To wonder why people get long talon nails?

I'm fascinated by the super long, talon-like false nails. Especially the square shaped and the really pointy ones. I thought it would be a short lived statement trend but it's lasted for years now.

Curious about what people like about them? Why do you think they've been so enduring?

It seems like something people with a lack of imagination and style do to get attention/approval from peers, so they can show off how well-groomed they are as though it means something. Sorry! It's just a matter of taste for me, and they're not to mine.

@XenoBitch
There are other roles in HC than theatre nurse/surgeon etc
My point is not to judge so much, similar on the tattoo hating threads, lots of professionals have them, it's just nasty snobbery.

Yep.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/07/2022 00:08

If it was just a matter of taste for you @Mothapples, you wouldn't be making such ridiculous assumptions.🙄

Mothapples · 20/07/2022 00:09

I also don't like the idea of nail bars with underpaid, often ethnic minority women in this kind of subservient role. I think it's something that's been imported from America that we could really do without.

Tablechairtable · 20/07/2022 00:09

A sales assistant was writing out a reference number on a returns for me. Her fingers with long nails were wrapped so awkwardly it looked painful and I almost couldn't bear to watch. Each to their own but I cope with them digging in.

Mothapples · 20/07/2022 00:13

I don't think they're ridiculous assumptions. Expensive and disabling fashions are a feminist issue . It's that simple thing of asking: do men do this? If not, why not?
Not that men and women have to always be the same, but it's just another ridiculous expectation put on women that we're supposed to have expensive, disabling nails.

milkyaqua · 20/07/2022 00:15

Modern version of foot-binding.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 20/07/2022 00:18

Hmm this is one of those thinly disguised threads inviting others to let rip on people who like longer nails.

If they're not your thing who cares.

I have always had long natural strong nails with biab I assure you I do a lot more daily than the average Joanne and manage fine including wiping my bum.

OnaBegonia · 20/07/2022 00:18

@Mothapples
Hardly different taste when you've said anyone with them is lacking in imagination, attention seeking and vulgar.
You sound very judgemental and small minded, rather lacking in many ways yourself.

XenoBitch · 20/07/2022 00:18

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/07/2022 00:05

Yep.

Tattoos do not obstruct any role whatsoever. Long nails do.

Sparklingbrook · 20/07/2022 00:19

Have a look at The Couple ASMR on YouTube. She has very long nails and uses them to pick whiteheads from her husband’s back. For entertainment 🤢

Quackpot · 20/07/2022 00:24

They're for picking snots out ,🤣🤣🤣

OnaBegonia · 20/07/2022 00:24

@XenoBitch
That's two points that have bypassed you or you are deliberately obtuse.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 20/07/2022 00:25

Actually this thread is aimed at a demographic of women who always had
elaborate and unusually long nails, they're a staple part of their beauty culture.

SirenSays · 20/07/2022 00:29

I have long nails for events, parties... they're just an extra accesory to me. Taking the time to do them myself is lovely relaxing me time.
I don't quite understand the modern footbinding comments. Other than wash up without gloves, which I wouldn't want to do anyway, they don't restrict me in any way.

Changemaname1 · 20/07/2022 00:31

I actually think the not to long ones look great , quite jealous of women with lovely nails

unfortunately with my job I could never 😞

No, I am just thick, and I stare in wonder at people with ridiculous long nails and wonder how they cope with day to day things.
It really is as simple as that.

PaceFalm · 20/07/2022 00:33

Ick. Probable sensory issue but I can’t bear the thought of them. I wince thinking of what they must feel like if they get knocked accidentally. The idea of having anything extra glued directly on to my nail bed makes me want to scream.

Yes, it is.

What's so feminist about slagging women off because they wear their nails longer @Mothapples? They are perfectly capable, if they weren't they'd cut them.🤷‍♀️

milkyaqua · 20/07/2022 00:15

Modern version of foot-binding.

Absolutely. Right up there with high heels. Why would you willingly disable yourself? Also the underside and the thickness of them give me total ick

Moretodo · 20/07/2022 00:40

It confuses me.
Nail beds breathe, completely covering them can't be good for you.
Research shows many nails had infections.
The poorly paid workers with breathing problems.
Negative environmental impact.
Expense.
Unnecessary when the natural nail is far superior and has a part to play in hand function such as grip and mobility.

It's senseless fashion innit I guess, keep us buying unnecessary shit.

N0tfinished · 20/07/2022 00:41

While we're at it, those mad dense lash implants. They must surely impede vision? They look so awful close up in the sunshine especially.

Fizbosshoes · 20/07/2022 00:45

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/07/2022 00:05

Yep.

They would not be practical for my job, but every time I see someone with very long nails (maybe 1cm + beyond the finger) it makes me think of all the questions people are asking about how you would do certain things. And all the long nailed people on here have said they are no oroblem. I guess I'm just nosey - if you could get temporary ones that lasted for a day, I'd probably give them a try out of curiosity still not sure about putting on contact lenses, not sure I'd brave that

toomuchlaundry · 20/07/2022 00:46

So how does someone with such long nails put in and take out contact lenses 😱

I was watching Say Yes to the Dress. The mother of the bride had not cut her nails for eleven years. Some had obviously snapped off but others were about six inches long. Quite revolting and no idea how you do anything as basic as bathing or cooking or getting dressed. They don't grow straight, the long ones were twisted.

Oh yes I saw that episode!! I was fascinated (yes in a gross way). They weren't just long they were several inches long and twisted too. Why would someone do that? 🌹
