Fly papers - God, but I just love it when they fill up with flies.

The more stuck flies the better.

YABU - and probably a psychopath

It's a no for me, I prefer of they get electrocuted in the zapper, as it's quick. I Understand the risks they carry, and maggots etc, so it's a necessary evil.

We live very near the local tip/recycling centre so we had to invest in an electric bat too. Grim but necessary.

Hate them indoors, swat if I have to, don’t enjoy killing them though.
would rather they fly out by themselves.

I love the sizzle of the zapper lol, it's like putting flies in the electric chair.

My house and food isn't swarming with flying maggot shit flies and I have the windows and garden door open pretty much all day every day. OP must live in a pretty manky, smelly house with loads of food just lying around uncovered to have enough shut coated maggot swarming flies to fill a fly paper ... ! Although I am suspecting this fly paper is outside, you know, where flies actually do play an environmental role

I think it really depends where you live. Lots of sheep round me which means flies are common and problematic. I have a cottage which is empty and clean, no one eats there, there is no food or rubbish. I pop in and use the washing machine most days. There is a fly strip above the sink which must have fifty or so flies on it. It's been hanging there for a couple of months. If I put fly paper outside I reckon it'd be full within a day or two.

Everything has its place in the ecosystem. I don’t know what the position of flies is but I imagine that without them, spiders would rapidly decline and spiders are important for lots of reasons (not least in developing technologies for humankind based on their silk).

so yes, yabu. Personally, I can’t think of a living thing that I would celebrate the passing of.

What is wrong with some people!? The idea of deliberately inflicting pain on another creature is horrific to me. I have a plastic beaker with holes cut into it that I use to gather up eg flies or spiders. I slide cardboard underneath it and get them outside. If possible i shove them out of open windows. These creatures are part of our eco-culture. Do humans really think we can survive if we were the only creatures on the planet?
