I've been working overtime today, exhausted, feel like shit.

My 3 year old had a plate of corned beef, cheese and sweetcorn for his tea.

Did I just win the award for most 'that'll do' tea?

He quite enjoyed it tbf! He asked for more.

Ready for today to be done 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

I’m here for ideas 😂

Glad that it's not just me!

There was an advert when I was a kid (it’s on YouTube just found it) about choc ice and chips. That was my idea of a dream Cba tea, I actually managed it at a friends house at 16.

When DM was giving birth to my brother my DF asked 3 yr old me what I wanted for tea. I apparently answered choc ice and chips - and so that is what I was given. On the same plate at the same time 😂😂

it’s become a family legend- and the memory makes me smile when I think of my dear departed dad. He was an incredible cook, better than DM, but he obviously had a “can’t be fucked” evening too 😂😂

I’ve never heard this combination mentioned by anyone else so this has really made me smile!! This tea was dished up to me 40+ years ago - way before the internet was a thing! 😊

FrasierCraneDay · 25/07/2022 20:14

Mine had Nutella sandwiches followed by a bowl of ice cream Blush in my defence....ah shit I don't have one

SpaceFarce · 25/07/2022 20:14

Ooh I love corned beef. And cheese. I’d probably dingy the sweet corn, sorry. But 2/3 ain’t bad!

LizzieSiddal · 25/07/2022 20:14

Add some bread, put it on different plates and you almost have a buffet! Not bad for a Monday.

Lochjeda · 25/07/2022 20:16

How can anyone be surprised they still sell corned beef, do you shop the deli/cold meat section with your eyes closed in supermarkets 🤣

I genuinely loved when my husband worked away and the kids were small enough to just make super easy things lie this occasionally 🤣

mackthepony · 25/07/2022 20:17

We're having tapas aka fridge dump on table and say 'hola' when we all sit down

cookiecreammpie · 25/07/2022 20:17

Tinned sausage and beans on toast is my own kid's can't be arsed tea of choice. Thoroughly enjoyed by all except one who has boiled eggs with toast.

mackthepony · 25/07/2022 20:17

Sorry for the bold!

😳

Lurleene · 25/07/2022 20:19

Years ago I bought a Joseph Joseph omelette bowl from TK Maxx. You crack eggs onto it, beat, add cheese or veg if you're feeling really fancy and bung in the microwave for 2 minutes. Zero effort and DS loves it. Best 2 quid I ever spent.

Cotherstone · 25/07/2022 20:19

I often pretend that Ready Brek with honey and raisins is a “treat” for dinner. Sometimes I go all out and throw a handful of nuts on it too.

10yo still falls for it and doesn’t grasp that I can’t be arsed

No way, that just brought back massive memories

my dad used to say that if he was in charge of dinner.

“what’s for tea dad?”

“choc ice and chips!”

and there’s me thinking he made that up!

Garysparrowsthirdwife · 25/07/2022 20:22

I work in fast food and at least once a shift I get guilty looking parents doing in telling me that they just cba to cook dinner
i tell them it’s not evil to give them a happy meal once in a while-they are fed-that’s all that matters

my own was cucumber sandwiches, crisps, yogurt and some blueberries I found in the back of the fridge followed by some (god knows how long it had been in the freezer) ice cream

they loved it

AdoraBell · 25/07/2022 20:22

☀️🏆 well done.

when mine were younger my CBA dinners were “indoor picnics” DDs loved them. Cheese/ham/crackers/tomatoes/whatever other salad/fruit/anything else in the cupboards.

@SpidersAreShitheads this happened in our house too while DM was giving birth to my DB! Your post totally threw me because I thought I must’ve replied and then had some sort of memory lapse! I wonder how many people our age had this happen while they eagerly awaited a younger sibling?!

Dd likes snacky teas.

tonight she had some cucumber, carrot sticks, some pre packed cooked chicken, a couple cheese straws and some smoked cheese! Worst thing is she loves it! She also loves corned beef so would have happily ate what you made!

starfishmummy · 25/07/2022 20:23

I'd totally eat corned beef and cheese but I reckon your kid is going to be wanting extra drinks after that!!!

viques · 25/07/2022 20:24

Splicebaked · 25/07/2022 20:07

Corned beef that's very dated I thought they stopped selling that stuff years ago along with spam.

I'm impressed your DC even ate it

As for a meal it's fine tbh

Spam is very popular in some parts of the world , if you ever watch those mukbang eating videos they quite often feature spam cooked in various ways and eaten with relish ( and kimchi!) .

disclaimer : mukbang videos are not to everyone’s taste, like spam I suppose, but they are a bit addictive, unlike spam……

Ha ha!! We could be related, I posted the same!

PatriciaHolm · 25/07/2022 20:25

corned beef, sweetcorn and peas on a jacket potato is the food of the gods!

on it's own with cheese a close second ;-)

LMB0716 · 25/07/2022 20:25

My 7 year old is autistic and feeding him is an absolute nightmare. I usually try really hard to get at least some decent food into him, he hates veg so I try to hide it and usually come up with some very inventive solutions. Last week I really couldn’t face it. I had 3 of them covered in chicken pox, no help from hubby because he had covid so I banished him to the bedroom because the kids were poorly enough without that as well, and I’d had a wisdom tooth removed the day before. So he had Nutella sandwich’s and beetroot. Together. Side by side.

AdoraBell · 25/07/2022 20:26

Another CBA option is pancakes, made thick like American ones. Add anything, fruit - fresh or tinned, jam/Nutella.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 25/07/2022 20:27

Our CBA meals are normally a picky meal, or sandwiches, crisps and fruit. Or even better cheese and crackers.

I love corned beef though. When DD had Covid we had to have a tinned dinner as couldnt get to the shops, chopped tinned potatoes, tin of corned beef, frozen onion, tin of tomatoes, tin of sweetcorn chucked it in a pan and topped with some cheese. DD declares it her favourite meal EVER.

Although she is also a fan of spam, following a school trip on a steam train as 'evacuees' for WW2 topic when they got off their train they got to make rationed food. DD loved the spam sandwiches and will still ask me to pick up a tin occasionally.

Freckledot · 25/07/2022 20:28

I once asked my, then very fussy, young teenage dc’s what they would like to eat. The answer was as always ’I don’t know!’ So I set the table, called them out of their rooms that dinner was ready. They sat down only to notice a post it note on their empty plates. It said ’I don’t know!’ That is what they wanted and that is what they were served..

godmum56 · 25/07/2022 20:28

My late beloved dad used to take over child duties when Mum had migraines. No eye rolling please, he worked all day laying and mending watermains and used to come home shattered. He would turn corned beef or spam out of the tin and divide it up into chunks, one each with bread and butter and pickle. Afters was tinned fruit with evaporated milk mixed with a little sugar and whisked to a foam. We loved it especially as we were allowed to use the handle turny whisk. If Mum was ill for more than a day he used to make jelly and mixed the whisked evap in when it was starting to set before he went to work in the morning. Cuisine at its finest.
