To think 7.30 is too early?

Council have gardeners out on stand on mowers, and with strimmers on the grass right underneath peoples windows at 7.30am! Slept with windows open last night because of heat and am not impressed at the sheer level of noise of both machines going off at once at this time. I thought it had to be after 8 (which to me personally is still too early but I don't make the rules) more than anything else it was just a horrible way to wake up.

So you wouldn't normally be awake or up and about by 8 either?
It's absolutely horrifically warm at the moment, it must be even worse for those out there doing manual tasks in this heat with no shade.

girlmom21 · 12/07/2022 08:35

The alternative is them being out in blazing 30 degree heat later in the day, then you'll moan when they all quit because of poor working conditions and the neighbourhood is overgrown

Fireflygal · 12/07/2022 08:36

Given the heat its likely they will be told to start early. Surely it's a minor interruption to get the job done!

7:30am is NOT an early start

Spanielsarepainless · 12/07/2022 08:37

It's so hot they need to get it done before things really warm up. Our binmen were here shortly after 6 this morning, but I was already up.

KangarooKenny · 12/07/2022 08:37

7am onwards on a working day is fine

Helldiddleydingdongcrap · 12/07/2022 08:39

I think anything after 0700 is fair game on a weekday, especially in this heat.

FourChimneys · 12/07/2022 08:39

Our bin lorry crews started at 6.00 am so they can get done before it's too hot. Eminently sensible imo.

KatherineJaneway · 12/07/2022 08:39

Considering how hot it will be today, I would have no issue with 7:30am. I have two cats so sleeping in until 730am is a thing of the past 😂

BogRollBOGOF · 12/07/2022 08:39

One of our bin collections each fortnight starts at 6:30 and has clanged laps around us and gone by 6:50. It's just one of those things. My only gripe is that it's a rude awakening when I forgot that bin and have a couple of minutes to fly out of the house in my pjs dragging out my bin in the nick of time.

By 7:30, 80% of the population will be up or out and about. Night shift workers will be inconvenienced at any time anyway.

The job needs doing and it needs doing safely.

Tulipomania · 12/07/2022 08:40

Stop complaining.

bananaboats · 12/07/2022 08:40

I think its fine for a week day, our bins are collected earlier than that every week & yes it can be annoying if your having a lie in but such is life!

Nonfunctioningpancreas · 12/07/2022 08:41

I'm up at 5am 7 days a week but it wouldn't bother me if I did try to have a lie in, especially at the moment with the temperature barely dropping through the night, they were out the front of ours the same time this morning, they have a rota of when certain areas need done so it isn't "random" at all and seen as they have a large area to cover as well as other jobs you have to be understanding that they are only doing their job, couldn't imagine doing their job in this weather

CuppaTeaAndSammich · 12/07/2022 08:41

YABU, 7.30 really isn't early and 8am definitely isn't, especially on a weekday. I'd expect school children and day shift works to be up way before then anyway. You're lucky to get to lay in until that late! Only people I can think it would be disruptful to is nightshift workers like my DP

DanielRicciardosSmile · 12/07/2022 08:41

I'm going out on a limb here, and guessing you don't do a physical job outdoors, OP.

RomeoMcFlourish · 12/07/2022 08:41

I could not begrudge the council workers starting early if it meant that they didn’t have to work in the midday heat. Totally reasonable adjustment.

balalake · 12/07/2022 08:41

I am not sure the strimming etc should be carried out with this lack of rain and above average temperatures. It's probably carried out to a schedule which may be inflexible.

For those things which should happen regardless of temperature, OK with 7.30.

IcedOatLatte · 12/07/2022 08:42

chilledbubble · 12/07/2022 08:22

Nope, same as the refuse collectors, in this heat I think its a perfectly reasonable adjustment to their working hours. I'd rather that than have them have to work in the hottest part of the day and get ill.

My bin men always come before 7.30, I didn't know that they weren't supposed to start until 8. I assume I must be near the start of the route as sometimes it's nearer 7. It doesn't bother me whatever the weather is as I'm always up before then but we're all different. 7.30 is hardly the middle of the night so I don't think it's unreasonable for them to be going at that time for the comfort of the workers

ladydoris · 12/07/2022 08:42

Have mercy on the guys, It's not random work, they clean up after themselves, so it's intermittent. No it's not early. All my neighbours and hubby are out to work by that time. Nobody wants the heat.

Superdoopas · 12/07/2022 08:43

Thinking of the wellbeing òf workmen id say iabu .

FigTreeInEurope · 12/07/2022 08:43

I live in rural Italy, someone is strimming, chainsawing or running a pump at 6am every single day. It's too hot later on. The difference is that between 11am, and 3pm, everyone is having a nap and the world is quiet.

listsandbudgets · 12/07/2022 08:43

7.30 on a week day is fine, especially as it will be so hot later. That said, we leave the house at 7.20 drop children at early breakfast cub and we are at work by 8.

I'd certainly prefer them out in the relatively morning at the moment

loudbatperson · 12/07/2022 08:44

pogostickplastique · 12/07/2022 08:01

I googled it and apparently the time to carry out 'unavoidable work' is 8am - 7pm on weekdays. They obviously started much earlier than 7.30 as our end of the street is normally nearer the end of their 'route'

They only cut it at random intervals when they feel like it anyway so no one would and noticed if they'd not bothered because of the heat rather than start so early.

It won't be random intervals, it will be when that patch reaches the top of the list of priority, based on need and available resources.

On a weekday 7am is a pretty standard time for most people to be up.

user1471457354 · 12/07/2022 08:46

I don't think it's too early on a weekday.

In my council area our bins are collected anytime from 7am every Sunday!

Herecomestreble1 · 12/07/2022 08:47

This week especially, I'm on the side of whatever you need to do to make your job comfortable and safe, you do. This heat is going to cripple a lot of outdoor workers and if they want to start early, then more power to them.

listsandbudgets · 12/07/2022 08:47

^relatively cool ^
