He's here now eating crisps. Anyone would think he's chewing through a fking concrete wall! And yyu should here the fucking racket when he's eating lettuce! I don't know who taught him to chew like that but OmFGOD I HATE IT!! . It makes me want to smash my face into a wall!
Swallowing noises too.

Anyone else hate the sound of their partner eating/swallowing?

Same! I can't bear to hear him eat.
He talks with food in his mouth and bangs his spoon on his cereal bowl. He scrapes every last bit of yogurt out of a pot, and even makes a noise when he's swallowing his own saliva. I am hyper sensitive to it, but it sets me right on edge...
(& yes, I have spoken to him about all of the above)

PeloAddict · 22/07/2022 22:59

It's like a cross between white hot rage for me and bursting into tears
The worst is people eating on the phone, and it's my job so I can't even hang up!
"Oh <munch> <slurp> sorry I'm just eating muesli"
YES I CAN HEAR YOU

Shoemadlady · 22/07/2022 23:03

I'm sorry I shouldn't laugh but this has made me howl with laughter!
I thought it was just me that was bugged by the sound of chewing! My ex used to chew minestrone soup....honestly, it used to want to make me hit him with a frying pan 😂😂

IfYouOnlyKnew · 22/07/2022 22:08

Yep, it drives me insane. He eats about three pears a day and the sound makes me want to kill him. He’s so noisy. I’ve left the room before when he is particularly loud. My 6 and 4 year olds eat quieter.

My DH eats apples like a donkey.
Im sure there is a massive cave in his head as the CRUUUUUNCH echoes.
Even the cat stops and stares at him!

GirlInterrupted · 22/07/2022 23:09

Another one is a woman at work trying to get every last morsel of yoghurt from the tub with the spoon. It's fucking EMPTY!!! Eating at desks should be banned.

Pegasushaswings · 22/07/2022 21:34

I hate the sound of him eating cereal too, the noise of the tap tap tap of the spoon in the bowl enrages me!

OMG @Pegasushaswings me too. The tap tap tap of the spoon makes me want to scream!

Sexdoesmatter · 22/07/2022 23:10

I had a colleague who used to graze all day. He sort of churned food round like a cow chewing cud, but with an open mouth and extra slurping. When he had bananas i had to go and hide by the photocopier. He was a very slow eater, so i could be there a while.

ClaudineClare · 22/07/2022 23:11

The banging of the spoon on the cereal bowl...I have to leave the room.

Charles11 · 22/07/2022 23:15

I get the pleasure of slurping and crunching apples every evening while I'm trying to watch something on tv. It gives me so much rage. AngryAngryAngry

Bettyboop3 · 22/07/2022 23:15

My husband does a double sniff the whole way through every meal and yet he won't allow the dog to chew any of his toys whilst he's eating cos that's disgusting and puts him off his food 😏

DoElephantsHaveWrinkles · 22/07/2022 23:21

I've got this too.

When I was a child I hated hearing my dad eat. He has a clicky jaw and it was horrible. Click click click click click.

My husband, daughter and youngest son are fine but my oldest son goes through stages of making the worst "wet" type noises when he eats.
I absolutely hate it. It makes my skin crawl and I agree about wanting to rip my ears off.
It's a really strange uncomfortable feeling, even reading and thinking about it now is making me feel weird.

It's not funny for me. It's ruined meal times as me and DS2 have it so badly that we have to eat in a separate room from DH.

Luckily I don't mind DS2 eating and he doesn't mind me but neither of us can stand DH eating.

notawittyname1954 · 22/07/2022 23:29

@meganorks oh my god my husband chews his cup of tea.

@XDownwiththissortofthingX 😂😂

My husband is a spoon biting cereal eater, drives me fucking nuts!

If you were huckled for garrotting him in his sleep, and I was your Judge, you'd walk free.

LovinglifeAF · 22/07/2022 23:38

Oh god I can’t sit in the same room as my husband eating cereal

he somehow manages to simultaneously shovel it in, crunch, slurp and clink his spoon off the bowl

terrible

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 22/07/2022 23:43

The thing that's doubly annoying about 100 decibel cereal eaters, is they are also invariably the type of complete deviant that sees nothing wrong with sitting down with half a box of Cocopops in a bucket at 11:27pm.

They're a breakfast food for prepubescent children for crying out loud. Where is your dignity?

Soontobe60 · 22/07/2022 23:43

girlfriend44 · 22/07/2022 21:33

You'd soon be moaning if he wasn't here. Then you'd wish he'd come back and the noise of eating wouldn't be a problem.

Trust me, if you had misphonia, you wouldn’t be saying this 😂😂😂

If you were huckled for garrotting him in his sleep, and I was your Judge, you'd walk free.

I’d also award you damages for crimes against your mental health!

We just eat in front of the TV with the sound turned up. When we eat at the table, there had to be music on loud!

Yanbu. Chewing in general I don't mind. But my dh seems to deliberately bang his teeth together in a short and sharp pattern which makes me want to wallop him.

Soontobe60 · 22/07/2022 23:48

I can’t even stand the sound my DH makes when he is MAKING a cup of tea, let alone drinking it. He stirs it so long and so loudly I have to leave the room😳😳😳
I should just buy plastic mugs and spoons shouldn’t I?

QueenOfDuisburg · 22/07/2022 23:54

I have found my people 🤣

I've suffered misophonia since I was 11ish.

I haven't been in the same room as my husband eating for years. I can't help but stare at him with a disgusted expression and it causes arguments. I could happily, very happily, murder him on the spot and I wish him a lot of harm.

Also heavy breathing.

And the sound of him banging cutlery on his cereal bowl or plate... Truly vile and unnecessary.

It genuinely makes my life pretty miserable sometimes.

Diversion · 22/07/2022 23:57

My DH is a very noisy eater and it drives me mad, he also constantly clears his throat. Throat clearing is bad enough on it's own, but he clears his throat whilst eating. I keep telling him this is not normal. the throat clearing has been a habit for many years but it seems to be getting worse. I have threatened to make him an appointment at the GP because he really does not realise that he is doing it. Oh and he is also a hummer, doo doo do er and tries to hum along to my music (metal) despite having no idea of the song. To be fair we have been married for over 30 years and I probably have habits which drive him insane too!
