Takeaways didn't have to close. They were quite busy but totally bombarded by "I work in x throughout covid, can you give me anything free?" Well.... So were these people! And worse abuse than usual. Want to hear some creative racist/xenophobic insults? Be a not white/non british takeaway worker.... But that's a different rant.

Re the "support" to close during covid. Nowhere near enough so who could stayed open at least part of the time (like restaurants doing takeaway).

Takeaways definitely did not close during covid and any attempts to make the workplace slightly safer were met with customers kicking off and acting like we were doing it to personally spite them. Had one such lovely customer screaming down the phone that it was ridiculous and we were all useless bastards 2 days after a colleague had sadly died after getting covid. Another abusing me because we couldn't offer him a further discount to the one he already had because he worked for the emergency services and was working through covid and I was a c**nt because I couldn't over ride the system to give him what he wanted.

The general public can be truly vile.

@KevinTheKoala have to sadly agree. Lots of places were also proper coerced into giving free stuff to certain workers because otherwise it would go on SM as it did in few cases. Because "they hate us and don't support us working through covid"🙄 Yeah cause the people they are ordering food from are sitting at home on a sofa or something?
