AIBU to shove this paper plate up the Vinted seller’s arse?

VintedShminted · 25/07/2022 20:22

Ordered some Nike Air Jordan’s for my DD’s birthday from Vinted.

The package arrived today, except what I actually received was a folded up paper plate in a tiny mailing bag.

Please reassure me that I haven’t lost all my money because I can’t afford to get her anything else. Have just reported to Vinted. I know on eBay it’s easy enough for sellers to scam people by sending an empty box or whatever so I’m hoping this isn’t the same.

@Mollyplop999 sorry this happened to you too. Welcome to the fabulous Paper Plate Club. Have you had any response from Vinted?

@upliftingtwisting yes I think that’s the idea of the scam. Probably very carefully timed for this time of year at the start of the holidays when people will be going away. I ordered a couple of things just before I went to Glastonbury and one of them didn’t turn up until I had already gone so could neither confirm nor deny that everything was ok. So Vinted automatically left feedback saying everything is good and paid the seller (luckily it was fine). But if it hadn’t have been fine I’d have lost my chance to complain.

@MistressoftheDarkSide that's my theory too! Ha! To dh for mocking me now!!

The Post office weight the packet, no way a pair of trainers would weigh the same. Was it tracked?

The post office don’t necessarily weigh the item if you’re selling via Vinted. Vinted send you a label to print off. Last time I sold stuff on there, I dropped the parcels off at an automated locker thing, so no human contact needed.

Good luck OP. Vinted have been pretty good at sorting stuff out for me in the past so hopefully you’ll get a refund soon.

No matter the courier company you need to provide a weight, even if using drop off lockers- what is on the label OP?

VintedShminted · 26/07/2022 10:14

The weight on label is 99g. Whenever I’ve used Evri/Hermes I’ve weighed it myself. It’s never been weighed at the parcel shop.

Phoned the bank to dispute the transaction but they can’t do anything for 15 days from yesterday as I have to allow Vinted time to solve the issue apparently.

@VintedShminted
I am really sorry this happened to you and your daughter. Mine DD has lost money on that platform.
Are the Boots for basketball or fashion?
If it is basketball I maybe able to help with a little something.
We have a number of ND people in our family. How disappointment lands is not the same for them. Shame on those with a bee in their bonnet.

DeusInAbsentia · 26/07/2022 10:27

Vinted postage is via inpost/Evri. For those who don’t sell this is how it works.

When a item.is listed it automatically picks what the system think is the right size parcel. So small for a t shirt, medium for a hoodie and large for a pair of boots as an example.
the seller can override this of they think the wrong section has been made.

When an item sells the seller gets an email with the shipping label attached to print out. This label covers the weights selected in the original listing so in OPs case a small label up to 99 g.
In many cases the seller will then go to an InPost Locker which requires no other human interaction, just scan in the barcode on the parcel on the screen, a locker door pops open, put in your parcel and you’re done.

Vinted is a safe platform, but like eBay or any other site of its nature you need to have your wits about you. It’s easy to spot a bargain and click buy in a rush not to miss out and that’s what these people are banking on you doing. As long as you do the basic research I posted above before you buy you’re safe from this type of scam.

pinkpetunias · 26/07/2022 10:57

Aw your poor DD! I’m sure Vinted will help get your money back, I suspect they just send the paper plate so they get a tracking number to add to the sale.

As a PP said though, popular trainers are not easy to come by and especially at reduced prices. Look on stockX to get an idea of accurate pricing and purchase legitimately. It’s nearly always too good to be true otherwise. And they’re such a popular item for scammers because every young person wants them!

VintedShminted · 26/07/2022 11:05

Dd just said maybe she could cut the paper plate in half, paint pink bits on them and wear them on her feet 🤣🤣🤣

Mummyto2rugrats · 26/07/2022 11:07

Vinted are usually pretty good at responding, they don't release your money to the seller until you mark as recieved and satisfied so you should loose out financially this is one of the main reasons I prefere buying and selling on vinted.
I hope you get it sorted but photograph all proof and attach that to the details for vinted x

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 26/07/2022 11:14

I have been looking at using Vinted for selling but am very wary of buying now.

VintedShminted · 26/07/2022 11:15

@SavBbunny aww thanks that’s very kind but yes she just wanted them to look cool 😎

BruisedSkies · 26/07/2022 11:17

Just looked and there’s loads of Air Jordan’s for sale by people who have no reviews yet. Very suss coz you get a 5* auto review even if a buyer doesn’t actually leave feedback. So it must all accounts who’ve never sold anything.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/07/2022 11:42

I really hope that you get your money back, OP.

That really sucks big, hairy, donkey balls.

ThePumpkinPatch · 26/07/2022 12:01

What does being Autistic have to do with anything? Surely It would be disappointing for an NT or other ND child as well. 🙄

This! 🙄 As a Mum of a child with ASD, I'm so so sick of people using their kid's Neurodiversity as an added sympathy plea. If it's not relevant to the issue at hand - don't mention it! Have some respect for your child's privacy!

Agree with this. I never share my own ND status online, or in real life. And in this thread I don't see the relevance at all.

You’ll be fine as long as you look out for the signs of scams. Item too good to be true price wise, generic Google photos. Seller with no feedback.

Bunty55 · 26/07/2022 12:15

Another who won't use Vinted now.

Katyrosebug · 26/07/2022 12:16

I had an issue with an item I shipped once, I couldnt print the label and at the time all the shops close to me couldn't print anything either, I'm wondering if it was when they rebranded to evri, anyway, messaged the buyer to say I was just going to ship via royal mail, sent screen shots of the recipt etc.. It arrived, she signed for it and nothing. Vinted were in loved as they agreed they could see it was signed for it but there was nothing they could do about it apart from ban her until she paid. I'd imagine she just opened a new account. It was a only £15 but still! I didn't realise that a lot of scammers used the site 😔

QuestionableMouse · 26/07/2022 12:20

Same! I sold a beautiful dress a while ago, buyer claimed it hadn't been delivered despite the tracking saying it had. Also refused to do anything to help find it like check round her garden. Vinted refunded her and I had to kick up a real fuss to get them to give me any money.

Namechangehereandnow · 26/07/2022 12:20

I didn’t realise there were so many scammers either! I sell on Vinted and I love it! I feel it’s super secure due to the postage options being controlled by Vinted, tracking is there for all to see. I assume I can’t be scammed as a seller … maybe I’m wrong.

What happened to you is dreadful OP! I imagine you’ll be refunded very quickly. Has the seller relisted the item for sale? To scam others?

Lovemusic33 · 26/07/2022 12:52

I’m pretty sure vinted will sort it. It’s pretty obvious due to the weight in the parcel that it’s was done as a scam (a very poorly thought out scam), it might just take a while for them to issue a refund but I have found them to be much better than eBay.

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 26/07/2022 12:52

Not sure on which Jordans they are, or if your budget can stretch as it's an extra £30. But are these what you daughter wanted? If so this site has a size 6
