He's here now eating crisps. Anyone would think he's chewing through a fking concrete wall! And yyu should here the fucking racket when he's eating lettuce! I don't know who taught him to chew like that but OmFGOD I HATE IT!! . It makes me want to smash my face into a wall!
Swallowing noises too.

Anyone else hate the sound of their partner eating/swallowing?

Flare earphones/earplugs help. I have to have them in if I am in the office because of all the people eating at their desks. It does something to “soften” the noise while not muting other sounds.

ShanghaiDiva · 22/07/2022 21:51

yep. I have to leave the room if dh is eating soup as he drags the spoon across his teeth. Makes me want to stab him.

TheTeenageYears · 22/07/2022 21:53

DS was very sensitive to all eating/drinking noises so we always had the radio on/music during meal times. Unfortunately, it's made the rest of us hyperaware of noises now.

NoInvitesEver · 22/07/2022 21:54

"My mum does this thing where (even though her mouths shut) she makes a weird grinding noise while breathing through her nose and I honestly can't take it, she tries not too, but once she's done it, the glass is broken and then that's all I can hear!!!!!"
I think this is what my DH does. Mouth shut but a weird snorting noise which sounds like it's behind his snout. I just want to cry. I quickly yell "Alexa! Play Magic radio". I can't bear it. Anything to drown it out.

Play music during meals! Ban snacks from the sitting room - that’ll go a long way towards helping.

Hamguzzler · 22/07/2022 21:58

I sympathise. I can't stand the sound of cutlery scraping on plates, smacking lips, sloppy masticating noises, my boss honking up snot and chewing it as if that's a perfectly ok thing to do whilst talking about serious work stuff, colleagues scraping forks / spoons on plates as if they're trying to make as much sound as possible by bashing the crockery as hard as they can, my husband slurping cereal, my mum's jaw clicking when she eats. I'm fairly sure this is a Me problem, but it doesn't stop me getting seriously angry about it.

Amei · 22/07/2022 22:02

This thread has made my night! My boyfriend licks/sucks his thumb and first two fingers after every meal / snack, even if he's not touched the food with them.

I can't explain the anger I feel inside each and every time.

Pegasushaswings · 22/07/2022 21:34

I hate the sound of him eating cereal too, the noise of the tap tap tap of the spoon in the bowl enrages me!

The absolute worst are spoon-biting cereal eaters.

Frantic DING!DING!DING! as they desperately chase that last Wheeto around the bowl, seemingly in the belief that they will die of calorific deficit if it's not consumed.

CLANGRUNCH!!!!!

Why the fuck are you biting down on the spoon? Just WHY???

Worse than Hitler. When I'm in charge they'll be getting sent to the same island as the pineapple on pizza deviants.

JuniorTiger · 22/07/2022 22:06

Omg an ex used to dunk his bread in to soup, suck the soup off then dunk the same bread in again before eating it. Just why? Eat it on the first dunk you fucking pig man 🐖

I could feel my heart race and palms sweat at the swallowing noise - I had to leave the room to stop me smacking him really hard in the face

IfYouOnlyKnew · 22/07/2022 22:08

Yep, it drives me insane. He eats about three pears a day and the sound makes me want to kill him. He’s so noisy. I’ve left the room before when he is particularly loud. My 6 and 4 year olds eat quieter.

emmathedilemma · 22/07/2022 22:11

Worst thing about hot desking at work is that one of the girls who often sits opposite me (maybe I should start booking a different desk in hindsight but I’ve sort of claimed this one as my own) eats crisps so slowly and loudly that one day I probably will have to kill her.

SEJ1789 · 22/07/2022 22:11

Pretty much anyone eating drives me crazy not just DP. I have had to walk out of rooms before as I literally want to punch something when it’s really bad (usually cereal or an apple for that reaction)

AlphaAlpha · 22/07/2022 22:11

@XDownwiththissortofthingX 😂😂

My husband is a spoon biting cereal eater, drives me fucking nuts!

LadyCampanulaTottington · 22/07/2022 22:14

I’ll see your DH eating and raise you The Competitive Sneezer.

It goes something like this … AAAAAACCCCCHHHHHOOOOOOOOO at ear busting decibels. Without even the courtesy of a warning. I’ve spilled many drinks with the fright.

Paprikapommes · 22/07/2022 22:19

DH's entire family gulp tea as though they're being force fed through a tube. It's SO FUCKING LOUD. I swear I can hear it land in their stomachs.

FizzyStream · 22/07/2022 22:24

Mine was just eating an ice cream on the sofa next to me. I nearly murdered him. I've never known anyone take so bloody long or make so much noise eating a cone!

Garysparrowsthirdwife · 22/07/2022 22:36

Eating doesn’t bother me too much

but him chewing on a fingernail-the squeak as his teeth grate over it makes me want to murder him

even worse is I’m having problems dropping off to sleep-he’s out as soon as his head hits the pillow
it starts with a deep, wet breathing which morphs into a low snore, which then grows into a big snore and by the time he’s moved onto lip smacking and talking to himself in-between Im ready to do time

I’ve had 3 hours sleep in the last 2 days thanks to this-I ended up in tears and moving into the spare room last night-and I could still fucking hear him

its like the noise goes deep into my ears and hooks itself onto my brain and starts hitting every single nerve I’ve got in there

excelledyourself · 22/07/2022 22:37

Thankfully I'm single, and DC don't irritate me when eating.

But I used to sit opposite a colleague who slurped, aahed, crunched, sucked, and smacked her lips through what felt like the whole of Tesco meal deal section throughout the day.

Horrendous.

I also have a colleague who thinks nothing of PHONING me while eating her breakfast or lunch. I can't articulate how it makes me feel.

When my dad eats I leave the room. Has caused problems my whole life but the sound makes me want to be sick and rip my ears off

😂

Titsywoo · 22/07/2022 22:43

The sound DH makes when drinking tea drives me insane. These really loud OTT gulps. I have to put my fingers in my ears!

SugarDatesandPistachios · 22/07/2022 22:43

‘Eat it on the first dunk you fucking pig man 🐖’ 😆

Also the poster describing her husband with an egg 👏 ‘He eats it immediately after its cooked, it's always too hot which leads to slurping.’

@Amei I can (frustratingly) top this - my DH sucks EVERY FINGER after eating. I mean, FFS - for the love of god WHY 😩

Another misophonia sufferer here btw 😄

TalkingToMyselfAgain · 22/07/2022 22:48

My husband sounds like a horse crunching, and he slurps his tea. It is horrible and he's done it for the 42 years we've been married so won't ever change now. I try to have the tv on to drown out the noise. He's a bit better when we're eating out but there's the sound of people talking etc so I can't hear it so much then.

Simplehappyzen · 22/07/2022 22:55

Does it count that even just reading about how these eating noises affect you all makes me squirm. I'm literally squeezing the insides of my ears up 🤣🤣
