Simply because he is super rich and his wife evaded tax while we all struggle with the cost of living? How can they let him stand?

This is not a racist thread btw.

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 10/07/2022 10:31

😂😂
Come back Boris's campaign has already begun.

sst1234 · 10/07/2022 10:32

Let’s not forget to what an incompetent chancellor he has been. He only got the job because Javid resigned from the job on principle. Rishi then turned on the taps of money printing rather than opposing that healthy people be kept at home and the economy shut down. When the chickens came home to roost with runaway inflation, his answer was to increase taxes.

People who see his personal wealth rather than his competence really should pay attention to the right stuff. Him being poor doesn’t make you rich. Him being competent just might.

Ncwinc · 10/07/2022 10:32

Ah, ‘reducing your tax burden’ it is!

As one of those left-wingers I do think that it’s morally questionable. For the Conservatives though? That’s totally in line with their ideology. It shouldn’t be any kind of barrier for him.

Where was this level of interest in David Cameron’s financial arrangements? Or George Osborne’s?

plugee · 10/07/2022 10:34

Rishi then turned on the taps of money printing rather than opposing that healthy people be kept at home and the economy shut down.

What was the alternative though since we went with lockdown? Plus we've been printing money since the 08 crisis which is one reason we are in this mess.

SnowyLamb · 10/07/2022 10:36

I don't think he'll win the leadership contest. The party will understand the tax thing would be a huge disadvantage at the GE

Topgub · 10/07/2022 10:38

Meh.

They're all as bad as each other.

The problem isn't who is pm, the problem is that people vote for them at all

WotsitsQuavers · 10/07/2022 10:40

Why have a green card while serving as an MP and minister? How loyal is he in supporting the interests of UK and its people.

Plus full of PR pictures and presenting himself as a tall person. Just why?

bluebell34567 · 10/07/2022 10:40

jeremy hunt doesnt look bad. or javid.

ThePumpkinPatch · 10/07/2022 10:41

I for one will be very pleased if he gets in. I'm no Tory voter (nor will I ever be) but he's the best of a bad bunch IMHO. At least him being wealthy already will give him no justification for using government money to redecorate No.10!

His Household Support Fund has helped me so much I cannot even describe it. I genuinely don't know what we'd have done without it - and my circumstances are not my own doing before I get that thrown at me.
Yes, more help could've certainly been given. However I'm just grateful for what we've had.

gbliu87767 · 10/07/2022 10:42

Agreed but also because in any other country we would be talking about the continuation of oligarch rule.

The wife tax thing is not illegal but a bit insulting to the British people esp. from a PM. I appreciate that the reason for her claiming non dom is not actually due to the tax (it's peanuts for them) but because of inheritance rules. If she is a resident in the UK - she would be liable to 45% or whatever the highest tax is once she inherits but it's 0% in India. And lets be honest seeing as she's from one of if not the wealthiest families in India - she isnt about to do that (or her family letting her do that).

bluebell34567 · 10/07/2022 10:42

rishi no. gove is crazy (i read somewhere he was/is very intelligent)

Inflation is caused by a multitude of actions.
Global economies being closed for nigh on 2 yrs, reopening, 2 yrs demand into 6 months=Bottlenecks.
The drive globally for net-zero emissions has begun.
Rishi loves the ESG-EFT push, he's a globalist, work, tax, and damn/discard those that cannot.
The only saving grace at the moment is, that 80 yrs ago this push for consumption and scrabble for resources would've resulted in a global war.
The transition out of this mess isn't going to be pretty for some, governments are in turmoil atm.
Come back, Boris.
People have been foolish, but it serves them right.

true.

sst1234 · 10/07/2022 10:45

Rishi would be on the first plane to California if he lost this leadership election. That‘a how committed he is. He only hung on after receiving the Covid fine because he knew the Boris wouldn’t see out the full term and he could have a crack at his lifelong ambition.

CredibilityProblem · 10/07/2022 10:46

The tax status is one thing, but if your wife and mother of your children declared that her permanent eventual home is another country then I think that should disbar you from being PM. Ministers are one thing, but the PM, wherever they were born, should have a long-term commitment to the UK.

Also pretty Hmm about his green card (now disclaimed) which was a declaration of a firm desire to make his permanent home in a third country.

plugee · 10/07/2022 10:46

What's an example of someone who is committed?

I think the fact he's so rich & doesn't need the scrutiny or stress but wants the job shows he's pretty committed. He's clearly ambitious & probably wants a legacy of some sort.

or greed.

plugee · 10/07/2022 10:49

what makes you think he's greedy or anymore greedy than the next person?

bluebell34567 · 10/07/2022 10:40

jeremy hunt doesnt look bad. or javid.

Jeremy Hun doesn’t look bad….if he disappears. A complete chancer with 0 policies and 0 principles. Who advocates for stronger Covid restrictions despite seeing the damage done by the policy. All so that he can grandstand.

gbliu87767 · 10/07/2022 10:49

@sst1234 yep, Rishi is a globalist i.e. money rules and in the context of the current global context, the US. If he gets in I wonder whether there will be push for a different foreign policy e.g. the UK agreeing to the trade deal with India in exchange for the visas or say a change in policy vis-à-vis Russia or at least continuing to turn a blind eye as India keeps on buying Russia's oil at rock bottom prices.

CheeseandBeetrootSandwiches · 10/07/2022 10:50

None of them give a fig about the proletariat, all they care about is power and money. This country will be buggered in any case.

Ncwinc · 10/07/2022 10:50

Why have a green card while serving as an MP and minister? How loyal is he in supporting the interests of UK and its people.’

So you must have been terribly disappointed to find out that Boris Johnson held US citizenship until 2017. So that was while he was:

MP for Henley June 2001 - June 2008
Mayor of London May 2008 - May 2016
MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip May 2015 -
Foreign Secretary - July 2016 - July 2018 (renounced citizenship during this period)

plugee · 10/07/2022 10:49

some people are more greedy than others. they want more and more.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 10/07/2022 10:51

They are all super rich and evade anything they can / put stuff on expenses

There's a huge difference between tax evasion and tax avoidance.

Tax evasion is illegal, tax avoidance isn't, and is what most accountants earn their living doing for other people.
Everyone avoids paying tax if they can.
