To think 7.30 is too early?

Council have gardeners out on stand on mowers, and with strimmers on the grass right underneath peoples windows at 7.30am! Slept with windows open last night because of heat and am not impressed at the sheer level of noise of both machines going off at once at this time. I thought it had to be after 8 (which to me personally is still too early but I don't make the rules) more than anything else it was just a horrible way to wake up.

You’re right OP 8pm is the legal start time but I’m guessing the heat meant they had to start half an hour earlier - that’s life eh.

Cotonsugar · 13/07/2022 21:46

I’m with you on this but probably because I’ve had to listen to a very loud petrol mower every Thursday at 7.30am for the last 17 years as my neighbours who back on to my house have employed a man with a mower for that long. Other neighbours have mentioned it but we don’t confront them because we have to live in the same cul-de-sac and don’t want any bad feelings. Mower man has to wear ear defenders, it’s so loud. Karma - I’m moving shortly and the new owners want to do a lot of building work - hopefully it’s noisy and takes months😂 At least you probably won’t have to listen to it every week 😊

Horrifying that time !!!!and yes no one can CHECK IF they're actually doing all the work !!!!as shirkers comes to mind

Justbefair · 13/07/2022 21:49

Would hardly notice as up and out about then! Close window, put fan on, you can go back to sleep? X

Lovely13 · 13/07/2022 21:56

Bin collection woke me at 6am on Saturday! I just felt sorry for them doing that job so early. So 7.30 seems fine. And #bekind was a thing remember?!

Op you're quite rude. Why does it mean children are 'broken' if they're awake before 8am? My child is on the school bus at 7.40am so up way before 8am and not broken.

I replied with the same energy as the comment I was responding to

Poor you having to wake up at 7.30 on a working week day.

Yeah I thought the same. I'm usually leaving the house for work at that time as are many others.

purplepentagram · 13/07/2022 22:35

try living next to my neighbours. She has her 3 little kids playing out from 6.30 am every morning.singing, Screaming, fighting, crying, blowing whistles, bells, balls, bikes. you name it.

My gardeners turn up at and start at 7:30 every week all seasons. To me it's only once a week I hear their machines going. OP might want to reconsider that it's Covid that's bringing her down and not the gardeners and that on a normal day she might be abit more tolerant !

Quote possibly I think it was more the sheer fright of them simultaneously starting their machines right next to my open bedroom window (houses are on a weird slant so my bedroom window is head height if you're on the path) right next to my head.
Had they started out on the road and moved closer I probably wouldn't have been so annoyed as it would have got gradually louder as they approached. Where they started is a very odd start point. Like eating a cheesecake from the middle out 😂 think it was more annoyance at the fright tbh

YABVVVU. It’s 7.30, not 5.30. They’re doing a job, no matter what any council does people moan about it!

SydneyMamma · 14/07/2022 03:24

Yep, you're being totally unreasonable.

It's a heatwave and working earlier in the cooler morning hours is preferable not to mention safer, especially for those based outside. Even so, it's unreasonable to expect all work to start at 8am or later on a weekday.

MsBombastic555 · 14/07/2022 04:14

Honestly there used to be a woodpigeon around here that needed an ASBO 😂

MsBombastic555 · 14/07/2022 04:33

I would move 🤣 and FWIW you are not being unreasonable.

Barney60 · 14/07/2022 11:23

Building site rules so presume its noise? law is 8am-6pm
Yes i would be annoyed being woken at 7am any day of the week.
But im not naturally a morning person, dont talk to me before 11am, which is why im happy working 1-9 shifts.

nannykatherine · 14/07/2022 18:39

I’ve had builders outside every morning at 7 am for over a year
live on a mews and renovations on two hides opposite
constant noise all day every day

Actually local council bye-laws differ when you can make building noise.

In my area you can make noise from 7.30pm.

I only know that you need to look it up area by area because a friend of mine who works in the building trade has had arguments with neighbours of his customers. In each area, as he's the manager he looks up what hours his team can work and tells them so if neighbours complain he can tell them to go away.

MsBombastic555 · 14/07/2022 21:33

Yes you do!

Felicity666 · 15/07/2022 12:15

Ha haha! We have a choice. Keep our windows shut and let the bedroom get stifling or wear earplugs. Otherwise we’re woken up at first light by half a dozen pigeons that perch on our roof😖
