Did I just win the award for most 'I can't be fucked' tea for my DC?

I've been working overtime today, exhausted, feel like shit.

My 3 year old had a plate of corned beef, cheese and sweetcorn for his tea.

Did I just win the award for most 'that'll do' tea?

He quite enjoyed it tbf! He asked for more.

Ready for today to be done 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

We had a big lunch with my parents, so I didn't feel hungry again at teatime. At about 9 pm I realised the teens were snacking, and hadn't had any tea so we all had cereal and nutella toast for dinner....

MerryMarigold · 25/07/2022 20:46

My favourite CBF tea was popcorn. It was at least home made and apparently the 'best dinner ever' (they had had a school dinner at lunch!).

Freckledot · 25/07/2022 20:46

I’m brought up on smörgåsbord for dinner, and it was lovely. Bread (nice brown danish) or crisp bread, cold meat, sliced cheese, tomatoes, mackerel, boiled sliced eggs with Kalle’s caviar (Ikea) or whatever. Everything on the table, you could eat what you wanted. I always liked it. We had the main meal for lunch. I survived!

My 7 year old is autistic and feeding him is an absolute nightmare. I usually try really hard to get at least some decent food into him, he hates veg so I try to hide it and usually come up with some very inventive solutions. Last week I really couldn’t face it. I had 3 of them covered in chicken pox, no help from hubby because he had covid so I banished him to the bedroom because the kids were poorly enough without that as well, and I’d had a wisdom tooth removed the day before. So he had Nutella sandwich’s and beetroot. Together. Side by side.

@LMB0716

Side by side- love it!!

What a grim
eeek for all of you (health wise. The food was fine!!) I hope you're all feeling much better now!!

We're having tapas aka fridge dump on table and say 'hola' when we all sit down

Legend

Corned Beef and Branston pickle sandwiches. Yummy. And Corned Beef Hash.

Splicebaked · 25/07/2022 20:48

@PaniniHead yes I'm from the SE and have never seen corned beef in any supermarket here and never known anyone to eat it here either. I'm not a weirdo recluse. I'm very sociable so it won't have passed me by plus I'm in my 50's so would have come across it being eaten here by now. None of my northern friends have ever eaten it down here either and I've known some of them for 30 years

Hellocatshome · 25/07/2022 20:49

Well the most CBF tea my kids ever had was when I completely forgot to feed them at all. They were older Primary school aged to be fair so could have said something but they also forgot. Wasn't until I opened the fridge the next morning and saw the ingredients I realised. We had a Maccy Ds breakfast to make up for my parenting fail.

But corned beef hash... so good! The one that's like a stew and you have with pickled red cabbage, brown sauce and crusty bread
Not the fancy fried egg type

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/07/2022 20:50

Anyone watch The Middle? The comedy about a midwest family definitely not living the american dream! They had some famously awful meals but I think my favourite was Sandwich Night. Once a week Frankie dumped a loaf of bread and jars of various sorts on the table and they got on with it!

I was very good tonight and made fish pie, although I misjudged the amount of peas so it was more Pea Pie in a fish sauce! My worst CBA was because I also hadnt been arsed to go shopping so "Dinner" was a few croquette potatoes, a hash brown and a cheese spread sandwich each, and yes they loved it!

Flavabobble · 25/07/2022 20:50

One of my favourite holiday/childhood memories is my mum digging out a loaf of uncut bread, a pot of jam and letting us at it.

Elevenerifebruv · 25/07/2022 20:51

My 3yo ate today :

Breakfast : none.
Snack: kinder egg and a whole punnet of strawberries
Lunch: cold spaghetti hoops, chocolate cake
Snack: half a slice of bread and butter
Dinner: sweetcorn dipped in ketchup
Drinks: 2 gallons of paddling pool water and a cup of milk

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/07/2022 20:38

I’m here for tips and ideas too!

I used to love corned beef as a child - I wonder if my two would eat it…

I've been vegetarian for the past 33 years, but cornbeef & potato pie was a favourite meal before that!

cornbeef mash & hash too!!

my Dad liked his with an egg on top!

@CanneBFucked no sorry, that's just a summer night dinner, nowhere near cba enough to 'win'!!

HRTQueen · 25/07/2022 20:51

Ds loves tinned spaghetti with some grated cheese and toast

to make it more sophisticated and with a French twist would serve it with garlic bread

his friends liked it too 😊

Mindymomo · 25/07/2022 20:51

I ran out of bread today for sandwiches for my adult son, he normally makes pasta to take to work, but was running late. All I had was a small tin of tuna, lettuce and sweetcorn. He came home at 4 pm and cooked straight away, he was starving, he’s 6 ft 2 and weighs 13 stone. We have corned beef sandwiches each week.

MediocreHRPerson · 25/07/2022 20:52

I think tinned sweetcorn is central to any 'can't be arsed' dinner.

As a parent, you can have that sense of satisfaction that your child is eating veg after making absolutely no effort.

imnotthatkindofmum · 25/07/2022 20:52

My mum used to make corned beef fritters in batter. I'm not sure it was so much a cba tea rather than a cupboard nearly empty tea. She also invented "corned beef risotto" which is corned beef, a tin of tomatoes and whatever rice you have....honestly bloody delicious!

ticktickticktickBOOM · 25/07/2022 20:52

CanneBFucked · 25/07/2022 20:37

Alcohol free kopperberg and digestives for breakfast hands down wins 😂

😄I felt so guilty all day.

Splicebaked · 25/07/2022 20:07

Corned beef that's very dated I thought they stopped selling that stuff years ago along with spam.

I'm impressed your DC even ate it

As for a meal it's fine tbh

We love spam!

Fried spam, eggs and rice with spicy kewpie mayo. Delicious.

imnotthatkindofmum · 25/07/2022 20:53

Gonna get me some corned beef tomorrow! My kids will prob hate it as they do anything that isn't sausage and chips 🙄

Heresince2006 · 25/07/2022 20:53

OP, I used to give my DC buttered toast for their tea on Sunday nights. I marketed it as a "special treat tea", but it was actually a "I am with you for 13 hours solid every single day, and I generally feed you well, so I am having a night off cooking you a healthy meal on Sundays" tea. At least yours involves vitamins and protein.

I’m originally from the SE too, well London. I’m in my 30s and have friends and family who love corned beef. Have always seen it in every supermarket chain and corner shops, although it doesn’t take up as much shelf space as up here.

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 25/07/2022 20:55

This has reminded me of my cannot be arsed dinner.

Sunshine dinner, grated carrot mixed with raisins as the sun, surrounded by grated cheese and cucumber sticks as the sun's rays.
I think they've forgotten about it now

Stuckandinamess · 25/07/2022 20:55

Freezer tapas is a favourite- anything small that you can out in an oven then dip in sauce.

Mini sausage rolls, samosas, quorn nuggets.... and if we are really being fancy, two types of sauce , tomato or barbecue.
