Did I just win the award for most 'I can't be fucked' tea for my DC?

I've been working overtime today, exhausted, feel like shit.

My 3 year old had a plate of corned beef, cheese and sweetcorn for his tea.

Did I just win the award for most 'that'll do' tea?

He quite enjoyed it tbf! He asked for more.

Ready for today to be done 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

BTW, now that my DC are all 18+, I can eat cheesecake for breakfast and Pringles for dinner. Which is what I have done today, as they are all, for once, absent.

@PaniniHead yes I'm from the SE and have never seen corned beef in any supermarket here and never known anyone to eat it here either. I'm not a weirdo recluse. I'm very sociable so it won't have passed me by plus I'm in my 50's so would have come across it being eaten here by now. None of my northern friends have ever eaten it down here either and I've known some of them for 30 years

I live in the SE it's sliced in the fridge section where the ham is, frequently in the deli meat counter and tinned in the tins aisle along with those tinned meals that only my dad eats like meatballs and chilli. I think you're just not looking in the right places! I challenge you to find it next time you go!

dizzygirl1 · 25/07/2022 20:56

Pot noodle here... but I have teens so I'm winning in their books! 🤣🤣

feelingfree17 · 25/07/2022 20:56

Decorate your own jacket potato
I cook the spuds, they can chuck on whatever they fancy/can find

Corned beef that's very dated I thought they stopped selling that stuff years ago along with spam.

I'm impressed your DC even ate it

As for a meal it's fine tbh

I have both corned beef AND spam in my cupboard,

Bothe very versatile items.

And everybody eats them.

Stupidlydupidly · 25/07/2022 20:58

I recently mixed a tin of tuna into some microwave brown rice and served with cucumber, my kids absolutely bloody loved it!

PersonaNonGarter · 25/07/2022 21:01

Fucking hell, OP. I opened this thread expecting ‘the last two bags of multipack Monster Munch and some out of date sultanas’.

You’ve covered all the key food groups and as such this is basically a total letdown. You could get a job teaching Home Ec at my kids’ school on that. In fact, please apply.

I’m brought up on smörgåsbord for dinner, and it was lovely. Bread (nice brown danish) or crisp bread, cold meat, sliced cheese, tomatoes, mackerel, boiled sliced eggs with Kalle’s caviar (Ikea) or whatever. Everything on the table, you could eat what you wanted. I always liked it. We had the main meal for lunch. I survived!

I like that your CBF dinner is caviar 😂 but yes this does sound delicious.

One of my favourite lazy meals in nice bread, cheese, mackerel, salad and pickled things!

lioncitygirl · 25/07/2022 21:02

We had beans on toast. Kids asked for more. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Is this the first stealth boast on the thread? Waitrose sells corned beef where do you shop?

Doidontimmm · 25/07/2022 21:03

Gave mine cupcakes once, nothing else, just cupcakes!

TiredInPerpetuity · 25/07/2022 21:04

My can't be arsed dinner is cheese cubes, an apple, cucumber sticks and a piece of bread and butter. Couple of cocktail sausages or a mini Pepperami on the side of the fridge is stocked. It's his absolute favourite meal which is a bit offensive when I usually try so hard to cook him lovely dinners 😅

NameChangeNamaste · 25/07/2022 21:04

Mine CBA this evening was carrot sticks, apple slices with peanut butter, a kosher dill pickle and a few mature cheddar slices. Not complaining!

When I had covid I gave my son alcohol free kopperberg and 3 chocolate digestives for breakfast.

I think that was the darkest depths of my food related parenting

This is the best answer to a food post I have ever read.

Thermalpants · 25/07/2022 21:05

My DM used to make what she called corned beef hash. It was a tin of corned beef mixed into mash potato. She would make a well in the middle and pour in tomato soup. It was absolutely delicious. I’d eat it now, but I don’t think my family would be keen!😂

TheCanyon · 25/07/2022 21:06

Corned beef and cheese is my favourite sandwich. I'd call that top parenting.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/07/2022 21:07

I live in outer SW London and every local supermarket has corned beef. And our corner shop.

Now and then I cut a small tin into cubes, fry some onions and cubed (cooled) boiled potatoes, add the corned beef to heat through thoroughly, mix in plenty of freshly cooked green cabbage, chopped.
Dh loves it.

SE here too & it's in all the major supermarkets here. Were northern & though we don't eat it ourselves, we have many friends both northern & SE who do. The southern favour it as corned beef hash, though it's a less mushy hash than up north

Partyatno10 · 25/07/2022 21:09

My favourite can't be arsed dinner is breakfast for dinner. Kids think it's hilarious! breakfast cereal for dinner

It’s not caviar as in real fine caviar though, it’s salted cod row in like a tooth paste tube. 😂 It’s a very Swedish thing, hence the reference you might find it if you go to Ikea.

My local (SE) Waitrose sells it. In two sizes. They can’t be selling all the tins to Northern expats, surely?

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 25/07/2022 21:10

Fully growed up adult and my cba tea is either a dairylea white bread sandwich, cheese and onion crisp sandwich or Bernard Matthews kievs or Hamwiches.

HappyAsASandboy · 25/07/2022 21:11

"Thought you were going to say you’d given him a cold McDonalds!

I don’t like corned beef but that doesn’t sound awful 🙂"

My toddler had cold McDonald's for lunch. He fell asleep before we could find somewhere to eat it, so had it when he woke up Blush

Elevenerifebruv · 25/07/2022 21:12

Love breakfast for dinner! It's my favourite lazy dinner if I ever have a kid free night. Either that or wine and crisps
