Am I naive to think Boris PM knows something we don’t know?

Exactly that! The man is being shamed, people are resigning left right and centre (no pun intended). Am I thinking Boris out of possible concern for the country knows something we don’t know and wonders if he is actually the best of a bad bunch?

or is he so egotistical, so consumed by his own worth that he actually hasn’t got a clue!

I’m trying to work out why he’s clinging on for dear life!

This is real car crash stuff. He might be embarrassed that he's held on when he looks back on it.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/07/2022 22:19

they still have to live with the reality of having Boris Johnson as their dad

No worries, Johnson will forget soon enough

You think Johnson’s capable of embarrassment?

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2022 22:20

Some people admire his resolve.
It takes some balls really, going it alone with only Nadine Dorries for company.
It's a shame it's the country that's tanking with him though. That's the sad part.

The Brexit scenario has nothing to do with Boris.

What the delayers didn't realize at the he time is, covid was lying in wait. Double whammy covid economic shut down, change in market partners.
Well done remainders, bloody idiots.

Can someone fluent in leaver bullshit translate this for me?

I think they are claiming that if Brexit had been completed in e.g. 2017, we'd have got through all the worst effects before Covid. Rather than Brexit and Covid hitting at the same time.

I'm not sure how this squares with the various predictions (including from Rees Mogg) saying that it would take a decade or more to work through the negative effects and deliver the benfits of Brexit.

Ah. Well Northern Ireland still isn’t resolved despite them signing an oven ready deal so yeah, good ol leaver bullshit.

Bunnyfuller · 06/07/2022 22:40

He’s just an arrogant twat. Nothing more interesting

I'm tempted to go round to the Cummings residence. I bet there's a hell of a party going on there right now.

Do you think he's singing along to 'the winner takes it all....'?
😀

Yes they are.
The vote was also to leave, then we had yrs of subversion.
Swiss cheese effect.
If anyone thinks with Boris gone the economy will bounce back you're deluded.

You're right - it won't "bounce back". All we can do now is hope we get someone in post who can slow and eventually halt and turn it round.

Johnson is responsible for the downhill rush to chaos, and if he stays it will get even faster.

NOTHING will embarrass him.

He isn't allowed to quit. The billionaires lining his pockets and influencing big government decisions wont allow it.

He will literally stay until he's forced to legally, or on the off chance he drops dead, whatever or whomever the cause.

Fushiadreams · 06/07/2022 23:03

To be honest, I’m starting to think he might pull through this. Especially with taking gove out.

I hate the man but your last statement is utter tosh and you clearly have zero understanding of economics.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/07/2022 23:05

At least we dodged all that chaos with Ed Miliband that David Cameron warned us about.

That'd be funny if it wasn't so deeply depressing....

Rookiemistake · 06/07/2022 23:08

I think he must know something too but that he is trying to protect himself not the country. I just find it bizarre that he's clinging on.

Well, yes. He will if he doesn't leave.

If he diesnt quit then they need a vote of no confidence, which they can't do again for a long time without changing conservative party rules. Which isn't likely to happen.

If he doesn't quit then he will continue on as PM. He'll be leading a party of MPs who mostly want him gone, but they'll get on with their jobs for their constituents. He'll fill the cabinet with those loyal or at least those who wont speak against him in public.

It will be a government full of in fighting and distraction and the public will get exhausted of it and become ambivalent until we have a general election but a lot can happen before that.

It's just that most politicians wouldn't want to lead under those circumstances so they resign. Johnson went resign so he will get through it and continue on, however much it causes his party and then parliament to become a dumpster fire.

LizzieW1969 · 06/07/2022 23:20

No, there is an election to the 1922 Committee on Monday next week and it’s expected that there will be a change to the rules on votes of no confidence in the PM. So there will be another vote, which he’s widely expected to lose.

The question is, will he accept it if Tory MPs do vote him out?

Boxowine · 07/07/2022 01:11

I just want to know if Theresa Mays has taken a walk in the woods with Hilary Clinton yet.

kathleen567 · 07/07/2022 02:28

Do you think it could be that China is threatening to invade Taiwan ?

Benjispruce4 · 07/07/2022 06:49

I knew he was arrogant but this is off the scale! Read the room Boris!

idonthavetimeorhis · 07/07/2022 07:22

Boris cares about Boris, and only about Boris. Statements in Riki Sunak's resignation letter suggest Johnson was going to arrange some tax cutting sweeties, that could escalate this country's economic problems, to detract the public from the fact that he had lied again. His only aim is to remain Prime Minister at whatever cost.

He is staying because, even if he has to be dragged out of Number 10, the drama will be good publicity for him in whatever he plans to do next. Despite the fact that the country now has no effective government, he is thinking only of himself.

In answer to the original question, yes Boris does know something that he has not previously disclosed. He knows that this country is in an unprecedented economical and political mess made worse by his incompetence, and the incompetence of this nation to get rid of him a lot sooner. Soon the lies about Boris: the clever buffoon, the invincible vaccinator the strong man for Ukraine or the one who got Brexit sorted will all tumble down, and the nation will realise that it has been misled for years.

Although I am glad he is going, as someone who is waiting for medical treatment, and who is struggling to access services for my sons, this wholesale political and economic mess is something that we only make a bad situation worse.
