To ask...Truss or Sunak?

It's no surprise that these two are on the final ticket.

I assume Truss will win, which means there'll probably be another leadership election in about a year. She's already announced that she'll 'hit the ground on day one.' The word 'running' would have really helped there.

I think she would be a gift for Labour - Rishi is a far better candidate, despite being an entirely imperfect one.

Whaddyall think?

Idly wondering if there is a cut off point for joining and being allowed to vote as a member of the Conservative party ?

I assume from your handle that you are currently making up part of the body of a land rover?

Labour will never win a GE without Scotland and they will never regain Scotland.

So we are on to the next shade of blue - Truss is the useful idiot, Sunak slick and power hungry. They’ve just about killed off the NHS, I wonder which minority and/or public service will be targeted next.

Knowing how racist many Tory local parties and voters are I’d be very surprised if Sunak got elected - but then Tory voters do as they are told by the tabloid rags, the most useful of idiots.

I know where I’ll be - the picket line.

The SNP have 44 seats in Westminster. Yes they make it harder for Labour to get an outright majority, but not impossible (Blair’s best was a 179 seat majority).

And, of course, a Lab/SNP coalition is entirely possible.

I think Rishi is a gift for Labour. He alienated 3 million freelancers/self employed voters by unfairly excluding them from covid support schemes. Then his flip-flopping with tax reductions and tax rises, the eat out to spread covid scheme, billions lost to bounce back loan fraud, billions lost to PPE fraud, billions lost in a failed track & trace system, and he was Chancellor under whose watch inflation has risen to highest level in 40 years. He was a poor Chancellor, so why think he'd be a competent/popular leader/PM?

Flymetothezoom · 20/07/2022 18:43

Truss definitely, I trust her with women’s rights.

Do you? She’s been largely silent on any issue involving abortion rights (as has Rishi). Penny Mordaunt was far and away the most pro-choice candidate and she’s out.

These are all fair points.

And yet he remains more credible than Truss.

Loics · 20/07/2022 18:34

The press seems to think that at least the majority of those who supported Penny Mordaunt will now vote for Truss, so she'll gain more votes from MPs whose preferred candidate has now been eliminated, while Sunak won't gain any more votes, or at least not enough to beat Truss.

The MPs won't be voting again though so it's irrelevant what they think now.

AliTheMinx · 20/07/2022 20:03

Rishi for me. Truss seems vacuous at best...

Surely, it will be Rishi that wins. His IQ is above 60.

Meh, both are easy pickings for Labour so I don't mind either way. In 2024 we will have a Labour government with the Lib Dems as the official opposition.

Well, a girl can dream anyway 😁

Allywill · 20/07/2022 20:36

It’s a bit like this years mens singles final. I want both of them to lose.

ItisallPooh · 20/07/2022 20:36

I think the most surprising thing about Truss is that she is only 46. That has been a hard paper round. I honestly thought she was much older.

And I find Sunak's voice sounds like he is on the Inbetweeners.

Allywill · 20/07/2022 20:42

Also whatever happens for the first time, the prime minister will be younger than me. I was close with Cameron but still he was older (just).

100% this.

But Truss was a liability as foreign secretary, goodness knows how she'd ever cope as PM - www.reuters.com/world/europe/kremlin-cites-truss-error-evidence-west-doesnt-understand-ukraine-conflict-2022-02-11/

God help us all

PantyMcPantFace · 20/07/2022 20:46

Well we have gone from the full range to.....

Well reckon Truss is Type 6....Fluffy and mushy both seem apt.

Can't work out the best number for Sunak....but Type 4 maybe.

All just shit though

They’re both younger than my son 😱

XingMing · 20/07/2022 21:08

The important question not being asked by the press is "who would you appoint to your Cabinet?" I slightly feel, but not on the basis of any evidence in either direction, that Rishi's Cabinet would be better balanced.

I agree. It wouldn’t have Dorries and Rees Mogg in it for a start.

Thwomp · 20/07/2022 18:40

Truss is absolutely abysmal. Unlikable, unintelligent, unprincipled and ineffectual. It’s hard to think of a less competent politician.

I hope she wins.

Agree with this. She comes across like someone who's inexplicably found themselves in politics and acts like a mental wind-up automaton saying the first thing that comes into her head whenever she's asked a question. I didn't think the UK could possibly look any more like a massive twat on the world stage with Boris Johnson as PM but if Truss gets in, that's likely to put that belief well and truly in the toilet.

Two years of that awful accent ( truss ) my own accent is bad , but her voice grates on me.
If the DM are backing her then she'll probably win it.

ThinWomansBrain · 20/07/2022 21:39

Sorry about the vote thing - thanks WhileMyGuitar, I'll just brace myself for dozens of people getting narky with me for being inept
