AIBU to shove this paper plate up the Vinted seller’s arse?

Ordered some Nike Air Jordan’s for my DD’s birthday from Vinted.

The package arrived today, except what I actually received was a folded up paper plate in a tiny mailing bag.

Please reassure me that I haven’t lost all my money because I can’t afford to get her anything else. Have just reported to Vinted. I know on eBay it’s easy enough for sellers to scam people by sending an empty box or whatever so I’m hoping this isn’t the same.

Yes - you would be very unreasonable to shove the paper plate up the seller’s arse - unless you had folded it into a multitude of sharp corners!

This exact thing happened to me, but with a (empty) coffee shop loyalty card rather than a folded paper plate. Just report to vinted they will refund you!

My daughter bought a pair of Jordans on Vinted and received a paper plate on Saturday. She is a regular Vinted user and said you will get your money back at some point but won’t be before 5 working days.

I guess if they do this to hundreds/thousands of people then of them some of them will be away when it arrives or for whatever reason don’t report within 2 days and then the scammers make money. And if it’s relatively high ticket items they must consider getting payment for just a few a worthwhile endeavour.

What a low thing to do, how cruel. I hope somehow this story gets the happy ending it deserves. Sorry OP 🙁

Yes they will be able to scam a lot of people before they are found out as 2 days is no time at all. Ebay and Paypal is 6 months!

This is awful. I’m going to start filming myself opening every parcel.

A good tip is to take a video of you opening the package. I normally say the date too. Can't argue with video evidence, especially if you do a circuit of the outside of the package first too.

What is the deal with paper plates? Why plates?

I'd say to never buy from someone without good reviews, especially expensive items because it's almost always a scammer.

Dont know other than easy and convenient. Perhaps they dont want to slip up using something that could possibly be traced.

If you spot something you like on Vinted please click on the sellers wardrobe. You can tell a lot from this, are they similar items? Are shoes the same size? Where are the images taken and is the background the same?

if you’re still unsure drop the seller a message. A genuine one will be able to reply with a photo of the item containing a dated scrap of paper. More so, a genuine seller will be happy to do that for you.

You will get a refund as has been said. Bloody annoying though and gives us genuine sellers who are just trying to have a bit of a clear out a bad name.

new to Vinted and after weeks of being in the ‘what shall I get for my birthday’ loop with dd I was just thrilled that she’d finally made a bloody decision and didn’t question it.

It happens, and better on Vinted where you have buyer protection than ebay where its impossible to get a refund!

Just had a jolly few minutes reporting these scammers!
