Fly papers - God, but I just love it when they fill up with flies.

The more stuck flies the better.

YABU - and probably a psychopath
YANBU - DIE FLY DIE

AlviarinAesSedai · 22/07/2022 20:39

I think the house fly will be fine. I would worry the dead flies were going to fall off the paper, onto my head.

MyDogsTheBestDog · 22/07/2022 20:39

Do you get other beasties and butterflies and moths and beetles and spiders on it? As.someone whose friend's rabbit managed to get hold of fly paper and ate a corner and died in agony, I am not a fan.... Flies are not going to hurt you. Loads of other things you can use, like lavender and citronella

ChinBristles · 22/07/2022 20:40

Is it ok to use hand sanitiser and the like? I mean don't bacteria deserve to live?!

Blackmoggy · 22/07/2022 20:40

LondonQueen · 22/07/2022 20:37

That's pretty disturbing. Sticky fly traps should be illegal, they cause immense pain and suffering to a living creature.

Are you joking? please tell me you're joking....no one can really be this ridiculous....

YABVU

Killing something is one thing but watching and hearing the flies stuck in one place slowly starving to death should not be something to be enjoyed.

If you HAVE to kill something then do it quickly so it doesn’t suffer.

DaddyPiglet · 22/07/2022 20:37

Insects don't feel pain, they don't have a complex nervous system. They respond to stimuli

Actually there was a fairly recent study that suggests insects do feel something that could be considered similar to acute pain.

Flies can make a person very sick considering they are flying maggots that vomit on food when they land.

ChinBristles · 22/07/2022 20:42

OP, I actually think the satisfaction is some sort of primordial thing. Like when gorillas de-flea each other.

thetemptationofchocolate · 22/07/2022 20:42

There's a really annoying fly in my house right now. If it would keep still long enough I'd have a go at catching it and putting it out. It doesn't help that half the time I can't see it, I just hear it buzzing around in an irritating fashion.
I had hopes that one of the cats might get it but they have gone to sleep upstairs so no hope of any help there.

I prefer Dr Pimple Popper for gross relief
I prefer flies etc to die quickly so their buzzing doesn't annoy me! so I use fly spray to slow them down then crush them quickly and hopefully painlessly in a hanky.

It also (just my opinion) doesn’t really matter. It’s like if I saw a child torturing and mutilating a toy I wouldn’t think ‘ah well it’s just a Ken doll, it doesn’t feel it so it doesn’t matter.’ I’d think ‘what the fuck that’s a bit weird.’ It’s more about how the person feels - taking joy in killing something is a bit odd regardless of whether the creature feels it as we feel it. Also super odd to kill spiders and say in the same breath you hate flies the most of all. Leave the spiders alone and you’ll be free of the flies!

CallOnMe · 22/07/2022 20:44

Since when did bacteria have nervous systems and brains!

I quite enjoy spearing slugs, I hate the fuckers and I feel a sense of satisfaction knowing that that particular slug won’t be eating my lovingly tended plants. I guess that means I’m a psychopath.

If it helps, animals that lack a cerebral cortex don’t feel pain, at least not like we do. It’s more likely a signal saying something is wrong.

Most slugs actually don't cause damage and eat other slugs. I'm betting dead cert you didn't know that andd kill the wrong ones....

God there are some sick people on here.

Why on earth would you spear slugs? If you really have to kill them there must be more humane ways to do so.

We collect them up and take them to the woods.

You don't know whether they feel pain or not and it's just cruel

Albgo · 22/07/2022 20:45

So much casual cruelty on this thread. To deliberately kill anything is awful. To derive pleasure from it is a whole other level of horror. You should feel ashamed.

Look at you all self righteous over fu*king flies but quite happy to insult and attempt to make a fellow human feel like crap.

Hypocrite.

We just zap them instead, short, short electrical shock...

Albgo · 22/07/2022 20:48

@DaddyPiglet there is evidence that insects do actually feel pain. And even if they don't, it's still a life. Gleefully sniffing theirs out is disgusting.

If the PP was enjoying a human suffering and dying then yes they’d be a hypocrite but they’re not.

Is everyone on this thread a vegan then?! No sweet little lambs on your Sunday dinner? Nut roast all the way no doubt.

They're shit eating flies ffs. Not sure they require empathy 🤣

If these hypocrites had half as much empathy for their fellow Human as they did for f*cking flying maggots the world would be a nicer place!

What a bunch of weirdo's eh?
