Everything has its place in the ecosystem. I don’t know what the position of flies is but I imagine that without them, spiders would rapidly decline and spiders are important for lots of reasons (not least in developing technologies for humankind based on their silk).

My house and food isn't swarming with flying maggot shit flies and I have the windows and garden door open pretty much all day every day. OP must live in a pretty manky, smelly house with loads of food just lying around uncovered to have enough shut coated maggot swarming flies to fill a fly paper ... ! Although I am suspecting this fly paper is outside, you know, where flies actually do play an environmental role

I hate flies. We live in the countryside and every time the door opens one or two sneak in. I have bugscreens on the windows to keep them out. I have an electric tennis racquet and quite like seeing them crackle so YANBU

All undesirable/questionable creatures found in the garden become part of my compost bin ecosystem of slugs, snails, centipedes, various beetles, maggots, worms, etc. Wish I could fit pigeons in there.

@MikeWozniaksMoustache but your argument was not that killing flies is cruel but that it's bad for the ecosystem. So I am asking - should we kill spiders to stop them killing flies? Should we go further and purposefully breed flies?

Nah, they don't. Do you mourn every fly in the world, really? Flies are not going extinct anytime anyway and are pests. Killing insects outdoors or encouraging children I'd deem inappropriate, not feeling satisfied at killing a stupid pest in your house.
