To think Lineker should apologise for his tweet

The idiot has put ‘the lionesses have only gone and done it and Kelly is England’s heroine bra none’. Why did he feel the need for a sexist quip about the goal celebration? So embarrassing.

Will this thread get deleted too if we don’t agree with the OP? I’m assuming he wouldn’t have used the phrase bra none if she hadn’t run round the pitch in her bra.

He he is advocate for women’s football and probably has done more for their game than most of the people complaining about his tweet!

It’s casual sexism from someone who is supposed to be a respected player and pundit. He should have just taken the opportunity to say well done and not made it all about her underwear. Do we really have to keep dismissing this stuff?

But it was in context. She showed her bra. He tweeted it. I’m not sure how that’s sexist.

THEDEACON · 01/08/2022 00:46

Oh for any favour get over yourself

Wetblanket78 · 01/08/2022 00:47

It's just banter you never heard of something called a sense of humour?

Wetblanket78 · 01/08/2022 00:48

Exactly when she did it I thought WTF is she doing?

LovelyYellowLabrador · 01/08/2022 00:51

What a creep
he should delete

toomuchlaundry · 01/08/2022 00:53

Why @LovelyYellowLabrador?

DarkDarkNight · 01/08/2022 00:54

It would be casual sexism if she hadn’t taken her top off exposing her bra. As she ran around in a sports bra it was perfectly acceptable tweet.

There's nothing to be offended about. Don't be ridiculous. She did strip down to her bra. It was high jinx. She was also yellow carded for it, though I don't see why personally.

No need to look for offence to take.

Because you're not meant to take your top off or even pull up the front and put it over your head. The men get a yellow card for it too

ParanoidGynodroid · 01/08/2022 00:55

I thought it was quite funny. She showed her (large and and modest) bra off, he made a pun about it.
What's wrong with mentioning bras?

KalvinPhillipsBoots · 01/08/2022 00:55

Get a grip OP and stop trying to make a point by being offended at nothing.🙄

AuntTwacky · 01/08/2022 00:57

Get your bras in a row

Youhaveyourhandsfull · 01/08/2022 00:58

It was a joke kidding her about taking her shirt off and wearing only her bra after her goal.

rnsaslkih · 01/08/2022 01:01

She celebrated in her bra

the tweet made reference to that

the tweet seems ok to me

i don’t know anything about his character.

Absolutely this ^^ Gary Lineker has been a staunch advocate and very vocal supporter of women's football for a very long time. Way before it started to gain traction with the public.

He quite often posts what are intended to be humorous quips or puns etc on the games he's watching, which are usually men's matches. This is no different.

A female player taking her top off to leg it around the pitch in just her sports bra is quite an unusual event in women's football. Ergo - being an unusual occurrence, he's made a pun. That's literally all it is.

Actually, what would be sexist is to treat women differently. An integral part of football is the jokes and fun element - have you not seen the headlines, tweets, comments etc aimed at male players over the years?? This is absolutely in keeping with the spirit of the game, and it's beyond ridiculous to suggest that it's sexist. And I consider myself to be an ardent and active feminist.

Also, just so you know it's not one way traffic - many years ago during his playing days, Lineker shit himself on the pitch. He was unwell with a diarrhoea bug and couldn't make it off the pitch.

If you're not a football fan, you won't be aware that Lineker is one of our greatest male strikers of all time. His record is exceptional - he's the 4th highest English male striker of all time. But do you know what people regularly mention to him? Yep, that's right. The time he did a poo on the pitch. And he takes it in good spirits, and has even joked about it himself. Shit happens (see - pun??!).

There was a dog that got loose on a football pitch during a match once, and the dog did a poo on the pitch. Lineker tweeted the video clip of the dog having a poo along with the caption "always good to see clips of my playing days". Humour.

Today was a momentous occasion for women's sports in this country. Doesn't mean we can't have a joke about things too.

Absolutely 100%.

A random reference to her underwear would be creepy and inappropriate.

Making a pun because the player took her shirt off and ran around in her bra - and got booked for it - makes it entirely fair game and reasonable. Women don't generally whip their shirts off during matches, it's a moment that will be remembered.

Nightlystroll · 01/08/2022 01:19

If anyone else had said it, I wouldn't care. But he's a vile pig so I'm happy for him to be condemned for breathing never mind saying something.
