Did I just win the award for most 'I can't be fucked' tea for my DC?

I've been working overtime today, exhausted, feel like shit.

My 3 year old had a plate of corned beef, cheese and sweetcorn for his tea.

Did I just win the award for most 'that'll do' tea?

He quite enjoyed it tbf! He asked for more.

Ready for today to be done 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

My mum used to put milk on a Pyrex shallow plate, crack an egg on it and top with cheese...put it under the grill. Used to dunk in with bread. Sounds absolutely rank now but we loved it as kids

LividLaVidaLoca · 26/07/2022 18:24

My kid’s having toast and a peach fruit corner.

Except it’s crusts. Classy.

Onlyhuman123 · 26/07/2022 18:26

My mum would do a dollop of mashed potato in a shallow bowl and pour a tin of chicken or tomato soup round the mash....it looked like a castle of potato in a moat of soup. Was bloody lush too. 😄

Whydothat · 26/07/2022 18:27

Beef Supernoodles with frozen peas and sweetcorn all warmed in a bowl with boiling water.

Moversnotshakers · 26/07/2022 18:27

Hilarious - tickticktick made me howl after a shit day at work. Thank you!!

Kentucky83 · 26/07/2022 18:32

Sounds fine to me! If they liked it and have a full tummy then lovely!

Protein, calcium, fibre, vitamins. What’s not to like? And your dc ate it.
i live alone, most of my meals are I can’t be arsed ones. Today’s lunch was a baked potato with cheese and a chocolate ice.

CheshireCat1 · 26/07/2022 18:39

The can’t be bothered meals are always a favourite with kids. When I was a kid it was spam and crisp butties.

Whoactuallythinksthat · 26/07/2022 18:41

Potato waffles and cheese stings.
With ketchup for colour/vegetables.
Not often, but more than once 😬

threatmatrix · 26/07/2022 18:41

Nothing wrong with that at all.

Dou8hnuts · 26/07/2022 18:46

Corned beef and cheese makes an amazing toasted sandwich! My go to CBA tea is pizza toast in the airfryer 🙈

Tinned mince and onion in an microwave proof dish, made up packet of mash on top, bung in the microwave for a couple of minutes....cottage pie. DD considered herself on a par with Delia for coming up with that particular CBA delight at uni.

Faunanflora · 26/07/2022 18:51

I once saw an episode of “Supernanny US” where a mother put her toddler to bed with a can of spray cheese every evening as her meal. Now that is a real cba.

Echobelly · 26/07/2022 18:53

I have allowed sandwiches or bowls of cereal when I really CBAed.

Faunanflora · 26/07/2022 18:54

I am from Manchester and corned beef was a staple in our house growing up. I now live in the southeast and we eat it with piccalilli on our sandwiches most weeks. We do not buy it in cans; it comes from the cooked meat section in Sainburys.

FourChimneys · 26/07/2022 18:55

Adult DD, who is actually a good cook, sent me a photo of her CBA meal recently. A tin of spaghetti hoops, scooped out of the tin with Pringles. A mug of fancy green tea to wash it down 😂

NanaNelly · 26/07/2022 18:56

I love the thinly sliced corned been you get in packets in the Uk served up with mashed potato and beans.

And just by sheer co-incidence I had a tinned corned beef toastie for my lunch today. Two actually.

Op, Get your little one to bed and put your feet up.

Re corned beef. It's now pretty expensive when sliced. The traditional tins are a nightmare to open. If the key breaks half way you have not much chance of opening the damn things. I used to love corned beef hash, but is there any form of tin with a ring pull?

I buy the tinned corned beef, £2.50 ish a tin now, the trick to opening the tin is to do it slowly and follow the etched guide lines on the tin, and keep the strip of tin even on the key as you work it round. If it starts to goes off centre ease it back on course but beware of your fingers.

FourChimneys · 26/07/2022 18:56

DS once came home from school on a very hot day and asked for a bowl of still frozen peas for tea.

Thinkingblonde · 26/07/2022 18:58

PS I don’t touch the strip if tin, I sort of twist the key a little to pull back on course.

NanaNelly · 26/07/2022 18:59

Oh and when we were struggling financially I made a kind of curried corned beef pasta and 35 years later my children still ask for it and it’s what I cook when we go camping, on the first night when the tents are being put up.

HenryIV · 26/07/2022 19:07

I used to call this a 'cold supper plate' - basically CBA so put a little bit of anything from the fridge and cupboards that didn't need cooking onto a plate. It was absolutely DD's favourite dinner!

Today I'd call it a 'charcuterie board' and be posting it on insta.

BlackForestCake · 26/07/2022 19:11

I once peeled the breadcrumb coating off some fish fingers and made the actual fish into a curry.

Scoobyblue · 26/07/2022 19:15

My mum used to slice cheddar onto a Pyrex plate, put some milk on top and put under the grill. Eat with bread. Yummy.
