AIBU to shove this paper plate up the Vinted seller’s arse?

VintedShminted · 25/07/2022 20:22

Ordered some Nike Air Jordan’s for my DD’s birthday from Vinted.

The package arrived today, except what I actually received was a folded up paper plate in a tiny mailing bag.

Please reassure me that I haven’t lost all my money because I can’t afford to get her anything else. Have just reported to Vinted. I know on eBay it’s easy enough for sellers to scam people by sending an empty box or whatever so I’m hoping this isn’t the same.

@EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall no they didn’t post a picture, the tracking info just appeared when they printed off the label and used it.

Vinted say refunds are taking 5 days at the moment but I received a refund within 48hrs last week.

Hotpotatohotpotato1 · 25/07/2022 20:38

Same thing happened to my mum but with a piece of cardboard instead of a paper plate! Took 4/5 days to get her money back. It was super easy.

VintedShminted · 25/07/2022 20:38

@thefirstmrsrochester thank you 😊 hopefully I will too 😬

My husband had this. They sent a phone case, he reported to vinted and got his money back. You have to be very careful on vinted now with items like these I've found.
Often the listings have no writing they just have a photo and in the description they have a bunch of random letters. For example.
Jdrvsjf

The seller often is only selling trainers and their seller name is also just a bunch of random letters.

StoneofDestiny · 25/07/2022 20:39

Vinted are very good at sorting out problems. It will be clear a paper plate would not have weighed what trainers would weigh.
I've only had 1 problem with a vinted customer - they were a scammer - but it was sorted out easily. Every other sale was smooth.

StoneofDestiny · 25/07/2022 20:40

The sooner you complain, p the better, the money will not be released to them if you are not happy.

eatsleeprepeat123 · 25/07/2022 20:41

When you say received you then need to go I have issues and explain the problem with photos and you'll get refunded. The money is on hold until you click 'everything is ok'. But you have to do it within a certain time or it auto marks it as fine.

Don't worry if you say there's an issue with proof you'll get the money back :). It goes as 'pending' for the seller until marked as everything ok.

VintedShminted · 25/07/2022 20:41

@Hotpotatohotpotato1 sorry that happened to your mum too. Must be a thing! Glad to know it was easy to get a refund. Do these dumbass sellers just hope people aren’t going to be quick enough to report a problem and they get the money? Makes more sense doing this on eBay if you’re that way inclined as they’d already have the money and could just take it and run.

Make sure you leave a review, OP. I'd take great pleasure in writing that one personally! 🤬

Chillow · 25/07/2022 20:45

I hope you get a refund, OP.

I haven’t popped my Vinted cherry yet. I’ve got some leggings on there that people regularly offer £40 for but I just can’t bring myself to complete the transaction.

What if they’re scammers? I’ve been on eBay for 20+ years and can’t seem to make the switch.

VintedShminted · 25/07/2022 20:46

@lancsgirl85 I don’t seem to have that option at the moment, I think the transaction has to complete before I can do that. I’m excited for that moment. Although hopefully Vinted will boot them off. No reviews and one other item listed for sale, some other Nike trainers.

OP posts:
VintedShminted · 25/07/2022 20:50

@Chillow I’ve never listed anything on there and this is the third thing I’ve bought. The other 2 things were fine!

MerryMarigold · 25/07/2022 20:54

I don't think they release the funds to the seller unless it is all ok.

Grendalsmum · 25/07/2022 21:00

What a bugger!

If you get no joy from Vinted you can raise an issue with your bank and get the money back if you have evidence of fraud. It works with debit cards too - l've done it twice now, once with Viagogo and once with some cheating git from Facebook.

Hope your DD has a good birthday anyway!

VintedShminted · 25/07/2022 20:26

Yeah way to wreck an autistic kid’s birthday 😞

What does being Autistic have to do with anything? Surely It would be disappointing for an NT or other ND child as well. 🙄

And yes, this is fraud you have the right to a refund. I would start by contacting both your bank and the customer service team at Vinted

Mol1628 · 25/07/2022 21:03

This is common on vinted. I bet if you search the image of the trainers you thought you were buying there’s loads of duplicate listings

Hope you manage to get your money back.

User952539 · 25/07/2022 21:03

This happened to me on eBay. I ordered a Lego Death Star (££££) and received a micro SIM card

SofaLola33 · 25/07/2022 21:04

the money doesn’t get released to the seller until you confirm receipt, take photos and put in a complaint. Do not state you have received the item. You should get your money back.

MarshaMelrose · 25/07/2022 21:06

Why bother sending the plate? Is there something written on it? They didn't draw the shoes on it, did they?

They wanted a tracking number. Some people destroy the label when tearing open the package, in this instance the weight and the packaging that obviously couldn't accommodate the goods assist with the claim.
Some idiots get ideas from social media and consider themselves criminal masterminds.

Paid by debit card not credit card.

Oh noooo
sadly A relative lost £1200 this way paying by friends and family to someone who appeared trustworthy.
Absolute arseholes.

I shop on Vinted a lot, always check seller has reviews, and more than one photo of item, and also that they have put something in the description box.
Don't fret, Vinted will refund you :)

saltwaterandsuncream · 25/07/2022 21:14

2nd thread on this today??

VintedShminted · 25/07/2022 21:15

@Grendalsmum thanks, that’s handy to know.

@Readytoplay I’m sure it would be disappointing for anyone yes, but I have an autistic 12 year old whose cognitive function is not typical and has been stuck on a loop talking about the paper plate for 2 hours. It was also her birthday yesterday and she didn’t get much as this was her big present, the seller took a few days to send the plate so she’s also been stuck on a loop asking about tracking the parcel for the last week. Just pretty rubbish for her.
