Did I just win the award for most 'I can't be fucked' tea for my DC?

I've been working overtime today, exhausted, feel like shit.

My 3 year old had a plate of corned beef, cheese and sweetcorn for his tea.

Did I just win the award for most 'that'll do' tea?

He quite enjoyed it tbf! He asked for more.

Ready for today to be done 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

I'm a bit puzzled by the poster who thought corned beef was no longer sold! It's available in tins, and packs of slices in the cold, cooked meats section of every supermarket!

Lovely13 · 27/07/2022 00:12

I’d definitely eat it. Sounds a good combo

JerkintheMerkin · 27/07/2022 00:18

My cba swan song is Yorkshire puds with Nutella. Am always so happy when DD asks that for her dinner. 4 mins and dinner is served. I just survive on Space Raiders Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 27/07/2022 00:32

Frankly I'm jealous of all the CBA dinners which involve Nutella, but especially that one.

My mum used to slice cheddar onto a Pyrex plate, put some milk on top and put under the grill. Eat with bread. Yummy.

I had this too! Imaginatively called 'cheese under the grill' and apparently my grandma used to make it for my mum when she was ill, so mum made it for me. I have tried to recreate it and failed, I don't know why. I remember it being absolutely delicious!

mynamesnotMa · 27/07/2022 00:43

I remember the choc ice and chips advert. I had it once it was vile.

Ohwait · 25/07/2022 20:02

I’m here for ideas 😂

Me too!

This is like a special summer holiday menu planner for me! 🙈

PeloAddict · 27/07/2022 01:45

There's a vague bit of effort in this but I eat it for my lunch a lot (usually swap the bacon for ham)
You could add spring onions or tomatoes or stuff if you wanted more health Grin
Genuinely takes minutes

IncyWincyGrownUp · 27/07/2022 01:55

My lot are fans of soup in a big mug with whatever carb they can find to dunk in it. There is always a selection of soups in the house, be they canned, packet, or frozen ones from days where I could be arsed.

One child prefers bread to dunk, one is a fan of crackers, and the other is a teenaged boy and will thus eat anything that gets within range of his face.

Lunaticmess · 27/07/2022 02:21

Nope. The kids had Kit-Kats for tea at Gran’s when she couldn’t be arsed!

TheSmallAssassin · 26/07/2022 23:02

The choc ice and chips advert is from 1978, so it might have inspired your choice, @SpidersAreShitheads - it features a dad cooking tea while mum is in hospital with a new baby, so maybe 3 year old you thought it was the treat you got 😁

@TheSmallAssassin OMG I've never seen that advert before!!! And my brother was born at the end of 1978 so this must have been my inspiration, surely??! How wonderful to have learnt this! My DM doesn't know how it came about and my lovely dad died about 10 yrs ago. Love this so much - thank you!!

ghostyslovesheets · 26/07/2022 21:22

also Tomato/potato combo - I'm so doing that

spam fritters cooked in batter, anyone - yes - staple 1970's Northern food!

They were my favorite school dinner.

I should never have read this thread, I bloody love corned beef, especially the jelly but round the edges. We never get it though because DH and DCs think it is filth (fools). Sometimes when I’m feeding the cat, beef chunks in jelly I can feel myself salivating.

Op I’m sure your DC enjoyed every mouthful!

Go mad!!!! Buy a packet of corned beef just for you safe in the knowledge that no one else is going to eat it.

ImJustACuriousBird · 27/07/2022 05:56

Got to say, I'm pretty surprised to read people list an actual meal as a CBA to cook meal.

Stuff like:
Jacket potatoes (with tuna, cheese or beans)
Sandwiches with any fillings in them
Pasta with grated cheese
Knock-up pizza
Smorgasbord
Bread and choice of spreads
Anything on toast (egg, beans, spaghetti)

I mean, these were actual meals when I was growing up. We called it 'tea', and would have breakfast and dinner (usually hot) in the same day, so overall it was pretty balanced diet.

But you guys are calling a standard 'tea'—which is a whole meal in itself—a CBA Meal?!

My CBA meal is popcorn or biscuits and crisps, not actual food!

Rmw12 · 27/07/2022 07:40

This reminds me of the one where they had cold baked beans on chocolate Swiss roll, a la carte kitchen. I always wanted one because of that advert! 😂

Yes but this is premium mumsnet isn’t it, where posters try and outdo each other to be the best, most wholesome version of parents they can be. A truly CBA meal in the spirit of this thread would be a bag of crisps and a baby bel, these are actual meals that people are saying “oh gosh it’s just my no effort meal!”

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 27/07/2022 08:05

My can't be bothered meal for myself is a tub of dolmio stir in sauce and some straight to wok noodles. Just warm the sauce and throw in the noodles - 3 minute cheats spaghetti and sauce. Obviously topped off with cheese that i buy in pre-grated!

LoisLane66 · 27/07/2022 08:06

I don't like or eat meat but corned beef, the proper stuff with white fat not the opaque jelly? I love it in sandwiches with brown sauce.
Haven't eaten it in years as nowhere here sells it.
Now sweetcorn...ugh! I really don'time the smell and can't buy pre-prepped salads on the go as they always have sweetcorn in them.
Glad your son enjoyed his tea, nothing wrong with that, meat veg and dairy.

LoisLane66 · 27/07/2022 08:07

Corned Beef and Branston pickle sandwiches. Yummy. And Corned Beef Hash.

Food of kings right there. I took it up one notch at uni and made this into a toasted sandwich - the pickle was as hot a larva but it was so good.

My primary school in Essex in the 60s had spam fritters in its repertoire.

My 70s primary school in Kent had them too. If you had them for mains and then gypsy tart for afters then it was just the best school lunch ever.

CockingASnook · 27/07/2022 08:32

Cubed cheese and red pepper and a slice of bread with mayo takes about 20 seconds to prepare.

Bowel cancer runs in the family so we wouldn’t touch corned beef with a barge pole due to its very high salt and nitrate content.

HarriR · 27/07/2022 09:09

Spaghetti ABC hoops and toast. Almost three year old loved it. Be that day I was making dinner for 9 other people to.
