti · 05/08/2022 10:41

What a malicious bastard.

100% agree with this, and not just because I'm a knitter! What a thoroughly unpleasant human being he must be. Best wishes for a much happier future without this miserable excuse for a partner. Flowers

That behaviour was cold blooded and spiteful.
Well done you for chucking him out. Found all the money?
Very Best Wishes
What a great story to tell possible new blokes.

Bonheurdupasse · 05/08/2022 10:41

OP

If you can change the locks before he's back from work, do - and just leave his stuff / bags outside.

Otherwise please have someone with you in the house for when he comes. He seems quite likely to become violent if he feels himself otherwise powerless (such as being kicked out of your house).

TirisfalPumpkin · 05/08/2022 10:42

He frogged your cardigan?

I've got no words. The kind of mindset to undo hours of work like that. My ex once threw a handknitted jumper in a hot wash (to teach me not to ask him to do the laundry again) but this is on another level of evil and calculating.

You're well rid, leave a stitch marker in his shoe.

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 05/08/2022 10:43

I don’t think I’d bother trying to sabotage any of his stuff. I’d concentrate on getting the stuff in bags. Putting them outside. And getting the locks changed.

There’s no need for revenge. Just getting this alarming man out of your house and out of your life is more than enough.

butterflied · 05/08/2022 10:43

MappyDappy · 05/08/2022 10:17

Nope. He said, well I couldn't do mine last night now you can't either. I've also just noticed he's moved the needles. Utter wanker.

He's a spiteful cunt. I would never be able to look at him the same. So petty and mean. I hope you get away from that.

Pinkywoo · 05/08/2022 10:43

If you have a uPVC door here's how to change the locks yourself, maybe knit a little key and hang it on the door handle!
