How much would you expect to pay for this cake?

Picture attached. This is the exact cake from the cake shop I went into today. It is 6 inches and serves 8-10 people.

I just want to know if my expectations are way off as I was extremely shocked at the price.

I paid £45 for a cake to serve 6. Was taller than yours though but not as wide.

I'd say £45 up for this one

£30? Which would have been my absolute upper limit. It's nothing very special to look at, and I presume just a bog-standard sponge inside?

Saying that though... I know cakes can get astronomically expensive. A friend of mine INSISTS on getting a custom cake for her kids birthdays, and I know there's very little change from £100.

£70 ish…I don’t know if you had it made to order or just bought it off the shelf but bespoke is always an extra £30. I live in Ireland quite a lot of the time and it’s one of the only things I’ve found to be cheaper. My daughters cake last month was €40.

It's just a cake with biscuits on top. £20?

Dillydollydingdong · 09/07/2022 11:29

You weren't buying macarons though, were you?

Don’t say that!! Aldi is sacrosanct on MN and you’ll likely be thrown off the boards for uttering a word of negativity.

Shit! 😮

I didn’t know that!

In that case, I’d be absolutely honored to get a cake decorated with Aldi macarons.

Is anyone else really craving chocolate gateaux and macarons?

Itisasecret · 09/07/2022 12:10

£40

It depends if it was made to order or just of the shelf £30.00 / £40.00 more if made to order.

Sainsburys sell this exact Patisserie Valerie gateau for £28.95. I know because I bought it a few days ago. It’s not very big.

Barbarolo · 09/07/2022 17:42

£25. Not a penny more.
