We had Burger King from the nearest services yesterday, on the basis they'd have AC and it'd be open anyway Smile

Good thinking!

Wondering if the upper class know that the delivery drivers aren’t employed by the restaurant.. or do they not care what the slaves do

Some are....

Are you just on a wind up?

Puddington · 19/07/2022 15:08

Honestly OP if you feel so strongly about it that you equate the workers to slaves (and I am someone who has had a few very-not-middle-class jobs) then simply don't order one today and wait until it's cooler.

Brefugee · 19/07/2022 15:09

tbh the chaps (i have never had a female delivery driver) from the few places that deliver round here aren't bothered about the heat.
But if they're open, why not order? I'm sure they appreciate the business.

saveforthat · 19/07/2022 15:13

Some delivery drivers are indeed employed by the restaurant. Some not. I always give the driver a big tip so they would miss out on tips if people are not ordering.

TuftyMarmoset · 19/07/2022 15:16

I’m not because I feel bad about making the kitchen staff and delivery drivers suffer in the heat. Just having stuff that doesn’t need cooking instead.

HangOnToYourself · 19/07/2022 15:16

If they are open they have done a risk assessment and decided to go ahead so what's the point it hand wringing over it. They arent opening specifically for your order.

@Immaterialatthispoint
am I being unreasonable to order one… just thinking of delivery drivers and cooks

Pretty sure they want to be paid and businesses want to make money. They’d close if they didn’t.

but voted YABU just because this is an unreasonable use of AIBU

are you drunk?

Picklypickles · 19/07/2022 15:22

Don't bother if you are feeling so guilty about it, have something simple at home like salad or beans on toast!

Oh my lord, this possibly wins the prize for the most ridiculous AIBU of the day. Do what you want for goodness sake. No-one else cares!

This!

Nc830 · 19/07/2022 15:23

@onmobile no I’m in a 500 degree kitchen trying to cook my own dinner

Oh dear god

Snog · 19/07/2022 15:25

I'm in a red zone and didn't order my usual Monday night ubereats due to concern for delivery people.

stuntbubbles · 19/07/2022 15:25

I wouldn’t. It’s too hot. If you want to support the business, order tomorrow night instead when it’s miles cooler; and tip the restaurant and the driver heavily.

Snog · 19/07/2022 15:26

I also made salads as using the cooker heats my house too much

MrsRinaDecker · 19/07/2022 15:26

If places are open, I’d order, because if no one orders they’ve lost out on business and sat in a hot kitchen for nothing! Good shout to give the driver an extra tip though. (And in our area we have some third party delivery people, such as deliveroo etc, and some takeaways if you order direct have their own drivers.)

Immaterialatthispoint · 19/07/2022 15:26

Why the fuck are you assuming we all use deliveroo?! Or just eat!?

tbey don’t even exist really where I live. If I order a delivery takeaway it arrives with one of the lads who works in the local takeaway restaurant. They are definitely employed by the restaurant!

Fuwari · 19/07/2022 15:27

I personally wouldn’t order one for the reason that I wouldn’t work in this heat so don’t expect someone else to, to bring me something non essential. They might appreciate the business but they might also appreciate a quiet shift!

Did you just equate paid employment in a heatwave to slavery?! Fuck me....

Steelesauce · 19/07/2022 15:27

I wanted to deliveroo some pasta salads and bread (the heat has turned my bread moulder quicker then expected) but no where is delivering in my area.

123becauseicouldntthinkofone · 19/07/2022 15:28

I did yesterday...just enjoy

Bubblebubblebah · 19/07/2022 15:28

Little fyi... The equipment is on whether you order or not so... Temperature wise it will not make too much difference. The ones where it would, decided to close.
Fries, grills, ovens etc are on all the time because they take while to heat up.

ifonly4 · 19/07/2022 15:28

The problem is, if we're going to experience high temperatures more often, we can't just close down society. It's awful working in this environment, but we all need to be there for eachother. I totally get people are being considerate, but staff in hospitals, unventilated warehouses, fireman, retail staff, builders - the list goes on, all have to turn out.

I'm off my food today, but for me I'd prefer something cold out of the fridge that takes five mins. Whatever you decide, enjoy.
