To think 7.30 is too early?

Council have gardeners out on stand on mowers, and with strimmers on the grass right underneath peoples windows at 7.30am! Slept with windows open last night because of heat and am not impressed at the sheer level of noise of both machines going off at once at this time. I thought it had to be after 8 (which to me personally is still too early but I don't make the rules) more than anything else it was just a horrible way to wake up.

Answered yes before I'd even read the details...

Ifrozethehoumous · 13/07/2022 18:20

I don’t understand why all the noisy garden machines these days can’t have some sort of sound reduction device built in like cars do. Bloody Hell, we’re in the 21st century after all. The racket where I live on Sundays with all the petrol mowers going is hugely annoying.

Insanelysilver · 13/07/2022 18:20

It’s probably just too hot to do it later. I wouldn’t appreciate it regularly, but on these type of occasions then I’d be ok with it X

Evan456 · 13/07/2022 18:24

You’re lucky! At least your council does it

Lem1984 · 13/07/2022 18:26

Yeah the people cutting the grass LOVE to be up early enough after little sleep just to annoy you OP! I barely comment on here but FFS re-read your comments!

I think their physical safety probably trumps your sleep - for people who aren't used to
working in this kind of heat, starting outdoor jobs earlier so they don't have to be working in the hottest part of the day is very sensible.

^this

bellinisurge · 13/07/2022 18:31

7 am is the start time usually permitted. Good for them to go early when it's cool

ArcticRoll2 · 13/07/2022 18:38

As a non regular occurrence I don’t see the problem. Of course if it was daily then I’d agree but not in this case. They probably want to get the job done and finish early to enjoy the weather rather than baking in it !

KarenandFour · 13/07/2022 18:41

Yabu. Too hot to type more

lcl · 13/07/2022 18:44

Anytime from 7 ok esp in heatwave.

SoHereBesMe · 13/07/2022 18:54

There's a pig farm across the road from us.

Once a week, the piggies are collected from it, and neighbouring farms seem to use it as collection point for their piggies too.
They collect them about 4.30am-5am. Usually a Wednesday, but sometimes a random day.
So once a week we get wakened by the squeals of disgruntled pigs 🐖 it's horrible.

I'd take the grass cutters any day over the pigs. Besides, grass cutters is a noise of summer. And apart from anything else, the poor sods would be roasted doing that work later in the day given the heat I hear England are getting at the minute.

Runnerduck34 · 13/07/2022 19:02

Its a bit early and if I was hoping for a lie in I wouldn't be impressed but as a one off I wouldn't mind.

tracylamont13 · 13/07/2022 19:21

As a gardener I’d say 7.30 is fine. Not breaking any laws and very sensible in the heat.

If my workplace was 32 degrees I'd go home and I'm not a manual labourer

There are rules (H&S) about temperatures inside workplaces.

Grass cutting is not one of them.

Silly comparison.

There's no an upper limit and the point is 32 degrees is too hot even if you're sitting still. If you're doing physical work it could make you quite unwell.

CountryMouse22 · 13/07/2022 19:34

We've lived in our road for 11 years and the council have never cut the grass verge in living memory. Our neighbour does it!

angela99999 · 13/07/2022 19:50

Our council workers often start before 7am, even when it isn't hot.

7.30 is a lie-in for most mothers of young children@

Jellicoe · 13/07/2022 20:07

I don't think they want to enjoy it - they just want to avoid the heat. It really can't be pleasant at all. It's not an everyday occurrence so live and let live OP

Jellicoe · 13/07/2022 20:10

My gardeners turn up at and start at 7:30 every week all seasons. To me it's only once a week I hear their machines going. OP might want to reconsider that it's Covid that's bringing her down and not the gardeners and that on a normal day she might be abit more tolerant !

Londoncallingme · 13/07/2022 20:18

I’d think it was too early - I wake naturally at around 8am. This would annoy me too.

TheBigFatMermaid · 13/07/2022 20:19

I am really NOT a morning person but I wouldn't mind this.

janestheone · 13/07/2022 20:21

I’d be more concerned that they are mowing and strimming at all. Lots of enlightened councils have stopped doing this and are letting wildflowers grow

12cats · 13/07/2022 20:23

Most people are up and having to work by then

Gingernan · 13/07/2022 20:33

You really don't want anyone out working like that in a hotter part of the day,it would be very dangerous. Makes sense to be adaptable. I'm at work at 5am,it's the most pleasant part of the day at the moment.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 13/07/2022 20:51

12cats · 13/07/2022 20:23

Most people are up and having to work by then

LOL, no they're not. Most people are NOT at work by 7.30am! I'm not, and neither is most of my street, my family, or my friends. Sure, some people are, but not 'most.' Indeed most people I know, are either still in bed or just having breakfast at 7.30am. They are not at work!.

Suja1 · 13/07/2022 21:17

Birds only awake at 4.30am? Magpies here are squawking for much of the night. Maybe they're dreaming.
