The idiot has put ‘the lionesses have only gone and done it and Kelly is England’s heroine bra none’. Why did he feel the need for a sexist quip about the goal celebration? So embarrassing.

She ran around Wembley in her bra. It wasn't unreasonable to mention it. Slightly immature, but not unreasonable.

Holidayaddict · 01/08/2022 07:48

Meh! Bra-vo to her!

More offended by the male members of our work whatsapp group posting kitchen sink memes all night, but even then, meh!!

toomuchlaundry · 01/08/2022 07:49

Where are all the threads complaining about the actual sexist comments made about the team?

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 01/08/2022 07:52

Slightly off the point but a great advertising opportunity for the makers of her bra, (I know she didn’t do it for that reason but still!)

JanetheObscure · 01/08/2022 07:52

It’s a play on words about a sports bra. That’s all.

Added to which, male footballers wear something very similar these days, to hold a fitness tracking device.

JasmineVioletRose · 01/08/2022 07:53

Aside from the unnecessary shit joke, I am still unclear why all the Gary hate? Please tell me?

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 01/08/2022 07:53

It’s a shit Dad joke that’s frankly embarrassing but I don’t think it’s sexiest.

Jesus. Do you not have an HR dept?

It’s casual sexism from someone who is supposed to be a respected player and pundit. He should have just taken the opportunity to say well done and not made it all about her underwear. Do we really have to keep dismissing this stuff?

Shortly before she did it I actually said ‘I don’t like football but at least the women won’t take their shirts off!’ 😁🤔

No it wasn't casual sexism. It was funny. Women don't do themselves any favours when they get offended over nothing.

He is a Remainer so people don't like him. And he earns a lot of money. "Metropolitan elite" innit?

AhNowTed · 01/08/2022 08:03

She showed her bra.

He made a pun about it.

Nothing to see here.

toomuchlaundry · 01/08/2022 07:49

Exactly this. I suspect if you dare to look at the BBC have your say section there will be lots of nasty comments about it not mattering because it's only women and they don't play properly blah.

I'm not a football fan and didn't watch it, but it's great for womens' sport. Maybe the media will give it more space now. The Saturday Times has about 16 pages in its sport section - it usually manages about half a page on womens' sport. That's something to get offended about (and I do).

Wheresthebeach · 01/08/2022 08:05

He sounds like a 13yr old boy. He could have praised them, instead he went for a pathetic sniggering comment.

She chose to take her shirt off and show her sports bra, nothing wrong with her doing that but it's her choice. He made a play on words about it. Nothing wrong with that either. Some people will cry sexism at anything ffs.

BellePeppa · 01/08/2022 08:09

SpidersAreShitheads · 01/08/2022 01:35

@TempNameChangexx

This is an excellent point.

Taking your shirt off is always a bookable offence, and she's bloody lucky that the whole thing didn't go tits up with a second yellow card.

😂

😂 Now now you might upset the OP with such comments. Honestly it’s no wonder I struggle with my fellow women sometimes, their po faced lack of humour and taking everything so seriously does us no favours.

lljkk · 01/08/2022 08:09

I found GL's tweet hilarious.
Dunno if he's twat or not (tend to think not, actually), but it was a perfect pun.

Come on. She chose to recklessly, deliriously get yellow card for that stunt. Tsk Tsk. It was a notable moment in the match, though (bit like Earp on desk at press conference, and Scott's "F'ing Bitch!" shout). At least GL found great humour in a moment we all wanted to indulge Kelly for.

The only commentary (tweet) on Lionesses I have found truly repulsive was a white supremecist one that wandered into my feed. Any men commenting on women footie being different from men's game is otherwise part of a process in my eyes.

Can't find the tweet now that had drawn mustaches on Lionesses asking if they could all play for men's side now. I wonder who is going to howl protest at that one.

Wheresthebeach · 01/08/2022 08:05

Which is his style of tweeting - for both male and female players. He's always making daft jokes and puns. You don't have to like his inane jokes, but that's a different argument from claiming that he's sexist. He hasn't singled her out because she's a woman FFS.

And if you look back you'll find that Lineker has a very long history of supporting, and very vocally promoting women's football. He's a huge advocate and ally for women's sport.

ancientgran · 01/08/2022 08:10

He didn't make it all about her underwear or can you only read the last two words in his post?

luckylavender · 01/08/2022 08:12

I really can't see how anyone can object to this. Lineker is a huge advocate of the women's game.

You are right. I think some want us put back in Victorian times, mentioning a ladies underwear? How horrific, men shouldn't know such things exist.

Well if you go looking for something to object to you have to find something.

Simonjt · 01/08/2022 08:08

@Simonjt - exactly this.

The ones slamming Lineker for not supporting the women really do need to take a proper look at his tweets before ripping into something they clearly know nothing about.

You don't have to like him but he's always made a point of being a very vocal supporter of female footballers and women's sport.

MintyDogBreath · 01/08/2022 08:16

I used to fit bras and I am very concerned that she’s not wearing a well fitting, supportive one.
