As the title says

Serafinrise, not sure mopeds and bicycles have air conditioning

They still have to pay for petrol. Have you asked one if they preferred not to take the call?

Wondering if the upper class know that the delivery drivers aren’t employed by the restaurant.. or do they not care what the slaves do

I wonder if you know that not all takeaways are delivered by just eat/deliveroo etc?

Some of us prefer to pay the takeaway rather than use a third party platform that eats into the takeaway's profits. When I order a curry the guy who delivers it is the same guy who waits tables in the restaurant, and at the chippy it is one of the brothers who joint own the place.

Immaterialatthispoint · 19/07/2022 15:26

Why the fuck are you assuming we all use deliveroo?! Or just eat!?

tbey don’t even exist really where I live. If I order a delivery takeaway it arrives with one of the lads who works in the local takeaway restaurant. They are definitely employed by the restaurant!

Why are you so angry and aggressive about something so immaterial?

Angelinflipflops · 19/07/2022 16:14

Maybe she's hangry!

tithonia · 19/07/2022 16:16

If you're convinced it's slave-labour or whatever 🙄 then why are you even asking? Just don't order a takeaway. However, it's a bit presumptuous to assume that you know what the people in question think or how they feel about it. Maybe they need the money and will be disappointed if no-one's placing orders.

Oh my lord, this possibly wins the prize for the most ridiculous AIBU of the day. Do what you want for goodness sake. No-one else cares!

Rude

DameHelena · 19/07/2022 16:20

Not a takeaway, but I felt slightly guilty about getting a Waitrose delivery today and offered the guy a cold drink; he politely declined and pointed out that he basically drives around in a refrigerator and so is better off than a lot of people Grin

Manekinek0 · 19/07/2022 16:20

I would be giving a decent tip if I were to order one today.

GoT1904 · 19/07/2022 16:21

I've just deliveroo'd lots of picnic bits from Morrisons so DC and I can have a blanket picnic in the living room Infront of the fan 😂

sunglassesonthetable · 19/07/2022 16:21

I would be giving a decent tip if I were to order one today.

Now you're making sense.

RosesandMoonshine · 19/07/2022 16:23

I am sensibly upper class and make most of my meals from scratch. Most of my food comes from local farms and we wouldn't dream of upsetting the children with lower class takeaways.
However, yesterday we actually did something terribly uncharacteristic and ate cheap packet curry noodles for dinner.
It was just the thing.
Don't be scared ladies, the occasional teeny tiny lapse won't affect our social status one bit!

Nc830 · 19/07/2022 16:25

@RosesandMoonshine be careful your children don’t catch the poor people disease!

@Nc830
Do you worry about the incomes of the delivery drivers or cooks?

moksorineouimoksori · 19/07/2022 16:31

I got worried about ordering delivery on a heat wave as well because I wouldn't want to go out in the heat, but I reason that if they're working they're working and if they're open they're open, the delivery driver will hopefully be in a nice air conditioned car or at least have their windows open, and they'd probably rather have my money than not! Could always do what another poster did and offer a cold drink, but I think they'll probably be absolutely fine!
Wouldn't recommend uber drivers who use bikes to work today though.

So with that logic why wouldn't you order a takeaway, a delivery driver will be paid a fee 🤷‍♂️

pixie5121 · 19/07/2022 16:35

The virtue signalling about this is so weird. You do all realise that zero hour workers make literally no money if they don't work, right? I did zero hour work for years, and an unwanted day off could easily leave me with no money for food or other essentials. I still remember being annoyed about an extra bank holiday because it meant losing an entire day's pay I couldn't afford to lose.

If a delivery rider is choosing to work today, then let them. Give them a big tip if you feel bad about it, but depriving someone of income they need because of a virtue signal is bloody weird.

greatblueheron · 19/07/2022 16:36

A few of our local take aways have closed in this heat.

Minimum wage workers in the kitchens and doing the deliveries taking the brunt of the decisions to stay open. Don't make it hotter for them.

So, no I wouldn't order take away.

Gosh are you starting an argument with yourself? Do f order if you feel uncomfortable ordering.

My Turkish friends, btw, are pouring scorn on the idea that this weather is unbearable , while I wilt. If they want to open their restaurant, in quite sure they know what they’re doing.

sunglassesonthetable · 19/07/2022 16:39

After struggling through Covid. You'll make it much hotter for them when tips and takings are right down!

Not helping at all.

Mustthinkofausername · 19/07/2022 16:39

I ordered Five Guys for the kids and I today for lunch. I just tipped the driver £5. It’s less than a mile from my house but I wasn’t about to go out. I’m guessing if places are open and drivers are out delivering then they probably want the business?

OhmygodDont · 19/07/2022 16:41

I did just get the children a mc Donald’s while I was at Morrisons since it was open. One less dinner to cook.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 19/07/2022 16:42

sunglassesonthetable · 19/07/2022 16:04

Had anyone actually asked a food delivery driver????

That would be the sensible way forward.

I might order a takeaway to get one on my doorstep to interview.

sunglassesonthetable · 19/07/2022 16:44

This hot weather is an OPPORTUNITY for some businesses. And they will see it as that knowing people will not be wanting to cook.

After 2 years of struggle they can make hay while the sun shines.

If they are open they want your orders.

sunglassesonthetable · 19/07/2022 16:45

I might order a takeaway to get one on my doorstep to interview.

Please tip well and report back.

I am totally baffled by the logic on this thread.

sunglassesonthetable · 19/07/2022 16:49

I'm thinking about Indian takeaway now. ....

But I'll probably got and get it tbh. I'm going to ask them though.

Would you have preferred it if I hadn't made this order?

( odds on they'll think I'm nuts )
